It would probably be much more loving of them to just turn a blind eye and let others wake up in hell. Of course those who get there will then being crying, "why for God's sake and my sake didn't somebody love me enough to tell me the truth."
I think the Bible says the days will come when people will call "evil good, and good evil." Apparently they are upon us!
Oh, so the Pope is not referred to by Catholics as “The Holy Father?” I never knew that! And you mean Catholic priest are never referred to as “father.” Guess Jesus didn’t really mean what He said. If He didn’t mean what He said here, how credible is anything else He said? Just another example of how Catholic’s distort and violate the Scriptures. Wonder if anyone ever kissed the Popes hand or feet. I’m sure they have and what’s more I’m sure he allowed it.
RE: yeah, it’s real bigoted of folk who attempt to keep others out of the flames of hell
LOL...that you God?
It amazes me the level of pride manifested by some folks.
The KJV translators used the 'original language' to translate the KJV...
Then how come the original language shows those two instances being two completely different terms, yet they are translated the same?
The understanding of ancient languages evolves and grows over time and it illuminates a lot more of the text as our knowledge grows, especially adding in cultural contexts.
LOL....Not God, just His messenger. “If they called the Master Beelzebubb, how much more will they His followers?” Jesus was accused of bigotry as well, I rejoice to be likewise accused. What’s more, when I’m being attacked, I’m not being faithful to His call. I’ve counted the cost! I’ve taken the oath of office and enlisted in His army. When folk refer to me as a bigot, I take it as a witness to the truth of God’s Word. For “all who live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” They will be mocked, ridiculed, scorn, and laughed at. It comes with the territory and my Master warned me of such men. Bring it own, for “I know in Whom I have belived.” Your accusations only strenghthen my resolve and determination to release this fire God has shut up in my bones. He has been preparing me thirty years for this day! Yea, so bring it on! Yeah, “fear not those who are able to kill the body, but fear Him who is able to cast both body and soul in hell.” Yeah, bring it on! The Word of God is my offense and defense. I stand not on the foundation any church nor man made teachings, but on the Living Written Word of God, yeah, bring it on!
How in the world is this discussion/debate over language and translation a fight of 'good versus evil'? Sure, it gets heated (that's how FReepers are) but those who like to use X or Y aren't evil. I have a strong faith that everyone here, be they Baptist, Roman Catholic, Presbatistlutherian, or whatever, all have a real relationship with God, no matter how much we get passionate about our argument de'jour. Takes some big balls to equate the other side with actual 'evil'.
RE: LOL....Not God, just His messenger.
You are full of yourself aren’t you.
Get behind me Satan.
Not at all full of self as you judge, but full of God’s Word as I have devoured it like a mad-man for thirty-years and know what it says. I don’t need a church nor a man to tell me what it says. I’ve done the study for myself, and “God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” You don’t know me from Adam! It’s in God’s Word that you find and put on the “mind of Christ.” When you spend enough time in it, you too will begin to hear through His ears, see through His eyes, and understand through His mind. You’ll learn to discern good and evil, truth and error. God’s Word is all sufficient for these things. By the way, I’m made no reference to Bible versions, but to the teachings of the catholic church.
RE: Not at all full of self as you judge, but full of Gods Word as I have devoured it like a mad-man for thirty-years
Seems more like someone has devoured a mouth full of Satan droppings my friend. Nothing I have seen presented has impressed me. All I see is mindless banter without any intellectual vigor. Frankly, I’m embarrassed for you.
So now you are saying that Catholics are going to hell? You finally said what I knew you had been wanting to say since last night. Thank you for finally being honest.
I honestly do not think the “father” issue is a valid argument, except that one is not a father by title except to those they have fathered. Paul himself referred to himself as a father, and called Timothy his son, as well as the Corinthians (1Cor. 4:14,17; 1Tim. 1:2; 2Tim. 1:2; 2:1), and unlike Rome’s hermeneutic, the epistles interpret the gospels.
