Evangelical book catalogs promote books such as Planet Earth: The Final Chapter, The Great Escape, and the Left Behind series. Bumper stickers warn us that the vehicles occupants may disappear at any moment. It is clear that there is a preoccupation with the idea of a secret rapture. Perhaps this has become more pronounced recently due to the expectation of a new millennium and the fears regarding potential Y2K problems. Perhaps psychologically people are especially receptive to the idea of an imminent, secret rapture at the present time. Additionally, many Christians are not aware that any other position relative to the second coming of Jesus Christ exists. Even in Reformed circles there are numerous people reading these books. Many of these people are unaware that this viewpoint conflicts with Scripture and Reformed Theology.

Or children.
i am glad you think Cyril was a Christian, even though he believed and taught the Catholic doctrines of baptismal regeneration and the Real Presence in the Eucharist. Keep reading him and St Iraneus and you may even stop fighting the Church.
Now, on these silly Mary questions. Because Mary was the human vessel God chose to give Jesus flesh from and Jesus became man thru Mary, and salvation is from Jesus alone, we can say that all graces flow thru Mary since Jesus, the source of all grace, came from Mary. Just as Jesus said Salvation is from the Jews, John 4:22. You would object and say Salvation is from Jesus, both statements are correct since Jesus is a Jew. You are mistaken if you take those statements to mean Mary is God, as i think you are implying. NO, NO, NO, Mary is a created being!!! God alone is to be worshipped!
Try getting Baptism and the Eucharist right first, before worrying about Mary or the Popes!
Let’s see you answer the assumption of Mary question before you ask me any more questions.
We believe God. We just don't believe your interpretation of God's word.
I will not hear of such an attack upon the good Quix. He is not and can never be a Class A Troll. A C at the most...
The council statement only recognizes that the papal office always retains some power, not that Catholics are obliged to obey a sinful command. They most certainly are not.
Great is the Baptism that lies before you: a ransom to captives; a remission of offences; a death of sin; a new-birth of the soul; a garment of light; a holy indissoluble seal; a chariot to heaven; the delight of Paradise; a welcome into the kingdom; the gift of adoption! But there is a serpent by the wayside watching those who pass by: beware lest he bite thee with unbelief...
there you have it, baptismal regeneration straight from somebody one hour ago you thought was a Christian!!
Why are you disagreeing with your popes?
You call them silly and yet it’s Catholic popes who made those declarations.
By that alone, you are obligated to believe them. Or are you going to tell us your popes are wrong?
My understaning is that you must have faith and believe all ex-cathedra pronouncements. Non-ex-cathedra pronouncements do not require faith, but still require obedience.
What is wrong with being obedient to a law that you have no faith in? Don’t you still pay taxes even though you think the rates are unjustly high? Same thing.
Can you give an example of a non-ex-cathedra Papal Bull that offends your sensibilities?
I object to those to publish proofs and illustrate passages of their Christianity with OT passages. Christ was pointed to in the OT, but one cannot generate a complete picture of Jesus from the OT, as many do on FR.
Here Jesus Christ is telling His Disciples that the Old Testament was all about Him. I believe I culled passages exclusively from the Prophets, who Jesus said were talking about Him. Exactly what is causing your distress?
Many antiCatholics rely on OT verses for their beliefs, rather than Christ Himself. If you are of the belief that the Gospels are for Christians and that Paul is a beloved bishop of the Church, then I will apologize for seeming umbrage.
You didn’t find the assumption of Mary in that response.
“serving Satan” Please read Mark 13:19-23, The Holy Spirit protects the Church, 2,000 years and counting!
>> Or are you going to tell us your popes are wrong?<<
First of all they are NOT my popes. I am not RC. Second, yep, I would say the popes are wrong in many things.
>> Great is the Baptism that lies before you<<
Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Water baptism is a symbol of what has already happened at the time you accepted Jesus as Lord and savior.
Is the rapture in the Bible?
If there was a sudden rapture, wouldn’t those “left behind” understand immediately that they were wrong, realize there is a God and believe?
Sort of removes any need for faith.
Also, God has never removed believers from the consequences fo sin. Often they were the first to show up and help mop up, bringing people to christ in the process.
I don’t believe in a rapture as it has been explained by the churches who preach it.
The plain things are the main things.
this is a 16th century invention, the Church taught and Cyril was a Catholic Bishop that there is one baptism for the remission of sins ( Acts 22:16 ), the Nicene Creed affirmed this doctrine. You receive the Holy Spirit in baptism. What kind of Church is it that doesn’t understand baptism for 1,500 years, yet was given the Holy Spirit to lead it to all truth?? think man, stop worrying about Mary!!
more nonsense.
The apostle Paul says: “Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle” (2 Thessalonians 2:15, KJV)
This is some biblical evidence for the importance of holding non-biblical (i.e. non-epistle) beliefs.
you are a “sola scriptura” believer, want to take a crack at post #492, something tells me you will extend the baptist lead to 3-0? where are the lutherans??
