Pope includes Hindu verses in prayers on Good Friday

HINDUS HAVE applauded Pope Benedict for including verse from ancient Hindu scripture Upanishads in the Good Friday Meditations and Prayers led by him at Roman Colosseum.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was a remarkable gesture from Pope and invited him to study more ancient Hindu scriptures, which were very rich in philosophical thought. He or other Hindu scholars would gladly provide the help and resources in this regard, if asked, Zed added.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, also commended His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for inclusion of a verse from India’s Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and reference to peace icon Mahatma Gandhi in these prayers.

This year’s 'Way of the Cross at the Colesseum' Meditations and Prayers on Good Friday, led by Pope, included well-known verse from Brahadaranyakopanishad (“Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality”), line from Tagore’s Gitanjali (“Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service”) and reference to Mahatma Gandhi.

Rajan Zed stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.

Pope Benedict heads the Roman Catholic Church, which is the largest of the Christian denominations. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

Does the catholics who twist other's posts upset you? Do the twisting of God's Word upset you? Does heresy teachings that are assigned as coming from God upset you?

Or is it all about you? It should be.......

I used to have a grain or three of respect for you.

I realized what you were all about when you started posting comments about the "soylent white wafer" and all the rest of your constant un-holy spirit inspired flame baiting words flowing lately from your keyboard.

Its not that I do or do not respect you, I just pity those who need to stoop to such anti-Christian, uncharitable levels in "debate" with fellow Christians.

And the fact that these flame bait attacks are routinely tolerated is simply ... intolerable.

If I want to see that kind of attack, I'll just read the NYT or tune into the MSM in general. Seeing it coming from supposed "christian" posters is telling.

Foxe includes the Albigensians in his list of martyrs. They were Cathars and as such taught and practiced Gnostic heresy. I’ll be generous and believe Foxe was ignorant of this but any orthodox Protestant who knew what Gnosticism was would reject this heresy and not defend the Cathars’ beliefs.

The false man-made gospel of sola scriptura preached here 24/7 upsets me the most on this subforum, I guess.

It is 100% true that falsehoods by many Protestants in these threads are tolerated by the mods and that gives the posters the encouragement needed to continue such behaviors.

AMEN!

Oh poppey cock Cronos...that wasn’t even close to an attack. Rather several commented on how humerous the photo is....and it is.

It appears you might need a sensitivity adjustment.

!!!!CONTROL!!!! phreaques gone wild. It’s endemic to the INSTITUTION. I think it’s all they know how to do.

The result of their 'trying' to defend the indefensible and fail. Then they try the TERRIBLE TWO'S tactic.

May God multiply donations 10 times over for every dollar withheld by RC’s.

This site is about one nation under God - not one religion under Rome. Maybe that's their angst, who knows.

G'night, Quix.

This is an "open" Religion Forum thread which means posters may argue for or against deities, beliefs, religious authorities, etc. They may condemn or ridicule. It is a town square format and therefore can become contentious.

If that type of debate is offensive to you then IGNORE the "open" Religion Forum threads altogether and instead post to the RF threads labeled "caucus" "ecumenical" "prayer" or "devotional."

That would only makes sense to those who are ANTI-WORD.

"Stop accusing other Freepers of worshiping Satan.

When I protested Catholics in general and the Pope in particular being repeatedly accused of worshiping Satan I was told;

"Jesus and the Pharisees both accused each other of being Satanic. It’s common in theological disputes."

"You need to take a break from the “open” Religion Forum threads to grow some skin."

Does this only apply to me or to Catholics in general?

That is not what he wrote.

Sola Scriptura is not the same as The Bible. One can believe the Bible without believing in the doctrine of Sola Scriptura. One is the Word of God the other is a belief on the authority used to determine church doctrine.

Yes — RM, this is what you had said was acceptable and “ common in theological disputes.” — so then why are you deleting my posts stating the facts about Anton LeVay?

It needs to be either one way or the other, precedence says that one can point out that “Jesus and the Pharisees both accused each other of being Satanic. It’s common in theological disputes.”

Let’s see, since this thread was posted, almost 9000 children have been aborted in this country alone. Since this story was written, nearly 2.5 million children were murdered in their mothers’ wombs. Countless Christians have been martyred because they proclaim Jesus Christ Lord. Perhaps since this thread has been posted a fellow Christian has been hung in Afghanistan because he dared to praise the name of Jesus.

Mocking others is easy, witnessing to life, preaching Christ crucified is hard.

Imagine if half the effort that went into the mocking of fellow Christians went into witnessing outside abortion mills. Imagine if all the time that every poster had spent on this thread had been spent on their knees praying for those Christians who face death because they proclaim Christ Jesus. Imagine the force for God’s glory that could have been.

Rather, Satan looks at the discord among Christians and laughs. And innocent blood continues to be shed while cheap points are scored and sarcasm reigns.

AMEN!

When the word of God unsettles someone, it would be prudent for that person to examine why he has such a tense reaction to God's truth.

Maybe God is telling him something. And a wise man listens.

The term “Proddy” sounds a little childish and fails to convey accurate description. More accurately you should go with CINO.
