The closest I’ve come to “defending” mormons is when I’ve pointed out that the FLDS church is a separate entity from the LDS church, and that each church should be judged on it’s own beliefs.

And the FLDS folks MUST be the TRUE 'mormons', because THEY are the ones who now actually FOLLOW the MORMON commands found in D&C 132!

Remember the MORMON Mantra: Ye shall know them by their fruits.

While i’m not saying the show is realistic, I found it interesting how “Big Love” had a fight between the LDS church and the polygamist’s new church over the use of the term “mormon”.
