Updates: I have been provided some background and additional info: Ever since the archdiocese learned of his homily remarks, he has been forbidden to offer public Masses in the NY archdiocese. A letter of complaint has been ldged with his home diocese of Johannesburg, S. Africa, as well as with his nuncio in Pretoria.
Fr. Wylie has been in NYC as a visiting priest for three years. His term at the Holy See's Permanent Observer Mission to the UN was supposed to end in July. Once his remarks got out, he was sent packing immediately; he no longer works there.

The churches and priests in the archdiocese of New York who support and celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass seem to be under attack by the powers that be. +Dolan is making it clear that he is not a shepherd to those who honor tradition.

This is about the Vatican II Church sucking the life out of whatever is left of the Catholic Church. The modernists continue to seek to obliterate all that is Catholic.

Vice President Joe Biden attended mass and received communion on Sunday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York where the mass was celebrated by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
At a time when the administration is being sued by Dolan and the Catholic Bishop’s Conference over the Obama health care provision on birth control, the meeting was seen as an attempt to create a new dialogue.
An Irish American Catholic, Biden receiving communion was also seen as significant. Dolan’s predecessor Cardinal Edward Egan refused to give communion to those who differed with the church on the abortion issue.
Biden says he is pro-life but will not seek to impose his views on others.
Biden met with Cardinal Dolan after the mass for coffee but what they discussed was not made public.
Biden’s latest move comes at a time when the Obama administration appears to be using the VP in a new outreach to American Catholics. -

And so he’s prohibited from performing mass because of remarks done in bad taste, but if he were molesting little boys, he’d be protected by the same authority, and likely shuffled around to another unsuspecting parish.
It’s once a priest, always a priest for gross immorality, but get canned for daring to criticize his higher ups?
The Catholic church has it’s priorities all screwed up.

The priest can disagree with the Bishop, in private, but it is out of order to do so from the pulpit, generally speaking.
The Homily is a specific part of the Mass where the day’s readings, especially the Gospel, are taught for the benefit of the congregation. It is not a place to gripe.
He should have followed his chain of command. By not doing so, he is disrupting the good order and discipline of the parish.

It scares the hell out of them. That's the best explanation I've been able to come up with after 15 years of watching certain bishops do everything they can to stamp it out.

Great question! Having not heard both sides, in my opinion, the tie goes to the Cardinal, because of his authority.
Have bishops been wrong? Yep. Just ask St. Padre Pio. However, the response of the saints who were wronged by the hierarchy has always been obedience. They bore the wrongs patiently, even into death (St. Faustina).
When a priest or religious begins badmouthing eloquently or otherwise their religious superior, I see unhealthy pride. I was a little put off by Fr. Frank Pavone’s letter, but glad he worked with his bishop to get things settled.
St. Paul was not obedient, nor was St. Athanasius, nor St. Joan of Arc. As a matter of fact, Cardinal Bergoglio public dissed Pope Benedict's Regensburg address.

Sorry, none of your examples hold up as appropriate for this context. St. Athanius wasn’t disobeying his religious superior, Joan of Arc wasn’t a confessed religious, and St. Paul cries out against disobedience.
In this case, with this priest, his comments are inappropriate, whether the comments are correct or incorrect.
In Phoenix, two traditional priests (FSSP) were attacked with one killed last night. It is a sad week for Catholics, particularly traditionally minded Catholics.
His comments are appropriate under the circumstances, and furthermore, he deserves credit for speaking the truth with charity.
What you seem to be advocating for is a form of clericalism which is divorced from truth and justice. God bless Father Wylie, and may He send us many more courageous priests who are able to discern the difference and speak the truth when justice demands it.
