Do our Catholic children and most adults know what these images teach?
All of us know one of the elephants in the room of the Catholic Church. Our religious education programs are not handing on the essence of our Catholic Faith, our parents are befuddled about their role in handing on the faith and the materials we use are vapid or if good do not make an impression on young minds. We are afraid of asking for memorization and thus most don't remember anything they've learned about God and Church other than some niceties and feel good emotions.
I teach each class of our grades 1-6 (we don't have 7th or 8th) each Thursday, rotating classes from week to week. For the last two years I have used Baltimore Catechism #1 as my text book. It is wonderful to use with children and it is so simple yet has so much content. If Catholics, all Catholics, simply studied Baltimore Catechism #1, we would have very knowledgeable Catholics.
These past two years I've used Baltimore Catechism #2 with our adult religious program which we call Coffee and Conversation following our 9:30 AM Sunday Mass, which coincides with our CCD program which we call PREP (Parish Religious Education Program).
This #2 book has more content and is for middle school, but upper elementary school children must have been more capable of more serious content back when this book was formulated and used through the mid 1960's because it is a great book to use with adults and not childish at all. We all use this same book as a supplemental book for the RCIA because it is so clear, nobly simple and chocked full of content!
Yes, there are some adjustments that need to be made to some chapters, but not that many, in light of Vatican II and the new emphasis we have on certain aspects of Church that are not present in the Baltimore Catechism. But these are really minor.
What is more important though is that when the Baltimore Catechism was used through the mid 1960's it was basically the only book that was used for children in elementary and junior high school. It was used across the board in the USA thus uniting all Catholics in learning the same content. There was not, in other words, a cottage industry of competing publishing houses selling new books and different content each year.
The same thing has occurred with liturgical music, a cottage industry of big bucks has developed around the sale of new hymnals, missalettes and new music put on the open market for parishes to purchase. It is a money making scheme.
Why do our bishop allow this to happen in both liturgical music and parish catechesis? The business of selling stuff to parishes and making mega bucks off of it is a scandal that has not be addressed.
In the meantime, our liturgies suffer and become fragmented because every parish uses a different resource for liturgical music and the same is true of religious formation, everyone uses something different of differing quality or no quality at all.
Isn't it time to wake up and move forward with tried and true practices that were tossed out in favor of a consumerist's approach to our faith that has weakened our liturgies, our parishes and our individual Catholics?
Yes; you did.
Infallibility = Truth
Fallibility = Error
Oh?
About a dimes worth?
Less than.
Every drop of blood Jesus shed on Calvary He got from Mary.
I pondered; and came away with...
"That's the dumbest thing I've read all morning!"
How many virgin birth babies were in your "scientific" study?
Nope! Fallibility only means that there is potential for error. Every time you travel anywhere, whether by car, boat, plane, bicycle or by foot, there is potential for a fatal accident, but you still move about because the vast majority of the time and for the vast majority of travelers the potential is not realized.
I am beginning to see why you make so many errors in interpretation of Scripture. Your English and Logic skills are deficient.
Peace be with you
Mindreading."Only to a thoroughly brainwashed Catholic mind."The indwelling spirit tells me that by "brainwashed" you mean cleansed in the Blood of the Lamb
Thank gooodness you didn't say "Holy Spirit."
Makes one ponder what kind of "indwelling spirit" would translate the Holy Spirit's works to brainwashing.
Every drop of blood Jesus shed on Calvary He got from Mary.
The blood in the body is constantly being created in the bones of the individual. Mary made that blood? Or did Jesus only shed the original blood (originally created by God, not Mary) that He "got" from his mother?
As many as your study had vampire babies that took all of Mom's blood.
So; you want it BOTh way; eh?
INfallibility must mean that there is potential for TRUTH.
Every drop of blood Jesus shed on Calvary He got from Mary.
I pondered it for about a half a second before I realized that there is not one shred of Scriptural or scientific support for such nonsense.
Since the God cannot lie and therefore the Holy Spirit cannot contradict Himself, one can only conclude that whatever indwelling spirit told you that is NOT the HOLY One.....
Acts 20:28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
Romans 5:9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Hebrews 9:12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
Hebrews 13:12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.
1 Peter 1:2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood
Hey, GC, another one for your homepage. They just can't help themselves from trying to credit Mary with salvation for mankind.
I love how Scripture has an answer for every blasphemy the Catholic church teaches.
Don't forget, Jesus said the cup was HIS blood. He didn't say *This is Mary's blood, shed for you.*
Gotta stay away from that incense.
LOLWHUT?
Incense makes me heave - and so does this steaming fog of Mariology.
Ignoring for the moment your attention span, can you tell me where Jesus got His blood, His DNA and His human nature if not Mary? Mary was the instrument of God through which Redemption and Salvation, the Body and Blood of Jesus came into the world. God dwelt within her for nine months and with her for 30 years before He began His ministry. Mary loved Him first and truest. The lengths some go to to discredit Mary is appalling.
Peace be with you
More Mary nonsense.
The early church did not venerate, bow down to or ask Mary for much of anything for the first 4 hundred years of the Church.
Mary was not was not much more than one of the believers until pagan influence crept into the church and creating a demi-goddess.
If Jesus is fully man, no he didn't, any more then any of us get our blood from our mothers. It just ain't so, except perhaps in some twisted Papist doctrine .
Jesus created a Church, not a Bible. The Church under God's inspiration created the Bible - and under His guidance, included the Septuagint.
By the way, the passages make my point very well - both of them. If you or anyone else chooses to disregard His Church, well, then, you may explain it to Him, as we all must explain ALL of our life to Him at our Judgement.
You may wish to look up RH incompatibility.
