There is no required funeral rite in Methodism, so each family participates in the design of any funeral service, and there is no denominational involvement at all in the burial arrangements. Some do go very simple and leave quite a bit for the church. Others go elaborate, but most are a middle ground. We still use headstones in this area. I’d have thought the cemetery would have insisted on ground level plaques by now to cut grounds-keeping costs.
I tend to be skeptical toward anything elaborate and almost everything opulent.
I already have my tombstone. I got it when I bought ones for my daughter who died in 04 and my husband in 06. I designed it myself. Only the dod needs to be added. I love to read so I have books on mine, rods/reels/bass and golf clubs on my husband’s and a cross and clarinet on my daughter’s.
