Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.
But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:
"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.
As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...
Wonderful post, caww. The Holy Spirit is working through you. Of that, I have no doubt.
1 Corinthians 11:34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
Believe me when I say that churches do not spend a dime burying people. We, family members, do that Some of my relatives/friends/ancestors are buried at church cemeteries. The ones my family associates with were given the land for both the church and cemetery. I have seen records of some of these churches—20 in attendance and less than $20 in collection which may cover the bills the churches pay each month.
Those people who pay all that money could be giving it to lead the lost to Jesus instead of spending thousands on rocks, caskets, etc.
Wrap them in a sheet, dig a hole, and there you are. The $50 dollar funeral.
Well there is some Rigor going on there.
Rigor mortis (Latin: rigor "stiffness", mortis "of death") is one of the recognizable signs of death, [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigor_mortis]
It's entirely possible the practice was taken from the occult and Babylonian paganism as much of Catholicism is.
That land may have sold for $25, and how do we know they did not donate money to worthy causes, but, back then, neighbor helped neighbor. I do not question the motives from the mid 1800’s. Times were sure different back then. In the county I grew up in, communities may have had 50 people, their own little school for all grades and small churches. It was not until the car came into use that people went to larger churches. Larger churches may have had 50 people attending but they still did not have much money. My parents, born in 1901/904 attended schools with 8 grades. If they attended high school they had to board with someone in town. Money was scarce back then. I have driven by one of those small churches my family went to. I could not get over how very tiny it really was. I remembered it very differently. Just like the house my late sister lived in. As a kid, I thought it was huge but I went by there a few years ago and it was really small. My perspective was what changed not the buildings..
It’s entirely possible there’s no basis for claiming a Babylonian source for Roman Christianity.
We’ve gone through this before.
Pascha is the Italian, French, Spanish word for Easter. It doesn’t have to do with Astarte, Isis, etc.
It has to do with Passover and the events leading up to and including Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
By the way, isn’t there a book of ROMANS in the bible? They were on 7 hills, then, just as now. What in the world was Paul thinking....building up the whore of Babylon? /sarc
The price of land is pretty much steady throughout American history. That’s why raw land is still a decent investment. So, they spent an awful lot of hard, back-breaking labor to come up with 25 bucks.
And those stones weren’t cheap then either.
My, my, my! Posting scripture is now “smugness, hubris, and condescension”? You may want to refresh your study on what Christ said to Pharisees.
I agree.
Luke 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
How do you do it in your church?
There is no required funeral rite in Methodism, so each family participates in the design of any funeral service, and there is no denominational involvement at all in the burial arrangements. Some do go very simple and leave quite a bit for the church. Others go elaborate, but most are a middle ground. We still use headstones in this area. I’d have thought the cemetery would have insisted on ground level plaques by now to cut grounds-keeping costs.
I tend to be skeptical toward anything elaborate and almost everything opulent.
I can remember selling a bushel of beans, peas, etc for $5. I even picked cotton one summer and that was enough. I was glad my uncle said that one year was more than enough experience. There is a lot of cotton in a bale. I treasure my memories of growing up on a farm. All of my older relatives are gone except for two aunts. Even my cousins are gone. It is hard being the older generation. I have a cousin who is about 85 and my brother is 80. No one had money when all of us were growing up but we had things money could not buy-—love, support, memories, I always wondered about my mom talking about her childhood memories. Now, at 70, I understand. They are our good ole days and doggone it, I miss them!

You haven't seen the posts from caww of how the Babylonian pagan symbols have been incorporated into the Catholic Church? You haven't seen where I posted the Catholic Churches own admission that in fact they have incorporated paganism?
“I know I have eternal life - right now. Do you?”
Presumption, it’s not good for the soul.
I already have my tombstone. I got it when I bought ones for my daughter who died in 04 and my husband in 06. I designed it myself. Only the dod needs to be added. I love to read so I have books on mine, rods/reels/bass and golf clubs on my husband’s and a cross and clarinet on my daughter’s.
Considering the number of threads we see posted about Catholicism when clicking on the Religion Forum, many of which are caucus with the caucus designation enforced by the mods, I hardly think FR is *purging Catholics from its ranks*.
I miss them, too, MamaB.
I was thinking about my grandpa yesterday, about how hard he worked to farm that side of a mountain farm in North Carolina. When I got older, I helped skid timber out of those mountains to take it to sell. A team of horses and chains and a walk down the hill after cutting those things down with a two man saw. It was hot hard work. And it didn’t really pay that much.
He’s buried on that mountain in a set-aside that the families living in that vicinity established as a cemetery. And he does have a modest stone. Precious memories how they linger.
If you are not comfortable with this type of debate then IGNORE "open" RF threads altogether and instead read and post to RF threads labeled "caucus" "ecumenical" "prayer" or "devotional."

All spurious.
We include everything from CDs, to DVDs, to fads in our worship settings today. If a preacher pulls a sermon illustration from a book does that mean he endorses the book? Does it mean he rejects it?
