Britain's late Princess Diana has been posthumously baptised a Mormon.
The royal - who was killed in a Paris car crash in August 1997 - was 'baptised' by the church after her death, even though she didn't belong to the religion.
Diana - former wife of heir to the throne Prince Charles - was listed by her maiden name, Diana Frances Spencer, with her address as the family seat of Althorp, Northamptonshire.
Her file also includes her birth and death date, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.
Other late stars to have been 'baptised' posthumously include Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth.
The Mormon Church believes that in the afterlife no one is beyond redemption, no matter how evil they were, so the list also includes Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
Helen Radkey has been investigating the Mormon Church - which is one of the world's fastest growing religions with 14 million followers, almost half in the US.
Using a computer log-on passed to her by a disaffected follower, she researched the databases in the Church's Family History Library and found that the names of hundreds of thousands of dead people had been logged, so they could be baptised as Mormons.
(I wonder if Monroe is reserved for Joseph Smith as an afterlife wife...what would Emma think...or Joe DiMaggio?)
just out of curiosity...
why would the mormons be doing something that seems so... stupid?
People say they don’t care about Romney’s religion, but I quite frankly don’t want anyone who believes this craziness leading the nation.
If Romney is on the GOP ticket,
these egregious events will be DAILY fodder
on all channels of the MSM.
So they can claim to be the world’s fastest growing religion, don’t you know.
The article says 14 million are Mormons, but don’t say how many are alive.
I can’t understand why people get upset over this stuff. They think they are doing a good thing. What harm are they doing?
Whats up with this weirdo practice?
Well darn. I wish there were a pervasive 24 hour news channel, radio stations galore and a global web, erh, Internet so we could learn about this.
It doesnt affect but injures the living for its insult of co-opting a loved ones memory with an appendix.
Personally, you wanna pray over my ashes, which will be compressed into golfballs and sent sailing into the ocean... be my guest.Luke 16
Good for Diana. Now I know I’ll meet her in heaven. She was still a babe when she crapped out!
Can Whitney Houston be far behind?
So, the holocaust victims are in mormon heaven with Hitler. And they are there to do what? Be servants to the Mormons in the celestial kingdom?
So if you were a Jewish mortician who got a network of worldwide morticians to circumcize dead people...to make them supposed afterlife Jews...why, they think they are doing a "good thing"...would they not? And who would know? (Therefore, in your book, what harm would they be doing?)
Harm:
Millions of Mormon man-hours -- Genealogy -- is rooted in baptizing dead people. Now, genealogy for "roots-searching" is fine, but when "genealogy as ultra time consuming religious obsession" takes over, wouldn't you say it might be good to consider what the apostle Paul has to say about this?
Or do you all just ignore the New Testament?
...stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths AND ENDLESS GENEALOGIES. THESE PROMOTE CONTROVERSIES RATHER THAN GOD'S WORKwhich is by faith." (1 Timothy 1:3-4)
But AVOID FOOLISH CONTROVERSIES AND GENEALOGIES...because these are unprofitable and useless. (Titus 3:9)
(Paul says it's useless, provokes controversy, and is not faith-promoting. So even the controversy ignited by protagonist Mormons is distracting)
As for the question, "Does this 'hurt' anyone?" yes it does -- in two prominent ways...
(a) It hurts the living because over-focusing on the dead distracts what we can do in relating to & in caring for the living!.
We can all agree that Jesus talked much about serving the living -- the poor, the widow, the orphan, the lost sheep, right?
So what would happen in the world if all religions obsessed with the dead as much as Mormons do? Obviously, we're not going to "end poverty in our lifetime" (Jesus said, "the poor will always be with you")...but since countless LDS leaders have called the Mormon people self-saviors and saviors of the dead, it's not only a distraction from the poor but delusional.
(b) Since countless LDS leaders have called the Mormon people self-saviors and saviors of the dead, it's not only a distraction from the poor but delusional.
We already have a "Savior of the world" -- we don't need millions more trying to bump Jesus out of that limelight:
* And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be THE Savior of the world. (1 John 4:14)
* They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is THE Savior of the world." (John 4:42)
Last time I looked in the Bible, Christians were supposed to object to idolatry in their culture. And if you don't think that Mormons make baptizers of the dead "saviors" who rival Jesus Christ, you haven't read their leaders' comments on baptism of the dead. For those citations, see: Are Mormon people LITERAL saviors of dead Jews, others? (The OTHER World Series: Vanity)
If you're a Christian or Jew and you conclude "this doesn't harm anyone," you're catering to idolatry -- substitute "saviors" pretending to act in his name.
I’m hopeful that the Mormons keep this up .... especially babe-wise.
“GOOD GIRLS GO TO HEAVEN, BUT BAD GIRLS GO WHEREVER THEY WANT”
See that doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t now how it insults or co-opts anything. If you don’t belive as they do (and I don’t) then they are just flaping their gums.
No harm. They do believe that Princess Diana can decline the invitation in the great beyond. Kind of like Jehovah’s Witnesses knocking on your door, but your dead.
Whats up with this weirdo practice? [mylife]
See post #14...See vanity link about how Mormons describe themselves as competitors of Jesus as saviors...They really think they act as "saviors" by doing this...
“There was this guy who was born to a woman to had never had sex, he could raise men from the dead, then he died, but he wasn't really dead....”
It tough.
Mormons are such silly people. Based on a cult, one that denies the Grace of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. There was nothing for Jesus to complete in the Americas, other than conversion of the lost whom live there!
