"What will happen to Catholics and others . . . ?"
Mirror of Justice ^ | Jan 2, 2012 | Robert George

Posted on 01/08/2012 12:46:11 PM PST by bkopto

One of my superstar former students, writing about his experience at one of our nation's premier law schools, sent me a note after reading my MOJ post on marriage, religious liberty, and the "grand bargain." Here is the text, with names removed to protect the innocent:

I had a first-hand experience with this reality in law school. One of my constitutional law professors taught the section of our course relating to same-sex marriage under the "inevitability" banner. I met with him in office hours later to talk to him about something else, but I brought up a question that I have been wrestling with: if the SSM advocates are right and opposition to SSM becomes analogous to racism in our society, what will happen to Catholics and others whose views on SSM cannot and will not change? Are they to be excluded from public office, political and judicial appointments, or places of trust and responsibility within private institutions (e.g., law firm partnerships)? I posed the question to him because I was curious to hear his response, since he is generally a kind and reasonable person who seemed open to other viewpoints.

His response was very disappointing, and it shook my confidence in him. He responded to me by saying something along the lines of: "Well, they [Catholics and others] will either have to change their views or be treated in the same way that white supremacists and the segregationist Senators were treated. They were excluded from the judiciary entirely for decades because of the South's views on race."

He evinced no sympathy for the traditional marriage position or those who hold it. They were to be relegated to the ash heap of history. He said all of this to me knowing full well (because I had foolishly just told him) that I was a Catholic who opposed SSM.

Is anyone prepared to say that the view expressed by the professor is merely a fringe opinion in the contemporary academy? Is anyone prepared to say that it is the view of only a small minority, or a minority at all, in what University of Virginia sociologist Jonathan Haidt calls the liberal tribal-moral community of contemporary academia? Would anyone deny that there is a significant element in the elite sector of the culture---an element with real power over the lives and careers of people like my former student---that wishes to penalize or discriminate against those who refuse in conscience to yield to the liberal orthodoxy on issues of sex and marriage? Consider the professor's own words. He made no effort to hide his goals and intentions. On the contrary, he made it abundantly clear that Catholics and others who persist in their dissent are to be treated the way we treat white supremacists. They are to be stigmatized, subjected to discrimination, and denied the right to hold certain offices.

And this professor, as my student observed, is a "generally a kind and reasonable person who seems open to other viewpoints." What are we to expect, then, from those who are even less "open to other viewpoints"?

Thank you for such a well thought out reply. It was not verbose it was perfect.

I can envision the people watching Noah build the Ark saying the same thing.

Envision anything you like, but don't expect the rest of us to pretend that it's the truth. Especially those of us who follow the Scriptures, instead of the man-made tradition of LaHaye and Darby.

“heterosexuals will have to submit to participating in gay sex once a month as a sign of their allegiance and solidarity to sexual diversity.”

Because the left values “equality” instead of true freedom. Somehow though I believe the Moslems will be legally exempt from these requirements of egalitarian tyranny but Christians won’t.

"I can envision the people watching Noah build the Ark saying the same thing. "

ROTFLMAO. So say those who adopt the heresy of Core and prefer the Pharisee canon to the Christian canon, and the words of Tim LeHaye or Hal Lindsey to those of Christ Himself.

Particularly when their preferred fantasy includes the expectation of a Messiah who disregards what Christ said and spares them from the battle in this life in spite of Christ clearly promising no such thing to those who follow Him. Those who believe Christ know He promised us no shortage of problems and conflict in this life as was illustrated by the lives of the Apostles and early Christians. Christians therefore do not expect to be extrated from the battlefield exactly when it becomes most critical to fight His foes or even die as a testament to our faith in Him. Far from being even vaguely similar to Noah building an ark, such Escape & Evasion advocates are just narcissists who who refuse to believe what Christ Himself clearly said. Doing what Christ says is expected of those who follow Him is is too costly for the fansty prone Self Worshipers, they much perfer their fantasy of being extracted from the battle because they're special little snowflakes, the most important and special snowflakes in the history of the world. Such very special and delicate little snowflakes that they can't be expected to bear their own cross as Christ did.

The dispensationalist Rapture boogie was tailor made to sell to gullible and self centered Self Worshipers who enjoy claiming that the giants of the Old Testament along with all the Apostles and Christians since Christ walked the earth are all worthless by comparison to the special few snowflakes like themselves. Escape & Evasion dogma is perfect for those so narcissistic that they see no problem with claiming to believe that Scripture is paramount but first throw out portions of His Word that Christ and the Apostles never said were in error and frequently quoted from. Even what they retained is almost always prefaced with, "that's what Scripture says, but that's not what it means" because what they want Scripture to say is cleary contradicted by what Scripture does say. Rather than mere rounds of Dungeons & Dragons, such lovers of fantasy games toss their multifaceted die of personal interpretation each morning as they browse the news then chatter among themselves as they and revise Scripture to suit themselves on a daily basis.

