They were men of the cloth.

But their cloth of preferance must have been silk -- as in lingerie.

Lead Pastor David Loveless, who has been married for 33-years and was recognized as "one of the top 20 Christian leaders in the US to watch," has resigned from the Discovery Church in Orlando after admitting to having an affair, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

Loveless is the third pastor of a major Orlando-area church to resign within the past six-months because of an affair.

“Loveless is the third pastor of a major Orlando-area church to resign within the past six months because of an affair. Isaac Hunter, lead pastor of Summit Church, resigned in December after admitting to an affair with a staff member. Sam Hinn, pastor of The Gathering Place Worship Center in Sanford, stepped down in January after admitting to a relationship with a member of the congregation.”

“”While we believe David Loveless can be restored to Christian fellowship and productive Christian service, we do not believe he can serve as a pastor at Discovery Church,” the statement said.”

And action was taken.

And this for garden variety affairs.

Never heard of him.

It seems to me that we put too much emphasis on growth and not enough to fulfilling the mission of preaching the word, in season and out. If we preach the word, numbers will take care of themselves.

Exactly.

The first church, documented in Acts, had 3,000 male members. If you include the wives and children it may have been as large as 10-12,000 people.

So there is precedent for the Mega church.

I wouldn't say that there's precedent for mega churches. God sent Saul to that mega church in Jerusalem.....

We are to go out into all the world and preach the gospel. A church that's too big tends to be ingrown.

"And this for garden variety affairs."

Sins against marriage and chastity are hardly "garden variety". Fornication is fornication is fornication. You don't get a pass if it is between consenting heterosexuals.

Marriage was the first sacrament and vocation. The union of a man and a wife is a holy entity that, once formed, cannot be undone.

Indeed. I have been using that image for quite some time, long before it was purchased by the RC Church.

***The poster implied, through that picture, that Warren was involved with the Crystal Cathedral.***

No such thing. It represents the bland consumer-driven spirituality presnt in many mega-churches. All fluff, no stuff.

It doesn’t seem to make much sense to use a photo of a Catholic church to make digs at Warren, is it photoshopped?

not absurd to point out blind prejudice such that one can’t see anything but one’s prejudice

I misinterpreted your meaning.

Crystal Cathedral and Saddleback Church could not be more different.

the Catholic Church NOW

and the picture in post 3 clearly has "RICK WARREN" written right over the top of it -- can you see that? This was the pastor of the Crystal Cathedral mega-kirk.

No, Rick Warren is NOT and never was the pastor of the Crystal Cathedral. You're thinking of Robert Schuller.

What are you getting nasty about? Crystal Cathedral is a catholic church, why does that set you off on a persistent and bizarre personal attack?

“I doubt seriously that any mega-minister could survive an intense investigation of his life.”

Nobody could survive an intense investigation of his life. However, you can’t have an affair and lead a church.

Once your word to your wife is no good, your word to everyone else is suspect at best.

I remember having this conversation with my wife about Bill Clinton at the time, and she maintained that it didn’t matter.

“So, I can go out, have an affair, and if asked you’ll tell the press that my credibility as a politician and credibility as a husband have little, if nothing, to do with one another?”

That was the end of the argument. You could make a pretty funny series of cartoons entitled, “What liberals see when the squint at the logic of . . .”

And then you can just list the topics - abortion, green energy, unions, adultery, etc.

Charles Spurgeon was the pastor of a mega-church.

Few, if anyone, have ever questioned his character

Actually, they are very close. Both focus on the individual, not on Christ.

” Crystal Cathedral is a catholic church,”

It used to be Episcopal.

If an “urban” church is successful, fornication by the clergy is expected and the music minister is probably on the down low. My dad told me that 40 years ago. I was surprised that people were shocked that Rev’s Henry Lyons and Jesse Jackson were having affairs.

I understand alot of people think that, but I would disagree. I sat in his services at Saddleback for years and actually listened to him, so I think I have a slightly different perspective than most.
