She is a political analyst, blogger, columnist and commentator. She is a Democrat who regularly contributes to USA Today, Newsweek, The Daily Beast, Fox News and the Wall Street Journal among other publications. She formerly served under the Clinton administration from 1993-1998 and was appointed Deputy Assistant U.S Trade Representative for Public Affairs.
In an interview with Focus on the Family, she shares how she converted from atheism to Christianity. She said: “I was not looking to be a Christian. The last thing in the world I wanted to be was a Christian. I had grown up as an Episcopalian, but not evangelical, born again, or any of those kinds of things. It was very high church, kind of mainline, protestant, episcopalian. I did believe in God, but it wasn’t anywhere near what would come to happen to me later in life.
“When I went away to college, whatever little faith I had, I lost. I ended up graduating from college. I worked in the Clinton administration. All my friends were secular liberals. At this point, I really got even more deeply into an incredibly secular world because now, all my friends were basically atheists, or if they had any kind of spirituality, they were very hostile towards religion, Christianity in particular. So, I really didn’t have any interest in it.
“I started dating someone who went to Tim Keller’s church, Redeemer Presbyterian in New York City. Out of curiosity, I went with him. But I told him upfront that I would never become a Christian; that it’s never going to happen. After about six or seven months, I began to think that the weight of history is more on the side of what [I was hearing at this church] than not. Tim Keller had made such a strong case, that I began to think it’s not even smart to reject this. It just doesn’t seem like a good intellectual decision.
“Really, it was like God sort of invaded my life. It was very unwelcome. I didn’t like it. Obviously, I started having a lot of different experiences where I felt God was doing a lot of things in my life. It’s kind of hard to describe, but I did have this moment where the scales just fell off of my eyes, where I was saying, ‘this is just totally true, I don’t even have any doubt.’ …I don’t really feel like I had any courage when I became a Christian, I just gave in. I wasn’t courageous; I didn’t have any choice. I kept trying to not believe but I just couldn’t avoid [accepting Christ]. If I could have avoided it, I would have. There is nothing convenient about it in my life or in the world I live in. It’s not like living in the South where everybody is a Christian. I live in a world where nobody is a believer. But God pursued me.”

I didn't take it that way. Living up North there are just not as many churches, as many Christians. I just spent a couple years up there (just outside NYC) and people stay home on Sunday morning. In our circle of acquaintances NO ONE went to church on Sunday, or discussed their faith.
Now that I am back in the South I as so happy to see so many churches and people so willing to openly talk about Jesus and God.
Tim Keller, the pastor mentioned above, said evangelism is easier in NYC. In the South many people will say they are Christians, even when they are not. It is such a cultural thing. Folks will say, "Oh yeah, of course I am a Christian." But they don't know the Gospel, they don't know God, they don't go to church, etc, etc. Up in NYC people are openly, aggressively atheist and at least you know what you are dealing with.
I have always liked Kirsten, I have always thought that was more to her than she knew herself, Praise God.
I understand that there are democrats that CALL themselves Christians. But for someone who talks about CHRIST and a definite conversion process, I just don't understand how they can look at todays demonrat party and identify with that. Maybe, possibly if they aren't very aware of politics and all their exposure is by ABCCBSNBSCNN, but she's an insider.
Eventually, her libtard “friends” will force her to choose between her faith or her former life . . . unless God works a miracle in their lives, too.
Nah. She eventually came to understand that that there is a certain inevitability. I for one, don't like inevitability and the resignation that one is powerless to stop it. I think that is what she is lamenting here, was that she was no longer able to resist the inevitable.
After dating Antony Weiner, and other godless filth, she has turned here life to god. Now we shall see how long she remains a democRAT.
In the South I know many unsaved people who would be too embarrassed to admit they aren’t Christians. And when they use the word Christian they mean bible-believing born-again Christian, not cultural Christian. It’s sad.
We need America to separate themselves from the evil in both parties. That is where the ground of unity exists. It is the parties that divide America. The parties have forgotten life and the Constitution.
Satan is strong in the Democrat party. Only Christ is strong enough to battle them today. It is better to show it is wrong to belong.
I have seen Kirsten Powers on TV. She is a typical air headed liberal. She takes whatever position that is politically correct.
This sounds like an attempt to please her boyfriend and an attempt to improve her likability. She sounds like someone in a very competitive profession who has little credibility and no following trying to attract attention and enhance her stature.
Being a sincere Christian is difficult, especially in today's world. You need to pray to God, forgo earthly pleasures, stand up for principles that are ridiculed and despised in today's world and give to others. But true faith and spirituality are far more rewarding than anything sacrificed.
I hope I am wrong. I hope her conversion is sincere. We shall see.
God bless her and I hope she continues to receive blessings in all she does. Once our Lord has touched your soul there is no turning back. Only He brings the love strength and comfort that gets us through every day of our lives in this fractured world.

She is one of the few liberal pundits that appears not to suffer from the poison punch. I don’t agree with her politics but she isn’t deranged like Colmes and that type. I guess that’s what the deranged are missing.
My cousin falls into this category. I see 2 things in his case. He doesn't read, or study Scripture. He thinks his "good works" earn him salvation.

JM: As an orthodox Christian where do you stand on the issue of same-sex marriage?
KP: I view same-sex marriage as a civil rights issue. As Ted Olson and David Boies have pointed out, the Supreme Court has affirmed 14 times that marriage is a fundamental right. I believe the government should provide same-sex marriage, and churches should be left to do what they believe is right. I am eternally frustrated by the way Christians conflate holy matrimony and civil marriage. While Christians are free to have their decisions influenced and directed by what the Bible says, they are not free to impose those views on other people, especially when they are constitutionally protected rights.
The argument that we are “redefining marriage” is specious. First of all, marriage has been redefined before. “Marriage” in the United States used to mean “marriage between people of the same race.” Second, civil marriage can mean all sorts of things. If a couple is married but decide they want to have an “open marriage,” for example, the state still recognizes them as “married.” Is that the definition of marriage that most people have? No. But it is a definition of marriage in the eyes of the state.
As you know, when Christians enter into holy matrimony in a church, it is an entirely different commitment than when two people enter into a civil marriage, affirmed by the state. Holy matrimony is a union with God. The Christian view of marriage is that it is supposed to reflect Jesus to the world. That is an entirely different definition than a civil marriage, which is what the state provides. I understand that people are concerned that churches will be forced to perform same-sex marriages, against their beliefs. I don’t believe this will happen, but even if Christians are afraid that the government might overreach and persecute Christian churches, that is never a justification to infringe on other peoples constitutional rights. If you have a fear of potential discrimination by the government the answer is not to discriminate against another group.
