The Not So Secret Rapture

Evangelical book catalogs promote books such as Planet Earth: The Final Chapter, The Great Escape, and the Left Behind series. Bumper stickers warn us that the vehicle’s occupants may disappear at any moment. It is clear that there is a preoccupation with the idea of a secret rapture. Perhaps this has become more pronounced recently due to the expectation of a new millennium and the fears regarding potential Y2K problems. Perhaps psychologically people are especially receptive to the idea of an imminent, secret rapture at the present time. Additionally, many Christians are not aware that any other position relative to the second coming of Jesus Christ exists. Even in Reformed circles there are numerous people reading these books. Many of these people are unaware that this viewpoint conflicts with Scripture and Reformed Theology.

You forgot to post this from your link....

“However, the largest insurer of the Catholic Church was silent on the subject.

Midwestern Catholic dioceses formed their own Nebraska-based nonprofit insurance group in 1896, now called the Catholic Mutual Group, which is the provider to 111 out of 195 U.S. Catholic dioceses. Catholic Mutual’s counsel, Tim Augustine, declined comment on sexual-abuse claims.”

I thought they put them in prison immediately.

Apparently not if you can cop a plea. It's the system.

INDEED.

Though I grow weary of threads wherein the RC’s particularly but not always alone . . . seem soooooo

intent

on Olympic level ****-ing contests . . . with acid for liquid.

There has to be SOMEthing worth more than this sort of behavior.

There’s no organized system with a top down heirarchy in place as in the Catholic church, protecting any of these individuals.

I thought you said he was arrested. If he was arrested for child molestation it would be revealed by a background check necessary to work with children at the new church.

Was he arrested or not?

Apparently Judith, the truth will not set everyone free! I guess if it's not done by priests, it's not really abuse!

Tired of casting your pearls yet?

That’s right. A registered sex offender will not be allowed near children and if found again, will be imprisoned.

And still the question remains of why the Catholic church has not dealt with it in the thousands of years of its history.

Why have they not followed Paul’s instructions to purge the evil from within them?

Pointing fingers and blame shifting is *casting pearls*?

Strange pearls Catholic have.

Quix, we know our house is on fire, and we've got the bucket brigade going, but some of y'all seem to think ignoring the smoke poring out of some of your houses will make it go away.

I would think that Christians would help each other out when it comes to rooting out sin and evil from one another midst rather than reviling in agony of your brethren.

I’m not at all in favor of reveling in anyone’s sin or pain regardless of Christian brother or sister or not.

I think what . . . troubles to outrages so many Proddys is the virtually constant rationalizing and the extreme scarcity of even as much admission as you just made.

It’s virtually ALWAYS—circle the wagons, DENY, DENY, DENY AND RATIONALIZE RATIONALIZE RATIONALIZE AND THEN CRUCIFY THE MESSENGER AND BLAME PRODDYS.

We get extremely weary to outraged of such a chronic year in and year out pattern.

And some are annoyed enough to finally stand up and scream a bit on our own.

You asked for evidence, it was provided. No one, other than you seem to be pointing fingers or shifting blame. The Catholic Church seems to be the only church that acknowledges a problem and as put forward, publicly a variety of policies and programs designed to address the problem. A Catholic would have to be crazy to claim that abuse wasn't and in some places may still be a problem.

Not sure how that is shifting blame and acknowledging that truth; that abuse isn't a uniquely Catholic problem, is hardly finger pointing.

Yes, churches as well as other organizations are held to the law of the land. If the church in question, called the police and had this guy arrested, dismissed him, they did what was right.

The fact that he "cops a plea" and is charged with something besides child molesting, is not the church's fault.

They cant legally go around saying that this guy is a child molester when he hasnt been charged as such.
