Instead of attacking Catholics, how about they start attacking islam and the koran? What a waste.

Depends how intelligently one uses the Rosary. All the mysteries one is supposed to be meditating on are about Christ and his relation to the Christian (which is what Mary stands for in the devotion).

Nothing gets some Protestants in a stew quite like Marian apparitions. They must be debunked at all costs and cannot be allowed to stand. For if only one is authentic, Protestant theology collapses like a house of cards. Reports of miracles at places like Lourdes, Fatima and Guadalupe sow absolute panic.

That God might send his Mother to warn us of the consequences of our actions and invite us to repent and turn back to Him, is unthinkable. For that is what all Church approved apparitions essentially say; "repent and come back to my Son". What's the problem with that?

Of course, God can give messages and prophesies to some plastic-haired, polyester-suited showman......excuse me, .........preacher, but He can't do the same through his own Mother.

Paranoid, illogical and silly.

Catholics must not doubt or deny any of the Marian dogmas for salvation, prayer to her is theoretically optional.

Sheer and utter nonsense! The only thing I have no doubt of is your ignorance!

they derive some special pleasure out of tormenting Catholics

Pathetically sad isn't it?

How did you miss that during the Rosary we are to meditate on events in the life of Christ. The mysteries that are about Mary are limited. They are Mary’s Assumption into heaven and her being crowned by Jesus. These alone can be said to be extra Biblical and based on Tradition. The other mysteries are all Biblical.

The Rosary is essentially 90% Mary and 10% God, with the exception that Jesus is Mary's child (" .. blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus" ), He isn't too much a part of the Rosary.

That's a common Protestant claim which is patently false. What about the Sign of the Cross, the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Glory Be's, the Fatima Prayer (Oh my Jesus...) and the fact that you're meditating on different mysteries in the life of Jesus? The Hail Mary itself is entirely scriptural.

I don’t need intelligence to understand and obey, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”, just a rudimentary ability with the English language ... one of the factors that attributed to my seeking the Truth.

So--you have doubts about Catholicism? :)

Just pushing a button or two

There were three things in the film and our discussion that were most alarming to me. First, a church in South America has Mary placed on a crucifix rather than Christ.

This is false. And it's just one of many falsehoods, lies, distortions and half-truths contained in the film Catholicism: Crisis of Faith.

The woman on the crucifix is not the Blessed Mother. It is the statue of Saint Liberata ("she who received the liberation". It is located in a monastery in Ecuador. She was a devoout Catholic who defied her father's wishes to marry a corrupt non-Christian prince. The story is that her father, who was a Portuguese prince, ordered her crucified.

St. Liberata is a martyr for Christ. That is why she is honored and venerated--not worshipped.

**This article was submitted by a former Director for a “Mary, Queen of Peace Center.”**

I pray that when this person meets the Blessed Virgin Mary at the moment of his death, he will be ready for the consequences — unless he repents, of course.

The author seems to be trying to write an article critiquing the Medjugorje apparitions. And he also has an article explaining why he lost interest in Catholicism.

So he mixes the two topics together into one article, implying that the errors surrounding Medjugorje prove his other thesis about the errors of Catholicism. Not only is it very poor writing, one could claim that it is a deceitful writing tactic. Not very biblical.

People who are wrapped up in the Medjugorje events to the point of engaging in cult-like behavior would be well advised to take a more sober look at the events there. Articles, such as this one, with its confusing writing style, are not too helpful to such people.

Do you take kindly to anyone who might belittle your mother?

I KNOW that Christ does not. People who do not honor Christ’s mother will suffer his just judgement.

"The Hail Mary itself is entirely scriptural."

Just the first stanza.

The second denies Jesus' admonition to call no one holy except the Father;

The eternal God can have no mother;

Mary confessed to the angel that she needed a savior, thus a flesh and blood sinner (as we all), and is now (without a speciel decree .. by men .. ), dead and cannot pray for anyone.

This non-profit organization disseminates information and messages from Marian apparitions in Medjugorje and around the world.

They may not be the "Queen of Peace Center", but here's some related/recent activity from the Caritas of Birmingham's similar Medjugorje Today:

Through the billboards of Our Lady a grace has caused many to come back into the church, nonbelievers come to believe and many have been introduced to Medjugorje, Our Lady and Her plans for the world in “Her time.” No other Medjugorje project introduces on a daily basis more people who know nothing about Medjugorje than Caritas’ Medjugorje billboard project, “This is Her Time.”

FR keyword: Medjugorje

"Neighbors and close friends of mine knew I was seriously contemplating becoming Roman Catholic."

Obviously, contemplating isn't the same as studying and learning.

" ...Jesus alone is my Savior, and not co-redemptrix with His mother.

One of the most common, if not THE most common, lies about the Catholic Church is that it teaches anything other than salvation through Christ and Him crucified. Those who in their own personal version of Christianity use the Lego Block Method of Interpretation and randomly string verses into whatever they like are only able to hide from the truth by always throwing rocks at others. Without the constant lying about the One True Church they'd soon realize that their own interpretation of Scripture leads them into the same sort of acknowledgment of Christ the demons have rather than to salvation through Christ.

Regards

Do not make this thread "about" individual Freepers. That is also a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
