A Christian Beauty Vies For Miss USA Title
The Christian Diarist ^ | June 2, 2012 | JP

Posted on 06/02/2012 9:36:08 AM PDT by CHRISTIAN DIARIST

The Miss USA pageant will be held tomorrow. I’m praying that Miss Texas – Brittany Booker – wins the crown.

Not just because she is a “stunning, 5’11”, green-eyed model,” as her Miss Texas biography describes her. And not because she looks fabulous in both an evening gown and a swimsuit (both of which are required in the competition).

I’m backing 21-year-old Brittany because she is a devoted Christian.

And while she is beautiful on the outside, she is even more beautiful on the inside.

A Houston native, Brittany was raised in a Christian family, by parents who instilled in her strong morals and ethics. Those values were reinforced at BayArea Christian School, from which young Brittany graduated third in her class.

Miss Texas is a junior at the Universityof Houston, where she majors in psychology/human development and family studies. When she’s not in the classroom, she’s a regular volunteer at Hope Village Home for the Mentally Challenged.

Brittany devotes her Sundays to praise and worship, using the exceptional singing talent the Lord gave her in her church choir.

What I particularly admire about Miss Texas is that she is no closet Christian, hiding her beliefs so that she can get ahead in this fallen world in which we live, this decadent society of ours that has defined deviancy down.

Indeed, Freddie Cullins, former administrator at BayArea Christian School, attests that Brittany “is bold in expressing her personal Christian faith.”

In that trait, Miss Texas brings to mind Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California who controversially finished first runner-up in the 2009 Miss USA pageant.

Prejean, an unabashed Christian, was sandbagged by pageant judge Perez Hilton, the gay Hollywood gossip blogger, who used his final question of the contest to ask her where she stood on same-sex marriage.

Had she danced around the question, Prejean almost certainly would have been crowned Miss USA.

But the young woman stood up for her Christian beliefs. She told Hilton that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Given Brittany Booker’s boldness is expressing her Christian faith, it would not be surprising if one of the judges of this year’s Miss USA competition deviously decides to ask her a question that could cost her the title.

That’s why I’ve gone on the Miss USA website to vote for Brittany to make the pageant’s semifinals. And that’s why I’m praying the young Christian women wins the crown.

As is Scotty McCreery in last year’s Idol. McCreery comes from a very strong Christian family.

What’s that, an all-in-one combo swimsuit and evening gown?

I think Jordan Sparks is also a Christian, as well as Reuben Studdard.

XXX-Wrong answer.

Try reading the verse in context.

14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,

The passage is clearly talking about PARTNERING with unbelievers.

I find it interesting you mention this verse, written by Paul, who referred himself as the Apostle to the Gentiles. Can't be an Apostle to unbelievers if one seperates themselves from them. One must go out amongst them.

Jesus' own words in John 17
13 But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

I’m with you Brother.

I’m also reminded of the Biblical story of Esther, the Jewish orphan girl who ascended to queen of Persia. She became the wife of King Xerxes after a competition among all the beautiful young virgins in the empire, for which they spent 12 months of beautification.

God used that beauty contest to put Esther in a position where she could save her people. So who’s to say God would not use a beauty pageant to put young Brittany in a position where she can serve His kingdom purpose?

I agree. Her features are somewhat 'haughty.' Not that she can help it of course, but like you said I prefer a sweeter, homier type of face.

As for the rest of her I tried not to look. Christian? Maybe so, but she has an interesting interpretation of a biblical dress code.

“True beauty comes from within.”

Such a shame she can’t mouth this lame pageant platitude during the bikini portion.

Until the late 20th century a woman claiming to be a devout Christian who thought it necessary to demonstrate her “virtues” by getting tarted up and parading herself in shiny underwear for ogling millions would be mocked, at best, and rightly so.

They need part of the competition to be without makeup. Many of these so called beauties are merely good face painters.

Well, I must be mistaken to think a girl half naked before the world was not to be considered unChristian.

I guess those girls don't eat and drink winning and glamor and physical beauty from wake-up to lights out.

I'm surely misled to think that I might look upon that woman and not commit adultery WITH her.

I'm SO blind.

I appreciate you saying this, real christian, followers of Christ do not run around half naked, that would be inappropriate and not honoring our bodies as temples of the Holy God.

She won’t win
Knowing she is a Christian, they will ask her about homosexual marriage and then mau-mau her for giving the wrong answer

On the other hand, she is presenting herself on stage amongst a large group not at some peep show offering lap dances. The vast vast majority of her time as Miss Universe or Miss USA will not be spent in a swimsuit or an evening gown but she will have access to all types of people that might be influenced for Christ through her (especially impressionable young women seeking healthy role models).

There are many who think it is a sin to work on Sunday but Tim Tebow worked on Sundays last fall and made an impact on the lives of countless people he couldn't have reached accept as an NFL quarterback.

So don't be so narrow-minded. If this woman believes that a small amount of exhibitionism will help her ultimately reach others with the gospel, I wish her well. God has used prostitutes to do His will in the past - why not beauty queens?
