Evangelical book catalogs promote books such as Planet Earth: The Final Chapter, The Great Escape, and the Left Behind series. Bumper stickers warn us that the vehicles occupants may disappear at any moment. It is clear that there is a preoccupation with the idea of a secret rapture. Perhaps this has become more pronounced recently due to the expectation of a new millennium and the fears regarding potential Y2K problems. Perhaps psychologically people are especially receptive to the idea of an imminent, secret rapture at the present time. Additionally, many Christians are not aware that any other position relative to the second coming of Jesus Christ exists. Even in Reformed circles there are numerous people reading these books. Many of these people are unaware that this viewpoint conflicts with Scripture and Reformed Theology.

If Catholics really believe this, then this list condemns every Catholic I have personally met.
Galatians 5:16-26 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
They felt condemned in their hearts that what they were doing was sin but excused it by appealing to the priest's actions.
Therefore is was sin for them to do it because it wasn't done in faith.
You were saying?
What are your credentials to make that statement?
Nicotine Addiction

What causes nicotine addiction?
Nicotine is an addictive drug. It causes changes in the brain that make people want to use it more and more. In addition, addictive drugs cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. The good feelings that result when an addictive drug is present and the bad feelings when it’s absent make breaking any addiction very difficult. Nicotine addiction has historically been one of the hardest addictions to break.
My f-i-l was dying from emphysema as result of smoking.
My b-i-l now has if for the same reason.
Matter of fact, everyone I know who has/had emphysema, smoked.
Not everyone who smokes, gets emphysema, but virtually everyone with emphysema, smoked.
My allergist told me smoking was the one factor that that made the difference.
Good luck with that.
Emphysema in families often has a genetic component.
Yes, Dr. JA....
Whatever you say.
I am not a doctor. Nor do I play one on the internet. This research is not new, nor is it a secret.
One other thing I’ve learned about Catholics after living and working with them, is that nobody can tell them anything.
Emphysema is a slow, horrible way to die. My kids, watching their grandfather slowly suffocate to death, vowed to never smoke.
If you want to count on its running in families as protection against it, by all means, nobody is stopping you.
Delude yourself.
“Emphysema in nonsmokers: alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency and other causes.
Lee P, Gildea TR, Stoller JK.
Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, OH 44195, USA.
Abstract
Nonsmokers with signs of emphysema at an earlier age than is typical for emphysema deserve a workup for one of the less common causes of emphysema, which include alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, connective tissue diseases, hypocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis syndrome, intravenous drug use, human immunodeficiency virus infection, and several rare metabolic disorders.”

You won’t be able to get the entire article. But the abstract makes it clear.
I never said it didn’t happen in non-smokers.
The incidence is much higher in smokers.
Have at it if you wish.
I’ll pass and breathe.
This is also explanatory and interesting if you have time to read it.
“Genetic epidemiology of COPD
COPD is known to aggregate in families [35].
Although familial aggregation could be due to environmental
factors, there is considerable evidence
in favour of a genetic basis for COPD.”

I saw a 79 year old female who smoked two to two and one-half packs of king size cigarettes daily. No COPD. None present. This was a lifelong smoker. She was also parolled after decades in prison so her nutrition, exercise, and whatever other factors contribute to good health were missing.
Go figure! ( -;
Anyone who would like some accurate information about emphysema instead of hysterical made up anecdotes can go here:
http://www.enotes.com/public-health-encyclopedia/emphysema
Obviously I was talking to metmom when I said that about hysterical made up anecdotes. I’ve seen lots of emphysema cases, but they’re usually called COPD, lol.
And there are plenty of smokers who never get sick, too. No explanation for it except heredity, that I know of.
What? You quit making sense again.
For later reading...
add to that my father, my brother, one of my best friends. Watching someone die of emphysema and lung cancer is horrible
There’s a genetic factor.
The other interesting one is mesothelioma. That also has a strong genetic component but you’d never know it from the lawyers’ commercials around here.
“Did you work in the shipyard? You may have MESOTHELIOMA!”
Those commercials, such logic, ie “Did you or someone you know die from “name of disease”
” Did you or someone you know die from name of disease”
LOLOLOL! I know. Brain trusts there.
