Revert Ping!
I realized priests were no closer to God than I
We’ve recently started going. My daughter asked me if we could go to church, and I started taking her to our local Catholic church. We just got back from our second Mass in two weeks.
My parents stopped going in 1963 or early ‘64. I’m not sure why; they had some sort of bad experience in our parish. It may have involved an elderly and somewhat authoritarian priest. It may have been related to some issue regarding me, or my educational track (I was in third grade at the time).
It was in the time period of the Kennedy assassination.
I returned when I discerned the Real Presence.
I have eaten Him today. Thanks be to God forever for this astonishing gift.
I didn’t go to mass for a couple of weeks and my life turned to cr@p!
The bishop has a men’s conference and sometimes we sit at a long table and talk about what happens when we don’t go.
The stories are not pretty.
My father was inactive Cathoic for lots of years until he marry my mom then he went back to Church
Reason is he left Cathoicism wasn’t really big in his household grew up yeah he was baptized went through first communioin but after I think after both my brother and I were born
He went back to Church
After noticing that her friends who prayed were able to cope with life better, she thought about going back to church...After 33 years away, she received the Eucharist for the first time on Christmas 2005...I cried all the way down the aisle...Beautiful post, Salvation. ♥
In before the haytas ... :-)
(Seriously, nice post Salvation.)
Bingo and the pancake dinners?
I had a great aunt whose husband had a big fight with the Jesuits at Georgetown. I have no idea what it was about. But they both left the Church. Some years later, after his death, she went to see a priest about returning to the Church. He gave her such a hard time about having left in the first place that she never went back. What a creep! (The priest.)
Most of the ex-Catholics I’ve talked to over the years joined other churches because those churches don’t have sinners in them.
Former Catholics?!?
I’ve been told may times, right here on RF, that there is no such thing. Once a Roman Catholic always a Roman Catholic.
Which is it?
I left the church because of their allowing priests to molest children. When you know someone it happened to and see that their lives are destroyed, it is really hard to be okay with the church until they make it stop.
There has been a little talk here and there, but there have been new cases all over the US. Is that what God wants them to do? Hide child molesters and move them around to unsuspecting churches? I think the answer is no....

Powerful, ping!
Wonderful post. Sadly, this thread took an unfortunate turn. To paraphrase Bishop Sheen, fallen away Catholics often are the most vocal enemies of the Church.
How about “They fell for the pomp and circumstance down at the local protestant mega church now they realize they were being fed at home”.
Pope Francis.
WELCOME BACK returning Catholics and God Bless!
WELCOME BACK returning Catholics and God Bless!
I do believe that it is by having Pope Francis who is NOT AFRAID to preacha and to teach on the Gospel of Jesus that is bringing Catholics back.
