SALT LAKE CITY -- An LDS-oriented group is calling on GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum to disavow a pastor who made anti-Mormon comments earlier this week.
In a news release, MormonVoices, which is associated with the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research, called for Santorum to "condemn the anti-Mormon comments made by his supporter, an honorary Florida chairman, the Rev. O'Neal Dozier" of the Worldwide Christian Center.
On Monday Dozier said "the Mormon religion is prejudiced against blacks, Jews and native Americans." He called Mormonism a "racist" religion and called on Romney to renounce it.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints did not issue a response to Dozier but earlier has said "people of all races have always been welcomed and baptized into the church since its beginning" and "the church unequivocally condemns racism, including any and all past racism by individuals both inside and outside the church."
Scott Gordon, managing director of MormonVoices, not associated with the church, said, "Dozier's comments represent a form of religious bigotry that should not be tolerated by any serious candidate for the Presidency of the United States. His comments are either ignorant or are willful misrepresentations for personal or political purposes."
They tried this same stunt with Rick Perry.

Gee, truth hurts. And I can source those prejudices from their own prophets who claim to speak directly to God even on small matters.
In short, since it claims to be the ‘restored church of early Christianity’, if Mormonism were ‘true’ it NEVER would have had these racist teachings IN THE FIRST PLACE.
“people of all races have always been welcomed and baptized into the church since its beginning”

The were just not allowed into the Mormon Heaven (Celestial Kingdom), or their temples, or to pray in public, etc.
And Joseph Smith had a slave sealed to him to be his servant in the CK and Young took slaves as tithing in early Utah (Deseret).
Just more lying for the Lord from LDS inc.
I think the guy should apologize right after SLC lds apologizes to Catholics and Protestants for their doctrine/teachings that Catholics and Protestants are an abomination to God and whores of Babylon and that black people are cursed and not human.
This article was posted yesterday.
Or what? He won’t get to be Milt’s VP choice?
Hmmm, methinks there is some doublespeak going on here.
"Racism" vs. "revelation", I guess if the "racism" contained in mormon scriptures and spoken from the pulpit by numerous church "leaders" is presented as "revelation", then it's not the church's fault?
Ergo, it must be God's fault?
But Mormonism is NOT a religion...it is a cult.
Religions offer their version of truth...take it or leave it. Cults suck you in with deception and lies and lock the door behind you. And cults always seem to benefit their leaders at the expense of their followers.
If cults were spreading the truth...would they need to lie about it? And would they need to apply coercion to keep you from leaving...or telling the truth about them (hence the Mormon secret rites..."can't let the rank and file know...they might tell the truth about us.")
“No one outside of my campaign is authorized to speak for me; nor will I speak for anyone outside my campaign; and under no circumstances will I avow or disavow another’s spiritual or secular beliefs or opinions, as every citizen is entitled to have them and express them freely under our Constitution.”
May as well have this conversation now.

Let me pretend to be Santorum as I would wish him to be and then see how close he comes to it in reality:
The Preacher is correct, Mormonism is a cult, even my church recognizes it as such.
Just because Romney supporter and Libertarian talk show host Bill Cunningham called Santorum “Archbishop” because of his couragous stand on Eugenics/Obamacare still doesn’t make Santorum one. I don’t believe Dozier is his pastor unless he’s Catholic which he ain’t. They should go to that demonimation or don’t they know the difference between them or figure liberals are too stupid to know the difference.
“There are approximately 6.1 Million Mormons in the US. A majority of these are Conservatives.”
95% of them are supporting Bishop Willard. Bishop Willard governed to the left of Bill Clinton. Bishop Willard and those who would support him are not conservatives.
Ok, if they are as conservative as you say why do they vote in lock step (94-98%) for Romney and over whelming for Reid.
They are already voting for Romney, so what difference does it make, what an unknown guy says or doesn’t say.
lds are not as conservative as they appear to be, they do have a successful PR machine however.
Maybe after Obama publicly disowns his racist “reverend”.
You are assuming that LDS people whole-heartedly are going for Romney - because he is LDS. This is a false assumption, like saying that Baptists, or Catholics are sheep, blindly following a candidate simply because he goes to the same church they go to.
I don’t like Romney, and I’m LDS. Why? Because I have no idea what Romney actually believes. Gun, Abortion, Gov’t mandated insurance, Illegal Immigration; he’s been on both sides of the fence.
I want to learn more about Santorum, but as this is areana of ideas; alienating any particular group is ‘stupid’. If a candidate were to attack your religion, would you vote for him? Or, would you simply withhold your vote because of that insult? Some will vote, others will withhold - so, the question is simple “What is gained by alienating millions of voters?”
