Maybe you could point us to a post I made where I defended “mormonism”. I have said that there are conservative mormons. I’ve not defended their religion. I’ve defended freepers who were mormon; but I’ve not defended their religion. I’ve argued that we shouldn’t ostracise or drive away conservative voters who are Mormon; where I have defended their religion?
The closest I’ve come to “defending” mormons is when I’ve pointed out that the FLDS church is a separate entity from the LDS church, and that each church should be judged on it’s own beliefs. But show me where I’ve defended the mormon belief system.
On the other hand, there’s little call to “defend” Christianity here at FR, as most everybody in the religion threads already practices Christianity, and they do an excellent job in the rare occasions when Christianity itself is attacked. I do defend my particular doctrinal beliefs when I notice they are being discussed, and I’ve done that enough times that you might have noticed it.
I also spent a good amount of time defending Christianity indirectly in threads about creationism, but they weren’t generally in the religion forum.
I don’t know why I’d ever defend Islam. And frankly, especially since as I told you I do see some political issues regarding the Islamic faith and how it is taught and led, I don’t feel any desire, or see any purpose, in calling here for people to be personally more accepting of conservatives who practice the muslim faith. Frankly, while I knew a lot of freepers who spoke conservatively but were mormons, I don’t actually know if there ARE any muslim freepers, much less any that I would think were conservative.
This thread has been quite active; but the only purpose I had in this thread was to question a claim of fact, not opinion: that Reid got a majority of the Mormon vote, something someone else brought up first. When that question became a more general discussion of whether Mormons could be considered conservative allies, I spoke about that as well, because I do believe we have conservative mormon allies in the political arena.

Both worship Joey Smith...
Both have the book of mormon as their religious text
Both groups have D&C 132
Both groups are Mormons...
The LDS is an off shoot of the fLDS
The fLDS are living like Joey Smith told them too
The LDS have a watered down mormon “gospel”
Something we can depend on is you on Mormon threads and Romney threads.
Not so much on Christian threads.
And the FLDS folks MUST be the TRUE 'mormons', because THEY are the ones who now actually FOLLOW the MORMON commands found in D&C 132!