The Rapture of The Snowflakes Fantasy folks are not wise virgins keeping watch, they're fantasy prone Self Worshipers who never grew out of thinking like a child and playing childish games to feed their own ego. Their main goal isn't watching and waiting, it's denying that they need to surrender to Christ and can instead rely on thier own intellect.

Add Our Lady of Good Success to your list. Prophecies for our times(worthy of belief)

When everything will seem lost and paralyzed, that will be “the happy beginning of the complete restoration. This will mark the arrival of my hour, when I, in a marvelous way, will dethrone the proud and cursed Satan, trampling him under my feet and fettering him in the infernal abyss.”

>>Particularly when their preferred fantasy includes the expectation of a Messiah who disregards what Christ said and spares them from the battle in this life in spite of Christ clearly promising no such thing to those who follow Him.<<

Luke 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Lot was taken out of the wrath to come.

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

The chosen inside the Ark were saved from the wrath of God.

Jesus will deliver us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

We have already been told scoffers would make fun of us just like they did Noah.

2 Peter 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

If you are right we lose nothing. If you are wrong look at the group of people you will be associated with.

"Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Rom. 5:9.

I think the level of vitriol and hatred toward orthodox Christians (Catholics, evangelicals and others) by the Left, represented by this professor, is even worse than that focused on racists.

Racists were quickly forgiven and forgotten—Senator Byrd, for example, continued to be a leading liberal Democrat, in spite of his KKK leadership past.

You never heard of blacks or Jews pounding on racists’ doors demanding they leave town; homosexuals in organized riots already do this in San Francisco to conservative Churches.

I can envision a time when/if socialized medicine prevails—and “homo-phobia” will be a designated mental disease...with organizations and Churches banned who oppose perversion...and people actually locked up in “re-education” camps to “cure” them of this “homophobic” “hate” they have.

This is why I get infuriated when conservative Christians (some friends of mine) support heavy-handed government (such as restaurant smoking bans, or fuel economy requirements) as these are just the beginning of ever more creeping control—over everything.

The cry of Mussolini’s FASCISTS was, “All for the State, and nothing outside of the State.”

This is exactly what the Left in this country is about. Corrupted capitalism with total state control.

This is a very good response I’ve read to this issue:

http://www.hancockbaptist.org/05ArticlesText.php?t=JesusWouldDiscriminate.txt

Jesus Would Discriminate

“You may have seen the yard signs around town asking the question, “would Jesus discriminate?” You may also know that they are part of a $55,000 public relations campaign by the homosexual Metropolitan Community Church of Indianapolis to persuade people that opposition against homosexuality is unChrist-like. You should also know that this is a shameful campaign promoting an immoral lifestyle and that the subtle proposition that Jesus would not discriminate in regard to homosexuals is as flimsy as a house made with fractured toothpicks.

“First, we should not take it as a given that discrimination is always wrong. Discrimination is both Biblical and experiential. Everyone discriminates. Parents discriminate in the choices they make for their children. We discriminate on what movies we choose to watch or not to watch. We discriminate in our voting choices on Election Day. The members of the Metropolitan Community Church discriminated in their choice of spending $55,000 to defend homosexuality rather than to support a Crisis Pregnancy Center, or print Bibles, or defend persecuted Christians in Muslim lands. To discriminate is merely “to make distinctions in treatment” (Webster’s New World Dictionary, Warner Books, 1990). In fact, to imply that discrimination is somehow unChrist-like while discriminating is hypocrisy. Jesus never condemned discrimination. But He did condemn hypocrisy. Of course, discrimination can be wrong if we make distinctions for the wrong reasons, or if we do the wrong things in those distinctive treatments. But there is nothing wrong with discrimination. We must do it. Quite often we do it based on our moral values.

“Furthermore, the Bible discriminates. Jesus discriminated. For example, the Old Testament teaches that God chose the Jewish race to reveal Himself to them and bless them like no other people at that time - “He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel. He has not dealt thus with any nation; and as for His judgments, they have not known them” Psalm 147:19-20 (compare Deuteronomy 7:6-11). That is discrimination. Jesus told the citizens of Capernaum that “if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day” Matthew 11:23. But those works were not done in Sodom, though they could have been done there, and Sodom was destroyed. That is discrimination. Jesus said that when He returns to earth that some will “go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life” Matthew 25:46. That is discrimination. But it is a just discrimination.

“Thirdly, it is clear from the Scriptures that Jesus discriminated regarding homosexuals. Jesus believed, taught and lived by the Old Testament. He quoted it hundreds of times. He affirmed its absolute authority and warned that “unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:18-20. The scribes and Pharisees were the most radical, legalistic observers of the Old Testament laws. The Old Testament is unequivocal in its denunciation of homosexuality. According to Leviticus 18:22 a man “shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” It is such an abomination that “if a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them shall surely be put to death” Leviticus 20:13.

