Pastor Chuck Smith Stuns Radio Listeners By Encouraging Woman To Abort
Operation Rescue ^ | February 11, 2011 at 2:22 pm | Troy Newman and Cheryl Sullenger

“It’s awfully hard to actually suggest abortion,” said Smith. “But, you know, I’m sure that, uh, in a case like this where the life expectancy is just, you know, is so bleak, and all, that I’m sure that the Lord would not condemn her if she went ahead and had an abortion at this early stage of the development of the fetus.”

Interestingly enough I found that too. Sometimes when he went off topic it left me wondering. But he always said ‘check it out’ meaning he wanted us to check out what he said.

The Bible does speak about life and abortion though not directly and in several places. When the Virgin Mary(some 3 months or less pregnant) visits Elizabeth and Elizabeth cries out ‘..my lord and my god’. To ignore this and to say that the Bible doesnt speak to life and abortion is plain wrong. Dr. Walter Martin became a crackpot to me then. Although I still have his Cults book and quite a few of his tapes in my reference library.

"Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts."

Obviously you didn't take the time to read the part about personal attacks.

Yes condoms. You wrote that " If you’re for contraceptives, you’re for abortion". I wrote back that condoms which is a CONTRACEPTIVE (contra-ceptive meaning against conception) prevents fertilization and does not abort.

If you can't answer without using personal attacks I suggest you refrain from posting until you learn a little civility.

I too have his books on the cults. I used to have just about all his tapes from all the Bible Answer Man broadcasts but have since given them away. I don’t have any references to his answer about abortion. I still wouldn’t call him a crackpot until I can at least read a transcript of what he said.

I’m sorry, its just me. But if someone uses the Bible and cant’ get the life issues right, then they are a crackpot to me. The Didache can be used as a reference to thoughtful christians.

It's one thing to make that choice for yourself to carry and nurture a child that has no chance physically and/or mentally. It's a whole 'nuter program if you seek to compel every woman and family to carry that weight.

It isn't about her. That is the first thought that should go through a pregnant woman's mind. There is no easy pregnancy that is not full of pain, worry, and misery. Bringing a life into the world is hard dangerous work.

No one has the right to judge a life worthy of existence -- not even the woman who carries it. Duty and morality are not options we can simply shed when they become inconvenient.

So, who didn’t read the rules again?

“Yes condoms. You wrote that “ If you’re for contraceptives, you’re for abortion”.”

Where did I write “condoms”? You keep saying I wrote “condoms”? Where did I do that?

“I wrote back that condoms which is a CONTRACEPTIVE (contra-ceptive meaning against conception) prevents fertilization and does not abort.”

I never said anything about condoms.

“If you can’t answer without using personal attacks I suggest you refrain from posting until you learn a little civility.”

Again, you wrote: “Are you being insipid or what?”

Just an FYI.

Pastor Chuck has just recently returned to his duties after back surgery.

Who is this Pastor Chuck? Isn’t the Calvary Chapel non-denominational?

Yes, Calvary Chapel is non denominational.

Pastor Chuck is the pastor who started Calvary Chapel. I am not sure of the year. But he sometimes talks about the time when the church meet a tent before the church was built. It was during the Jesus Freak movement of the seventies at least. He is a very humble Godly man. I used to go there in the late eighties.

Yupper.

The bible is silent on many things.

That is why I LOVE being Catholic and thank God I am not in a “bible alone” sect.

YOPIOS leads to this abominable horsesh!t.

Yes, Insipid, meaning: Dull Bland Wishy-washy Characterless Empty Vapid Colorless Trite.

Need I go on? First of all you didn’t define your terms. Secondly you cast aspersions on my academic background.

You said ‘contraceptives’. You didn’t define what sort; mechanical (i.e. condoms) or chemical (i.e. a pharmaceutical). Since you used a generic word "contraceptive" without stating what kind it left you open to question. Since a condom is a type of contraception then it follows you let yourself open because you didn't state what sort.

You inferred that any sort of contraception is tantamount to abortion.

Then you went into your specious argument about my understanding or lack thereof of the birth process not knowing whatsoever of who I am or my background.

If you intend in the future to have a coherent intelligent discussion I suggest you refrain from innuendos pertaining to one’s character or education. When you do that, you’ve lost the argument as you’ve obviously have done here in your posts.

Have a Nice Day.

Since you seem to know how to use a dictionary, why don’t you look up the word “hypocrite”? Or, if you’re pressed for time, just look in the mirror.

By the way, thanks for proving my point that I said nothing about condoms. I was right all along and you were wrong.

Time to step down, Chuck Smith. Your days of teaching/preaching the Word of God are over.

I agree. He showed a huge lapse of judgment on a subject that is way too important, the sanctity of human life. He needs to step down or be put out of the ministry. He MUST repent and and be accepted as a brother but not as a pastor.

Now where in the Bible is abortion ever even mentioned?

Let me think...I know...It's one of those Ten Commandments...THOU SHALL NOT MURDER.

Here’s something to chew on: Protestants are almost always pro-abortion

How offensive and stupid to make such broad brush comment. Some denominations have been completely taken over by liberals while others remain true to Biblical morality. Where do you get off making such a generalization?

Your comments would be liking claiming the Catholic church is the one most pro-homosexual since it has so many homosexual priests molesting boys.

That’s disgusting. Nobody has the right to decide who “has a chance” or to limit what someone can achieve. I just read about a child born without part of his brain. All the doctors said he’d be a vegetable, but he’s fine.

Doctors are wrong all the time. All kinds of people have been told they were having Down Syndrome babies, and the babies turned out perfectly fine. If you can’t handle a special needs child, give it up for adoption.

No, offensive and stupid is to take someone’s comments out of context and misrepresent what was said.

This is what I said:

“Here’s something to chew on: Protestants are almost always pro-abortion. They just don’t know it. If you’re for contraceptives, you’re for abortion.”

You also wrote:

“Your comments would be liking claiming the Catholic church is the one most pro-homosexual since it has so many homosexual priests molesting boys.”

False. The correct analogy - but still false - would be: “Catholic priests are almost always pro-homosexual. They just don’t know it. If you’re got a lot of fellow priests who molest kids, you’re for homosexuality.” It still isn’t true, but at least that would be analogous to what I actually said.

Now, “where [I] get off making such a generalization” is simply this. Contraception - the practice of it - always leads to more abortion not less. Almost all Protestant sects support contraceptive use and have, in fact, adopted contraceptive mentalities. Some contraceptives, such as teh Pill, are abortifacients - yet you hear nary a complaint from most Protestant sects. Also, some prominent “pro-life” Protestants are really not pro-life. Jerry Falwell, now dead, supported abortion in cases of rape and incest, for instance. Many so-called pro-life Protestants think abortion is a-okay in those cases.

Advocate abortion - ever - and you’re pro-abortion.
Support The Pill and you’re de facto pro-abortion.
Those are the facts.

That is a false statement. Contraceptives that prevent conception are not abortifacient.

And, other than liberal denominations that aren't Christian anyway, Bible-believing Protestant denominations like the Assembly of God oppose any form of b/c that end a pregnancy after conception:

http://ag.org/top/beliefs/topics/relations_17_birth_control.cfm

The use of chemically induced or surgical abortion as a means of birth control is flatly rejected. The Assemblies of God has an official position opposing abortion. Any birth control method that functions to destroy a fertilized egg, rather than actually preventing conception, is considered unacceptable
