Ex-LDS seminary principal gets 5-to-life for abusing student
Salt Lake Tribune ^ | Sept. 20, 2010 | Donald W. Meyers

Posted on 09/20/2010 4:23:53 PM PDT by Colofornian

American Fork » Former LDS seminary principal Michael Jay Pratt will spend at least five years in prison for sexually abusing a student 20 years younger than himself.

Fourth District Judge Christine Johnson imposed concurrent sentences of five years to life in prison for first-degree felony forcible sodomy and two object rape charges, and one to 15 years for forcible sexual assault, a second-degree felony. Johnson said it was a sentence that best balanced the needs of justice and mercy in a case that carried heavy religious overtones.

Pratt pleaded guilty to the crimes in June as part of an agreement in which prosecutors dropped 11 other charges.

Pratt’s attorney, Stephen McCaughey, sought to get Pratt two years in the Utah County Jail followed by a lengthy probation. He said Pratt had no prior criminal record, and the case did not involve violence or physical force. McCaughey argued Pratt would likely serve about six years in prison on the charges.

Pratt said he was sorry for what he had done, and was given enough time to hug his wife before he was escorted from the courtroom by sheriff’s deputies.

Johnson said Pratt’s position as a teacher and spiritual adviser at Lone Peak High School placed him in a position of trust which he abused.

The victim and her family also told the court how Pratt had gained their trust as a dedicated, popular teacher and church leader who was helping the victim through a rough spot in life. He then manipulated the victim into going along with his sexual fantasies.

“Justice was served, but it is a tragedy,” the victim’s stepfather said after the hearing.

So now you plead for respect...

Well of course!

After all the "peep stone prophet" and his merry band was so respectful to their "fellow Chrsitians"...

My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right — and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong, and the personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight: that those professors were all corrupt . . ." (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, vol. 1, p. 5-6).

"We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense.... Myself and hundreds of the Elders around me have seen its pomp, parade, and glory; and what is it? It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; and the Devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, 1858, p. 167).

"And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth" (1 Nephi 14:10).

"And when the day cometh that the wrath of God is poured out upon the mother of harlots, which is the great and abominable church of all the earth, whose foundation is the devil, then, at that day, the work of the Father shall commence. . ." (1 Nephi. 14:17).

As a good Mormon, honest to a fault, perhaps you will tell me to which of my posts you wish to direct that passage in scriptures. Put another way, in your judgment to which of my postings would you direct that scripture passage?

Oh Spiff, you know that is the most oft misused verse by the enemies of Christianity, as if they are trying to turn the faith in on themselves.

A Christian who knows the Bible, (which IS translated correctly) knows that pertains to fellow Christians who are acting in a hypocritical manner, we are not to judge the hearts of our brothers and sisters in the family of Christ

HOWEVER...

We can judge actions and also teachings and doctrine that are false or contrary to the Word of God...

JOHN 7:14: “Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

LUKE 12:57: “Yea, and why not even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?”

PSALM 37:30: “The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.”

PROVERBS 31:9: “Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.”

LUKE 17:3: “Take heed... If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent,

2 Peter 2:1-3 but there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovreign Lord who bought them - bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping”

1 John 4:1 “dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world”

1 Timothy 4:1-8 1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Spiff, did you not judge all otehr faiths when you either joined or decided as an adult to stay with the LDS?

Did you not Judge the very post you responded to in order to formulate your response.

Righteous judgment of the words, teachings and doctrines of others is perfectly allowable by God.

I find that whining about "disrespect" by a mormon is laughable in light of the 52,000 missionaries going out daily and "disrespecting" the faith of Christians by claiming to have the "only true path to salvation".

arrogance on display

Apparently you have zero idea what these passages are about.
I can judge you. I can not judge your heart.
However I am commanded to judge everything against the Word of God.
So go back actually read what these verses are about in context.

I suspect spaceman spiff didn’t like my pointing out the truth about the peepstone sexual predator self-proclaimed prophet who founded the Mormonism religion. But I also suspect this fine upstanding Mormon trying to run to the defense of his prophet will not venture to explain the basis of his judging my post that went into his coice of scripture passage. It’s kind of like the twentieth century English ownership of a Bible ... must have one on display in your living room, even carry one in your car perhaps, but to open it and read it? Why that’s excessive don’tchaknow.

If you really want to know (which I doubt) what Mormons actually believe, you should read the LDS Articles of Faith. However, I will not publish them here because the anti Mormons love to blaspheme, desecrate, and use them for toilet paper.

