In a Monday letter to a Mexico City Vatican conference, Pope Francis wrote that the tens of thousands of Central American children illegally crossing into the United States should be “welcomed and protected.”
Just days after President Obama visited Texas and pledged a solution to the US border crisis, the Pope said migrant children’s human rights are being violated.
“Many people forced to emigrate suffer, and often, die tragically,” he said. “Many of their rights are violated. They are obliged to separate from their families and, unfortunately, continue to be the subject of racist and xenophobic attitudes.” The Pope also advocated that nations advocate development in the Central American countries people are fleeing....

I don’t see where he said “sometimes.” If you want to be precise then be precise.
I agree with the Pope. We should welcome them. And then send them home. Wouldn’t want to be rude after all.

But I hear ya. Truth to tell, my Bishop said this same thing a couple of years ago, and I wrote a letter to the Diocesan paper calling it an unnecessary negative stereotype, and letting him know that it tended to close off serious discussion of how to humanely, and efficiently, return people to their full human dignity in their native lands, which they have sometimes been unjustly forced out of by extreme need, and even violence.
The Diocesan paper did not print it, and the Diocesan P&J Director was quite irritated at me. And no word from the Bishop.
So I know what's bugging you. But I have since learned that you brush off stuff like that, and go straight to "Come, let us reason together."
Is it not cruel and unjust that people are flooding out of their homelands, and creating chaos in other people's homelands? We're not going to shoot Mamacita and her boys in the water. But isn't there an upstream solution to this problem, to begin with?
Returning them to their esteemed homeland with a bag of USDA surplus food and instruction of how to be a legal immigrant, is (in short) not a bad idea.
What is bugging me is that a highly renowned leader of opinion in the world has just told the U.S. to welcome foreign invaders. With or without his comments on racism and xenophobia I find that offensive.
They expect -- they've been told--- that they'll also get "permiso," but in this they are victims of an exploitative Hemispheric fraud which is lying to them and using them as a human battering ram.
Giving "permiso" is not a part of "welcome."
It should be "Welcome to processing. You have been cruelly deceived, but we honor your citizenship. Since all of you are legal citizens of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, you will be safely returned there as quick as we can get you ID'd and medically screened. The costs of this will be deducted from our foreign aid program. Have a pan dulce."

I’d respect the Pope if he practiced what he preaches...don’t be a hypocrite.
Basically, if you don't welcome these people, you are a racist and xenophobe. After all, if you weren't a racist and xenophobe, you wouldn't mind having them. All of them.
Pope Francis, go and keep thy peace. Nobody cares about your inane blathering.
In other words, we should have open borders. Anyone (including the Pope) who advocates for open borders should leave their door open wide so anyone who wants to come in, take their stuff, sleep in their bed, or eat their food can do so. If these pro-open-borders people do not do this, then they are hypocrites.
I have followed the events on the Island of Lampedusa. You will likely know of this. How lucky some countries are with their geographical location. The would be "asylum seekers" are put on this island and there are fences to hold them in. So angered are some of those so awaiting a decision, they have broken fences and rioted. The, no doubt harmless and innocent islanders, have had their lives changed. Women dare not walk alone after dark. Houses have been entered.
Still, the very fact of being stuck in a compound probably reduces the numbers. Those who would come with expectations of immediate good living- for free.
The Italians are certainly nobody's fools in this matter.
Send them all to live in the Vatican, I am sure they will all well cared-for
Now we have out answer. Put them all on a plane and drop them all off at Vatican City. The pope can’t turn them away, and he must provide for them all. Problem solved.
My Idea too. I’ll bet you would find out what a Hypocrite the pope is if we tried it.
My suggestion too. What the Pope says is laughable, and the Vatican would never allow it in reality. If any country attempted to do the things the Pope advocates it would be the very basketcase "immigrants" flee from. Just look at the country he came from (Argentina) - a populist left, endlessly unstable nation that defaults on debt every decade or so because they listen to people like the Pope who whines and cries every time any attempt is made to cut social welfare programs.
I do believe the Pope means well. I also think he seems humble and doesn't personally need or want extravagance, but there are lots of well meaning leftists in the world and their ideas, policies and worldview are incredibly destructive and always lead to ruin. The world would be much better off if this Pope stayed away from politics, economic issues, any discussion of immigration, etc.
Corporal Works of Mercy
Feed the hungry
Give drink to the thirsty
Shelter the homeless
Clothe the naked
Care for the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead
The Scriptural basis for the corporal works of mercy is the parable in the Gospel of Matthew, in which Jesus teaches his disciples about God’s criteria for the Last Judgment (cf.Mt25:35-42).
Pope needs to serve Jesus, not mammon. Don’t care what he thinks of Cesares business...Seems the church has enough problems to deal without butting into governments..The Vatican is quite large, let him take them or he can shut him mouth. I didn’t vote for him...
