Does The Orthodox Presbyterian Church use the Crucifix?
The Orthodox Presbyterian Church ^

Question:

Does the OPC use the crucifix in the church? If not, are they opposed to it?

Answer:

Thank you for your question. The answer is, so far as I know, the crucifix is not used in OPC churches, and here is why:

1.The Second Commandment (Ex. 20:4-6 and Deut. 5:8-10) forbids any picture or image of God, and that would include the Son of God, even as man. At any rate we do not know what Jesus looked like as there is no physical description of him.

2.The crucifix will always end up being an object of worship—regarded as holy. History teaches as much. The bronze serpent Moses made became an object of worship and was not destroyed till King Hezekiah did it (Numbers 21:9; 2 Kings 18:1-5). Roman Catholics have worshipped it, kissed it and held it to have mystical powers.

3.Christ did not remain on the Cross. In the Roman Church Christ is said to be resacrificed each time the Mass is celebrated. This is heresy; he died once for all—Hebrews 9:25-28.

We in the OPC have learned not to trust our idolatry prone hearts not to do the same as others have in the past. Hence, no crucifixes are used. So, yes, we are opposed to it.

Nice try my exact words were: What sin has an unborn or new born child committed?. So then there are exactly two choices ALL every single HUMAN being has committed a minimum of one sin and that would include the unborn, newborn, and Jesus who was fully HUMAN or Paul was speaking in hyperbole. You pick, Hint Paul was speaking in hyperbole because we know that none of those three were capable of COMMITTING a sin.

You are aware of course (or should be)that Rabbi means "teacher."

Might be time to review your position.

No Rabbi does not mean teacher. It means most great one.

It implies godly powers to alter Yehova’s word.

That is why Yeshua forbid to call men Rabbi or Father.

I’m sorry but I still don’t know what you are talking about re: bearing false witness.

Do NOT make this thread "about" individual Freepers.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

RABBI
In the Old Testament the title rab referred to any eminent holder of an office. Rabbi literally means “my master.” In the New Testament it is the honorable name by which the Disciples addressed Jesus as their Master (Matthew 23:7; John 1:38). Soon after the apostolic age it became the recognized title of Jewish religious teachers, and all modern Jewish clergy are called rabbis. (Etym. Aramaic rab, master + first person pronomian suffix: my master.)

I’ve refuted everything you’ve said.

Everyone else has refuted everything you’ve said.

All men are sinners.

Yeshua was the Rabbi, the great one, the son of Yehova.

Yeshua told his disciples that they had no master among men.

He said be not called Rabbi.

How do you not understand this?

Rabbi and Father are evil titles.

I guess that All doesn't really mean ALL and "end of discussion" doesn't mean "end of discussion."

Well for me it does feel free to have the last however many words you like.

when someone posts that they don’t understand “bearing false witness” and i post an article explaining the concept, how can that possibly be considered “making it personal”? no mention of anyone was made in that post.