“Additionally, Jesus defended the Mosaic law of marriage which taught the life-long union of a man and a woman as the norm - Matthew 19:4-5 quoting Genesis 1:27. Jesus explicitly affirmed the historicity of Sodom’s destruction in Luke 17:29-30. Sodom, regardless of silly arguments to the contrary, cultured homosexuality - Genesis 19. Obviously, Jesus’ disciples believed that Jesus had an unequivocal position on homosexuality. Peter said that God turned “the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes making them an example to those who afterward live ungodly” - 2 Peter 2:4-6. Paul said that homosexuals are debased and that they will not go to heaven unless they repent - Romans 1:27-30; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. However, they may be delivered from this sin if they repent and trust Christ - 1 Corinthians 6:11. Jude said that the homosexuals of Sodom and Gomorrah are “suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” - Jude 5-7.

“So would Jesus discriminate? Yes.”

LOL, Oh, sure, anyone who doesn't agree with the YOPIOS cash cow fantasy of The Rapture of the Snowflakes Doctrine, is a scoffer. The Scriptues also say that there will be those who twist Scriptures to suit themselves and everything about the YOPIOS crowd screams, "Scripture twisted to suit whatever you like !!!". Noah didn't reinterpret The Word to fit into his preconceptions, build a fleet of Arks, and become a wealthy shipping magnet, all with the proceeds from the sale of his YOPIOS decoder ring based fantasy books.

The The Rapture of the Snowflakes Doctrine is a YOPIOS driven deliberate deception that very effectively neutralizes those who believe it by removing them from the battle against Satan every bit as effectively as if they never even believed in Christ to begin with. There's no "if you're wrong" about it, agreeing with Scriptures is never an error which is exactly why most Christians reject the Rapture fantasies. Christ clearly said Jerusalem would be destroyed while some of those he was speaking to were still alive and Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD. Fortunately Christians at that time took the words of Christ seriously rather than twisting them to fit into their fantasies. By believing what Christ said they knew to flee Jerusalem and in doing so were spared from the ensuing slaughter. The entire Snowflake & YOPIOS crowd would have been trapped with the Jews who refused to accept Christ and slaughtered right along with them because the YOPIOS folks can never accept what Christ said without first revising it to suit themselves exactly the same way Eve revised what she was told. Self worship and YOPIOS always leads to heresy and a reprobate mind incapable of understanding Scripture, even for those who once earnestly studied His Word but then fell into worship of the Self like all the Gnostics before them have.

There is no Rapture of The Snowflakes or any other sort of Rapture predicted, foretold, promised, or even hinted at in the Bible, not even in the abbreviated Pharisee approved subset of the Scriptures non-Catholics prefer. The Lindsey/LeHaye money machine is based on stroking the egos of those who join their fantasy game clique and claim snowflake status. To accept any of the assorted flavors of the Rapture of The Snowflakes Doctrine requires you to accept the premise that Jesus Christ was and is a liar. Just look at the group of people calling Christ a liar associates you with.

I did a master’s in midlife at an Ivy university, took a Constitutional Law class in which the professor decried the increasing encroachment of the SCOTUS on our liberties, and received the same sort of response from him when I did my thesis on the legal destruction of traditional marriage.

I was most disappointed; since he himself was married to the same woman for decades and the father of young adults.

Religion just doesn’t count with self-worshipping intellectuals.

The routine diversion of any and all threads into either commentary about the Snowflake Rapture Fantasy or anti-Catholic diatribes certainly shows that what happens to Christians when their First Amendment rights are trashed is of no concern whatsoever to those who worship their own intellect and refuse to accept Christ. Do you also believe all the Apostles lied they same way you claim Jesus Christ lied?

Yes, the lines are drawn. What happens next is the question. Will people with moral compasses and courage stand up? Fight this? Repubs in DC, or state governments? Will they? If they don’t, will we? ANd if they don’t, and we do, will it do any good?

Mat 24:42" Watch ye therefore, because you know not what hour your Lord will come."

You owe me five answers in four other threads but I won't ignore you as you do those who ask questions you don't like. Of course, posting Scripture as an aswer to those who have no respect whatsoever for the Word of God and twist it to suit their own preconceptions always bothers me a bit since we're told not to throw pearls before swine.

I have pretty much come the realization that I will either be killed or imprisoned by my own government because of my Christian faith.

We have to expect this persecution and denial of freely speaking of our faith....but especially that of speaking against sin.....It's not just the Government though.... The 'world' has come into the churches rather than church going out into the world.... So who is Evangelizing who could easily be said in our day.

Take a look sometime at the "Cathedral of St. John the Divine" and see what is spewed throughout.....or investigate a little about the "Temple of Understanding" in the United Nations for an eyeopener... Then check out the "Emerging Church" Movement which is catapulting the "great falling away" we see more and more of today as they and others desire 'Unity' more than 'Truth'.

We are living in the postmodern era where lies and distortions are being mixed with Christianity as a means of watering down the truth in order to create Unity in the worlds religions. New Age Spirituality and The Emergent Church are on this path and fast moving into the Christian churches.

Shall I say welcome to the beginnings of a repeat of the dark ages...or as they would otherwise call it..."The Age of Enlightenment".
