CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION
PART ONE THE PROFESSION OF FAITH SECTION TWO THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
CHAPTER THREE I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
ARTICLE 9 "I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH"
Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church
963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503
So you think the Words of God could have passed away if not for human heroic efforts?
Matthew 24:35 NABRE
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
I guess you kind of walked into the answer I was looking for. What you posted was written. Please list the traditions unwritten in which you invoked as Paul alluding to.
If your position is the traditions Paul discussed were also written down then I agree with you. Makes sense, the apostles taught, led by example and then wrote down what was critical doctrine to encourage, exhort, correct.
No sir I don’t presume at all. It is the Roman position of presumption. There is no evidence Mary was conceived without sin. I was taking your presumption to a logical geometric progression. If Mary was conceived without sin then her father’s seed given by way of Adam would need to be without sin. The only other possible outcome is that Mary was not conceived in the manner all other humans are conceived. Which leads one to suggest she as well was conceived from On High. But I don’t even think a Roman Catholic would suggest such heresy.
And those prayers are directed to Whom and through Who?
Our mainly pathetic excuses for godly lives pale compared to those of Mary, Peter, James, John, and the other Apostles (excepting Judas who seems more like us). I can scarcely believe some of us have the Spirit of God; how could one not love Miriam and be inspired by her faith, courage, holiness, and undying loyalty to her son, the Son of the Highest; it is as if the basest instincts take over and there is no understanding of the majestic grace bestowed on her.
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
The epitome of double-speak.
And bought hook, line, and sinker by the thoroughly indoctrinated minds.
“Calling praying to Mary and departed saints and calling it adoration instead of worship is some stretch as well.”
Veneration, not adoration. If you’re going to attack the Catholic faith don’t you think you should attack the actual Catholic faith rather than get it wrong?
“A stretch which some could conclude is establishing a pantheon.”
Morons can conclude anything when they have no idea what they’re talking about.
Bread and wine - the fruit of the vine, as Jesus Himself called it.
>>Let’s play another logical argument... Protestants like to say that Mary is not ever-virgin and Jesus had siblings, right? So, how is it seemly for Jesus to give into the care of a non-family member if He has siblings who could (and should) care for her? The answer is it is not... unless He was doing something else from the Cross.
So... logically... do you fall into the “no siblings” camp or the Mother of the Church camp<<
We have witness in the same Gospel account Jesus’ kin do not believe He is the Promised Messiah. At least a doubt of such. Jesus IMO was handing over care of His mother to a young and trustworthy disciple.
Now, on the brother and sisters question? I never gave it much attention UNTIL coming to FR and saw so much on it. But then I looked at the text in Matthew and UNTIL means UNTIL in any language you want to choose. UNTIL really means UNTIL:
Matthew 1:23-25 NABRE
Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means God is with us. When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus.(NABRE)
The interesting footnote in the NABRE says “until” does not really mean “until” but does not preclude “until” from meaning what it really means. So their was never a post Savior birth restriction on Mary and Joseph living a normal healthy marriage. I guess the real question is why would Mary HAVE to stay a virgin her entire life. UNLESS joining as one flesh in marital relations is something dirty and sinful. Probably the Irish Catholic sex guilt coming in there:)
LOL. Might I suggest a Catholic caucus on “sword drills.”:)
I’m glad you are your own authority on God, the Bible and all religion. Some of us are not quite so rigid on it. I frankly don’t care about any of what you are going on about.
I’m not being personal about it, there is a very legitimate religious approach which says that this hyper textual approach is pointless.
Do you read these scripture in the original languages? Does anyone have an original of any of the Scriptures set down in the hand of the author?
As I said before, do you really think that God Almighty is going to pass judgment with a multiple choice or essay test to make sure that you know every line and that is His determination of who gets into Heaven?
What of the believer who has never read the RC catechism on Mary, and isn’t a scriptural expert like you? Do you think God gives them an F and sends them to Hell?
The RC Church descends from Peter and the apostles. They have an excellent claim to be following God’s instructions to His Disciples. Did Christ command the writing of the NT? Is that in the text?
A most dangerous suggestion there. So Mary can command The Son of God in all matters?
sigh....you left out the rest of the passage that explains this and why these “other” things the catholic church claims are not in the Bible.
And as John 20:31 notes that the ones we have in the Bible are given to us so that we may believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
You can’t take Scripture out of context and build theology around it....well I guess you can...but it’s wrong to do.
The Bible is written in a straightforward manner for all to read. God doesn’t hide His plan of salvation from people so that it can only be revealed through the pope or a priest.
If that’s the case no need for the Great Commission.
btw...I’m on my second semester of Greek, so yes, you can read the Bible in the original language. When you do you really gain insight to the meanings of the texts.
AWESOME!!!!
I have read your prayers to your saints and they are praying TO them FOR things.

Saint Joseph, I, your unworthy child, greet you. You are the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate you. You know that I have special confidence in you and that, after Jesus and Mary, I place all my hope of salvation in you, for you are especially powerful with God and will never abandon your faithful servants. Therefore I humbly invoke you and commend myself, with all who are dear to me and all that belong to me, to your intercession. I beg of you, by your love for Jesus and Mary, not to abandon me during life and to assist me at the hour of my death.
Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, obtain for me a pure, humble, charitable mind, and perfect resignation to the divine Will. Be my guide, my father, and my model through life that I may merit to die as you did in the arms of Jesus and Mary.
Loving Saint Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, I raise my heart to you to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the Divine Heart of Jesus all the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special grace I now implore:
(Mention your request). Guardian of the Word Incarnate, I feel confident that your prayers in my behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. Amen.
Saint Joseph, I thank God for your privilege of being able to die in the arms of Jesus and Mary. As a token of your own gratitude to God, obtain for me the grace of a happy death. Help me to spend each day in preparation for death. May I, too, accept death in the spirit of resignation to God's Holy Will, and die, as you did, in the arms of Jesus, strengthened by Holy Viaticum, and in the arms of Mary, with her rosary in my hand and her name on my lips!

Prayer to St. Joseph to Obtain a Special Favor
O blessed Saint Joseph, tenderhearted father, faithful guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of the Mother of God, we pray and beseech thee to offer to God the Father His divine Son, bathed in blood on the Cross for sinners, and through the thrice-holy Name of Jesus, obtain for us from the Eternal Father the favor we implore.
(Name your request.)
Appease the Divine anger so justly inflamed by our crimes, beg of Jesus mercy for thy children. Amid the splendors of eternity, forget not the sorrows of those who suffer, those who pray, those who weep; stay the Almighty arm which smites us, that by thy prayers and those of thy most holy spouse, the Heart of Jesus may be moved to pity and to pardon. Amen. St. Joseph, pray for us.
LOL, they never get tired of trotting out their bigotry for all to see.
Why does the Catholic church presume to correct the words of the Holy Spirit?
I shall ping you when such comes to pass. We had Mormons, Oneness types and JWs on one thread at one point.
Bread and wine.
