I was not able to watch all of the Papal Mass in the Vatican Basilica, but I have started to get interesting emails about something people noticed.
Among them was this email from a priest in Rome:
In a change to former practice, those distributing Holy Communion at the Holy Fathers Mass tonight were told that at all Papal Masses Communion is to be given only on the tongue. The usual statement that Prelates receive in the same way as the Laity remained. thought you might be interested.
Yes, indeed.
One of the emails from people watched the Mass said:
Did you notice that during the communion of the faithful during Pope Benedicts Midnight Mass at least one priest refused to give Holy Communion on the hand? Instead, the security guard near this priest motioned for each communicant to receive on the tongue. If the communicants didnt get the hint, the priest still did not give them the Host in the hand, but rather held It near their mouth until they finally understood. Some of the people looked very surprised when they held their hands out and didnt get the Host.
This was apparently noticeble during the broadcast.

I just finished reading this and then saw your ping. Great story!
Awesome, and, as it should be. In the hand is not reverent enough, and it’s origin was, IIRC, heretical. Even the American branch of the Roman Catholic Church should disallow it, but that’s my silly opinion.
Heretical?
Does this mean that we can soon expect the return of indulgences?
True indulgences never left.
Here is a Youtube evidence that shows without any doubt that, while some priests refused to give in the hand, others (to the right) were placing the Hosts into the hands.
Another "eyewitness" account debunked.
I have heard rumors that Communion will soon be given by mouth only.
I like it.
Melchior, there are plenary and partial indulgences, and have been for many more years than either you or I have been alive. If you’re trying to make a none-too-veiled allusion to something related to, say 95 “theses,” I’d have to say that I didn’t think that you leaned that way.
Seriously, Holy Communion on the tongue is more appropriate and reverent. Considering the ever-present Catholic belief that the Holy Eucharist is Our Lord, body, blood, soul and divinity, whyever would we not want to be reverent?
I suggest that you spend 30 seconds googling the Church’s position on the profanation that occurs should the host be dropped.
We who believe, “And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke: and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat. This is my body. And taking the chalice, he gave thanks, and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this. For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins.” take it very seriously, as well as literally.
I seen both in my church Marshmallow
I prefer by hand that just me
A few years back while getting ready for Mass and our water pipes broke and they had to turn the water off. Now all I will say is I needed to wash my hands to be ready to go out and couldn’t. Then I remembered we had a gallon of water in a jug in the kitchen closet, so I was able to freshen up. But since I received communion in the hand I had decided if I couldn’t freshen up I was not going to receive our Lord’s body by hand and would received Holy Communion on the tongue, even though everything worked out from that point on I started receiving Holy Communion on the tongue. After that I just started looking at receiving differently than before.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
And at the last supper did Christ place the bread in each disciple’s mouth?
Well, it's still pretty customary among Middle Easterners, both Israeli and Arab . . . not a modern American custom, though . . .
I think it is a disgrace that other people are allowed to give it out.

Did you not understand the context which was given, for the Catholic belief, as stated? To answer your attempted retort directly, I wasn’t there. Not quite that old. If all you’re after is mockery, I can’t help you. If you’re genuinely seeking knowledge, I gave you the keys to the car. You’ll need to figure out how to use them yourself. Sincerely, here’s a great place to find out more about what Catholics truly believe:

Other than that, I have kids to raise, and more fun than to spend a Sunday night than just responding to you. God Bless.
So the first communion was in hand.
