Bishop Stephen S.Talmage, Grand Canyon Synod ELCA, sent a letter to synod pastors stating that Shepherd of the Hills, Fountain Hills, AZ was removed from synod rolls, December 11, 2010 because of their dual affiliation with the LCMC. Their pastor, Steve Berges, resigned from the ELCA clergy roster as well.
It is quite amazing that ELCA congregations across the country are being held to the constitution of the national church body when it comes to voting. Yet, the rules for congregations holding dual membership in other Lutheran bodies are enforced differently from synod to synod. Literally hundreds of ELCA congregations now hold dual membership in the LCMC and/or the NALC. The ELCA's lack of uniformity in imposing penalties on congregations could provide a good legal argument in court if and when the ELCA tries to keep congregations from leaving with their property.

Since the ELCA intends to make it more difficult to leave the ELCA, every congregation who is contemplating leaving the ELCA should take action before the next CWA. And if it is apparent that the majority wants to leave, they should consider joining LCMC, NALC, etc.
Joining another church body only requires a majority vote, and there isn’t a requirement to actually leave the ELCA first.

This is certainly a “Plan B” for congregations intent on leavinng the ELCA but which fail to reach the 2/3 majority of voting members present threshold for disassociation votes.
Only a simple majority is required to affiliate with the LCMC.
When and where will the next CWA be held? I hope that the pro-gay resolutions will be repealed, but that probably wont’ happen.
I'm not Lutheran but the best advice I have for Lutherans is for them to leave the ELCA. If they have Ok Pro-gay stuff then they have probably OK a bunch of other stuff also unbiblical in their Constitution. The ELCA denomination has probably become like the Democrats in that they believe its ok to lie to you if their objective are meant.

You are correct on your guesses about ELCA.
It’s pretty much like most of the other denominations - the biggest “community” of the denomination in the US is a liberal one. I can hardly think of any US denomination, except perhaps Baptist or Catholic, which has a predominently “conservative” major organization.
And the second majority vote can authorize giving nary a nickel to the ELCA or that church's regional ELCA snyod. Let's see how eager the ELCA would be to keep spending money sending denominational propaganda to the non-supportive church.
The next Churchwide Assembly will be held in August 2011 in Orlando.
All of the “Voting Members” from the 65 Synods were elected at their 2010 Synod Assemblies.
And plenty of liberal causes du jour in their relentless political advocacy.

The charge is that Reverend Brian Shipsides and the Reverend Elwon John were part of a conspiracy to help several Nigerians evade British immigration laws by performing fake marriages.
The artcle brought back some unpleasant memories. My wife is a legal immigrant from Tanzania. It is deeply distressing to us that there are members of the clergy willing to use their positions to help break US immigration laws through such contrivances as "sanctuary churches" and sham marriages.
The ELCA is a denomination prides itself on supporting illegal aliens in the US and in calling for "immigration reform". Yet when my wife and I requested help in obtaining a visa for my wife (we had just been married in her home country of Tanzania and were struggling mightily with the US Embassy in Dar es Salaam) the ELCA ignored our requests for assistance. As one fellow ELCA missionary put it, if my wife had been an illegal alien from Latin America the ELCA would have fallen over itself to help us. But because she was a legal immigrant, the ELCA could not have cared less, even though we were their missionaries.
Time has caused most of my anger to dissipate, although probably it will never go away entirely. But the fact remains that the ELCA is less a Christian church than a radical secular political party run for the benefit of the greedy few. The ELCA cares most about political causes. People, not so much.
