A new biography is raising questions about the life and relationships of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, an anti-Nazi dissident whose theological writings remain widely influential among Christians.
Both left-leaning and right-leaning Christians herald the life and writings of Bonhoeffer, who was hanged for his involvement in the unsuccessful plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944. Bonhoeffer was engaged to a woman at the time of his execution, observing that he had lived a full life even though he would die a virgin.
The new biography, Strange Glory: A Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, from University of Virginia religious studies professor Charles Marsh, implies that Bonhoeffer may have had a same-sex attraction to his student, friend and later biographer Eberhard Bethge.
There will be blood among American evangelicals over Mr. Marshs claim, Christian Wiman, who teaches at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, wrote in a review for The Wall Street Journal. But theres been no bloodbath yet, at least considering a few initial reviews.
Marsh makes a convincing case that Bonhoeffer harbored feelings for Bethge that extended beyond friendship, writes Timothy Larsen, a professor of Christian thought at evangelical Wheaton College, in a book review for Christianity Today. Those feelings were unrequited, and Bonhoeffer probably did not consciously acknowledge them. Still, Marsh notes, he was possessive and smothering in his attention.

I hate it when the liberals make out everyone in the past to have been gay. In recent years this was done with Alexander Hamilton and Abraham Lincoln too.
Co-opt the dead.
They can’t confirm or deny...
Whoops. Progressives/Liberal are supposed to do it to Conservatives and Christians, not other progs/libs.
Why not take the opportunity to push the gay agenda even further?
Revelation 14
The Lamb and the 144,000 on Mount Zion
14 Then I looked, and behold, the Lamb was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one could learn the song except the one hundred and forty-four thousand who had been purchased from the earth. 4 These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb. 5 And no lie was found in their mouth; they are blameless.

Coming soon to your local Family or Lifeway Christian Bookstore: "secret homosexual" biographies.
Strange how all the great men of the past become gay upon their death. This is nothing but rank speculation and fantasy of the worst sort.
Ps 133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
The basis for Bonhoeffer’s book “Life Together”
But the lefties must take all that is good and attempt to sexualize and pervert it to fit their own ends.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a brave man of principle. A good man. He worked diligently to make sure that the world would know that there was a German church that was not twisted and polluted by the Nazi vermin as so many were in that era. That is what should be remembered about him. God forbid that we should ever get to the point where we burn books in our country, but if we do we should start with this vile, and I do mean vile, professor’s vile book.
The gathering storm that is the homosexual agenda has many tentacles. Notably the pederasts, and it now comes to this.
Just curious. I wonder if there are any passages in “Dreams from My Father” or the “Audacity of Hope” that could be interpreted and construed to be latently or blatantly HOMOSEXUAL in nature.
I think that's about all we need to know.
Those feelings were unrequited, and Bonhoeffer probably did not consciously acknowledge them.
Right, he was gay and just didn’t know it.
See, everyone is gay, just out gays are more
aware of their gayness...../s
If he said he would die a virgin, then he could not possibly be “gay,” homosexual or a fag, since he obviously did not engage in homosexual activities. This coupled with the fact that he was engaged to a woman, which is what having a fiancée means, is proof of that.
The homo-revisionists will go back into the past to rewrite everything gay. So historical, Bible believing, Christian men who were not known to fornicate, rape, or carouse with loose women are now to be considered, “gay.”
Oh, I get it.
Maybe his virginity allowed his genius.
[ The homo-revisionists will go back into the past to rewrite everything gay. So historical, Bible believing, Christian men who were not known to fornicate, rape, or carouse with loose women are now to be considered, gay. ]
So if one is not a lustful Bill Clintoon like animal they are gay....
That is an artifact of the feminist movement that has carved out an exception for gay males and the only non-sexually-violent males.
Therefore any chivalrous male from history who is dead automatically gets labeled as gay by the feminist cartel.
Robert De Niro just came out with a new book about his father and mentions he thought his father was homosexual. Of course this is the headline to any review of the book. Saw an interview he did about the book with Katie Couric and she mentioned it to him. She asked him how he knew he was father was “gay”. I guess De Niro read a paper the old man wrote after he passed away mentioning something about how hard it is to hide homosexuality. Couric asked him did his father ever talk about it, did he know his father was indeed homosexual. Was his father depressed because of his homosexuality, did his mother know it. De Niro answered no to all the questions. Guess De Niro had a great childhood with his family. He even says the part about his father being “homosexual” is a very small part of the book. In otherwords he didn’t know if the old man was homosexual or not.
Well that’s Hollywood for you. De Niro is a big time liberal Obama supporter and figured no one would buy the book unless he says his father was homosexual.
Thanks for the info. However, my mother (a staunch, devoted servant of the Lord) would roll over in her grave should I ever put my eyes on written works of the Devil. :o)