“Different Jesus, different Christ. “

Hi, Syncro! You are right. Your Jesus and your Christ are different from mine. Your Jesus is condemning and small. My Jesus loves me, accepts me, and is my Very Best Friend. He is my Savior and I love Him with all my heart. My Jesus is the Head of the Church. My Jesus was sent by His Father to suffer and die on the cross to save me from my sins. My Christ is the Anointed One of Israel.

By the way, the word “trinity” is not found in any version of the Bible. It is a man-made concept.

I believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen.

LDS Articles of Faith.

Tell us sd - where does this creed of yours cover these key doctrines or mormonism?

1. God was once a man and evolved into a god

2. Need for temple ordinances and special hand shakes to get into heaven

3. WoW.

Just a short list to get you started.

We Mormons love Jesus Christ with all our hearts. Stop saying that we don’t. Jesus Christ is our Savior, Lord, Redeemer, the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, and Savior of the New Testament.

Your Jesus is condemning and small. My Jesus loves me, accepts me, and is my Very Best Friend.

How is paying off your debt to this Jesus working SD.

He is my Savior and I love Him with all my heart.

MORONI 10:32: “Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.”

ALMA 45:16: “…for the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance.”

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 25:15: “Keep my commandments U>continually, and a crown of righteousness thou shalt receive. And except thou do this, where I am you cannot come.”

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 58:43: “By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will confess them and forsake them.”

ALMA 11:37: “And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.”

This is what your Jesus speaks to you SD, are you completely free of sin or do you have to continually repent and seek forgiveness (Joseph Smith said: “Repentance is a thing that cannot be trifled with every day. Daily transgression and daily repentance is not that which is pleasing in the sight of God.” —Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 148 ) Your Jesus says you must be completely free of sin BEFORE his grace can do anything for you SD - read the passages above from your 'scriptures' SD. Your Jesus cannot save you in your sin.

Elder Boyd K. Packer wrote in "Gospel Principles (1992) regarding your Jesus - "‘If I pay your debt, will you accept me as your creditor?’ ‘Oh yes, yes,’ cried the debtor. ‘You saved me from prison and show mercy to me.’ ‘Then,’ said the benefactor, ‘you will pay the debt to me and I will set the terms. It will not be easy, but it will be possible.”

How goes the payment of this debt as well as maintaining a sin free life by your merits SD? Have you done “all you can do” to pay your sin-debt to Jesus?

In the Book of Mormon, Jesus brought death and destruction with him to the Cross. In 3 Nephi, Chapters 8 and 9, it details the events testifying of Christ's crucifixion. It describes the desolation of the great city of Zarahemla by fire, and the city of Moroni "did sink into the sea and the inhabitants thereof were drowned... the earth was carried up upon the city of Mornihah...there was great and terrible destruction in the land southward......terrible destruction in the land northward....the highways were broken up....many great and noble cities were sunk and many burned and many shaken till the buildings thereof had fallen to the earth.....all these great and terrible things were done in the space of three hours."

Here are links to the Official LdS BoM chapters that detail these events:

3 Nephi 8

3 Nephi 9

3 Nephi, Chapter 9, tells of further wrath as the Lord also destroyed the cities and inhabitants of Gigal, Onihah, Mocum, Jerusalem, Gadiandi, Gadiomnah, Jacob, Gimgimmo, Jacobugath, Laman, Josh, Gad, and Kishkumen. (a total of 16 major cities) Who did all this killing to testify of our Lord's atonement on Calvary?

3 Nephi 9:15 reveals the murderer of approximately 2 million innocent inhabitants of the Book of Mormon lands, "Behold, I am Jesus Christ the son of God. I created the heavens and the earth and all things that in them are." He adds, (in verse 21), "behold, I have come unto the world to bring redemption unto the world to save the world from sin." I guess the easiest way was to kill almost every living creature; at least the vast majority of that portion of his "other sheep have I." This Jesus was a god of wrath, exercising some form of Old Testament Judgment by the one who was supposed to be the end of the law.

The Biblical Jesus cried out to His Father,

"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."

Source: Saints Alive

My, what a contrast.

2 Cor.11:3-5 tells us that there will be those who would teach a different Christ. Paul says of them, "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ".

Yet when shown the passages from the BoM of what a destructive, cruel and murderous christ you worship....crickets.

Why is that Sandy? It is recorded in the BoM that the mormon christ massacred 100's of thousands men, women and children (possibly millions) and destroyed at least 16, if not more cities.

Yet the Christ of the Bible pleaded for Father to "...forgive them for they know not what they do."?

Which Christ Sandy?

Which one is it that you worship again?

I've read them, SD.

And I found them to be untrue. I believe the bible is the Word of God, and the ONLY Word of God.

I prayed about it, and I researched it.

BTW, I know of NO ONE that would use the BOM or the A o F for TP. That's a lie from the devil.

Fair enough?