But as for the pope being like Peter, according to these that has historical disagreement:
“It is quite certain that Popes have never disapproved or rejected this title ‘Lord God the Pope’ for the passage in the gloss referred to appears in the edition of the Canon Law published in Rome by Gregory XIII.” Statement from Fr. A. Pereira.
“Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God....dissolves, not by human but rather by divine authority....I am in all and above all, so that God Himself and I, the vicar of God, hath both one consistory, and I am able to do almost all that God can do...wherefore, if those things that I do be said not to be done of man, but of God, what do you make of me but God? Again, if prelates of the Church be called of Constantine for gods, I then being above all prelates, seem by this reason to be above all gods.” Decretales Domini Gregori ix Translatione Episcoporum, (on the Transference of Bishops), title 7, chapter 3; Corpus Juris Canonice (2nd Leipzig ed., 1881), col. 99; (Paris, 1612), tom. 2, Decretales, col. 205 (while Innocent III was Pope).
“We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God....dissolves, not by human but rather by divine authority....I am in all and above all, so that God Himself and I, the vicar of God, hath both one consistory, and I am able to do almost all that God can do...Wherefore, no marvel, if it be in my power to dispense with all things, yea with the precepts of Christ.” Decretales Domini Gregori ix Translatione Episcoporum, (on the Transference of Bishops), title 7, chapter 3; Corpus Juris Canonice (2nd Leipzig ed., 1881), col. 99; (Paris, 1612), tom. 2, Decretales, col. 205 (while Innocent III was Pope).
“We confess that whatever new thing the Pope ordains, rather it be in Scriptures or not in Scripture, and whatever he commands is true, divine and salvific; and therefore ought to be held by Lay People in greater esteem than the living God.” Roman Catholic Confessions for Protestants Oath, Article IV, (Confessio Romano-Catholica in Hungaria Evangelicis publice praescripta te proposita, editi a Streitwolf), as recorded in Congressional Record of the U.S.A., House Bill 1523, Contested election case of Eugene C. Bonniwell, against Thos. S. Butler, Feb. 15, 1913.
“It is error to believe that, if the Pope were a reprobate and an evil man and consequently a member of the devil, he has no power over the faithful.” Council of Constance, Condemnation of Errors, against Wycliffe, Session VIII, and Hus: Session XV; DNZ:621, 617, 588, (quoted in Apostolic Digest, by Michael Malone, Book 5: “The Book of Obedience”, Chapter 1: “There is No Salvation Without Personal Submission to the Pope”).
..whether it be possible for him (the Pope) to err or not, is to be obeyed by all the faithful.” St. Robert Bellarmine, De Romano Pontifice, pt. 5, (quoted in Apostolic Digest, by Michael Malone, Book 5: “The Book of Obedience”, Chapter 1: “There is No Salvation Without Personal Submission to the Pope”).
Luke 18:And we see the perfect example of this and pointing fingers at someone else in post 52!
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
“Know-nothings” — a very apt description, and strangely enough it was a term that this group of idiots chose for themselves!
Blame Jerome ...
The NIV is an explicitly Protestant translation. The deuterocanonical books are not included in the translation. It preserved traditional Evangelical theology on many contested points ... Apart from these theological issues, the manuscript base of the NIV is similar to the RSV, using older Greek New Testament texts rather than the later Textus Receptus. What know-nothings can't get their minds around is that the NIV (which is much more accurate to the ORIGINAL Greek and Aramaic) seems to them similar to the Douay-Rheims.
The range of those participating included over twenty different denominations such as Baptists, Evangelicals, Methodists, Lutherans, Anglicans, and more
The text used for the Old Testament was the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia Masoretic Hebrew Text. Other ancient texts consulted were the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Aquila, Symmachus and Theodotion, the Latin Vulgate, the Syriac Peshitta, the Aramaic Targum, and for the Psalms the Juxta Hebraica of Jerome. The text used in translating the New Testament was the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament.
