Earth: Rock of Ages or Young Planet?
Inspire Tomorrow ^ | Dec. 15, 2010 | Rosemarie Thompson

“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day.” (Exodus 20:11a KJV)

According to evolutionary scientists, the earth is over 4 billion years old; but Biblical chronology dates the age of the earth at about 6,000 years. In an attempt to reconcile the two extreme positions, many creation scientists have used 2 Peter 3:8 to state that the six days mentioned in the Genesis account were not literal 24-hour days. However, if we used the “a day is as a thousand years” formula, we would have the six days of creation plus the day of rest equaling 7,000 years, at most. Hardly a good reconciliation with 4 billion years. So, how old is the earth?...

"Never said he was infallable, but the Scripture on the other hand...Take your pick, who do you trust for your salvation, God or Man?"

Is the pope a Christian? Many fundies think he isn't. Are you one who doesn't think the pope trusts God for his salvation?

You are trying to make a claim based on a faulty assumption.

.........................Your assumption is based on writings thousands of years old. There are other writing thousands of years old that refute your assumptions.I try not to assume anything yet am open minded enough not to exclude anything. How did all other civilization exist and prosper with no knowledge of the bible.Every culture has in it it's own belief system for that culture. For Jews and Gentiles it was/is the bible, for others, not so much. For every civilization there is a belief system that promises eternal life of some form or fashion.

Honestly, evolutionists and old-earthers have to believe a lot of abject, completely unsubstantiated nonsense to hold to what they believe. I mean, seriously, what kind of a dolt thinks that life developed from non-life, completely at odds with pretty much everything we know about the laws of physical and organic chemistry? What kind of an idiot would think that the earth is billions of years old - all on the basis of demonstrably erroneous dating methods which rely on completely unsubstantiated assumptions?

Good grief, if anyone needs made fun of, it's the evos and OECs.

Pretty much sums it up!

"Before their sin in the Garden, there was no death in the world"

Correction:"Before their sin in the Garden, there was no spiritual death in the world"

Therefore, what is written down is not necessarily infallible truth

My salvation lies in Jesus, the Christ,

How do you know you have salvation? Where did you get the knowledge that you are saved?

If the Bible is in error, then where does your salvation lay? Can’t have it both ways, either the Scripture is whole and not in error or it’s in error and not to be trusted.

Since most or all of the originals of the Books of the Bible do not exist, and there are tons of 'translations' and 'versions', then it is just logical that some 'conflict' can be found.

However, the 'trust' is to be found not in the details, but in the concepts.

While everyone argues over the details, the concepts are there, always have been, and have never changed. The concepts in the Bible relate to man - on a daily basis, on a lifetime basis, and on the lifetime of entire mankind (everything comes in threes).

And yet... as clear as these concepts are, they are ignored while we argue about details that make no conceivable difference for the happiness and well-being of mankind.

If you’re willing to trust your Salvation to a God who can’t even keep His word whole and who allows errors to creep in when men take it down, then you’re better than me.

I tend to see this fairly simply. If God is Soverign and cannot lie, and I do believe He this is true, then His word to us is going to be completely true, in all aspects. My Salvation is based upon my ability to trust the One who authored it. That trust is based upon His past record of faithfulness. If His word is in error, then He has not been faithful to maintain it to us.

I do not doubt your salvation, but I do wonder if you’ve thought about what your salvation is based upon.

I honestly don’t know if the Pope is a Christian or not. He’s the leader of a Church which has some very serious false teaching in it, so I don’t know what to think about him other than he’s a man just like the rest of us. His opinion is just like everyone else’s; flawed at times.

If he holds that evolution is true, then he’s in error as the Scripture itself disagrees with evolution. Death didn’t occur before sin, so until the Fall, there was no death to prompt evolution.

They are better off believing aliens seeded the planet a long time ago then to indulge in nonsense about evolution.

If we believed that we would be worse off as the UN would want to send those aliens $100 billion for our wanton destruction of their jobsite.

Recent scientific discoveries are even placing doubts on the old-earth theory. The 4 billion year age of earth is based on radioactive dating, which uses the decay rates of radioactive materials, assumed to be constant, to assess age. However, in 2009, scientists discovered that the decay rates are not constant, but are affected by seasons and solar activity.2 Additionally, in two similar experiments, scientists took lava samples from known volcanic eruptions from Mount Ngauruhoe in New Zealand3 and Mount St. Helens4 in Washington state and had them analyzed using radioactive dating. In both instances, the rocks were aged in the millions of years, not the actual age of 25-50 years.

So if I take a piece of rock, melt it, and let it re-solidify it will then be "brand new" rock - having just been "created".

And you can back this up with Scripture where?

Chapter and verse, or it doesn’t exist.

"Death didn’t enter until after the fall, so if there’s no death, there’s no fossils."

CORRECTION: "There are fossils because there was physical death before the fall. Spiritual death didn’t enter until after the fall from innocence."

You can't even get this right. Their suitability as a mate was NOT the reason they were brought before Adam.

OK. Only some versions say mate. The KJV below uses 'meet'. hmm. Seems that God made the animals ONLY AFTER finding out Adam was without a 'meet'.

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

Hmm, concepts not details eh?

Fine. Christ didn’t rise, he’s still in the grave.

Still think details aren’t important?

You still failed to see what Adam’s job was. It wasn’t to find a mate/helpmeet but to name the animals. To say that God was having Adam check the animals for a mate just shows that I’m dealing with a reprobate who thinks God would condone beastiality.

We’re done here, but you may want to ask yourself why you believe what you believe.

Most of what you say is based on fundamental ignorance. The Jews, who wrote the Bible, do not count time from the creation of the universe. They count it from the creation of the Neshama, the soul of human life, or the creation of the soul of Adam. On Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, Jews blow the Shofar three times during the Musaf service, and proclaim, “Hayom Harat Olam - today is the birthday of the world.”

Nor does the Bible say that Pi is equal to 3. The text reads, “And he [Hiram] made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one rim to the other it was round all about, and...a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about....And it was an hand breadth thick....” — First Kings, chapter 7, verses 23 and 26

Using eighteen inches as one cubit, that gives an outer diameter of 180 inches and an outer radius of 90 inches. The bowl was a hand breadth thick, or 4 inches, so the inner radius is 86 inches and the inner circumference is 540 inches. The circumference formula is C = 2(pi)r, which gives us:

540 = 2(pi)(86)
540 = 172(pi)

Solving, we get pi = 540/172 = 135/43 = 3.1395348837, or about 3.14.

How close did the Jews need to be?

Who says it’s not to be taken literally? After all, the same One who says “I am God and besides me there is no other” is the same One who said He labored six days and rested.

If you don’t believe all of it, you don’t get to believe any of it, after all, it was all given by the same author.

Agreed!
