Shouldn’t this be about “ex” Catholics? Most of us that have stayed have learned about our faith.
Thanks for posting this list..
thank you. While I do keep Fridays as meat-less (though in all honesty, it’s not that much of a sacrifice as I’m not much of a carnivore, I ought to do more), I didn’t know it was still mandatory
It’s the wider Catholic world where the teaching has been horrid that don’t know this stuff. And I don’t know anyone who has fallen away due to any of these points. It’s mostly been temporal, humanistic things and generally involves sex.
Thanks for posting. For some reason, in my area, there are a lot of Catholics who think that meat on Friday is now okay. I’ve stayed out of the controversy, and simply eaten fish or 15 bean soup, grilled cheese, meatless spaghetti, meatless pizza, whatever. Better safe than sorry, right?
Catechesis, especially in the United States, has been particularly horrid these last 30 years or so. The sad fact is that many self-designated “ex-Catholics” had been poorly taught about their faith.
I do not believe that there are ex-Catholics, but I do believe that there are many failed Catholics; those that failed to understand and embrace the Catechism and the entire revealed Word.
I wonder how many who call themselves “Catholic” really know these?
As a side note, approximately 1200 years after this decision was made, Martin Luther and the Protestant reformers removed 7 books from the Old Testament. As a result, most Protestant Bibles are still missing these 7 books.
Objection!
The guidelines set forth on the RM homepage clearly state that The caucus article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.
Because the above article clearly compares beliefs it should not be granted "Caucus" status. At best it should be changed to an Ecumenical thread.
I will now withdraw and await the RM's ruling.

Good Post.
I am so glad you posted this. After returning to the church, I thought that VCII had in fact done away with the Friday abstinence from meat. Then I found out that they had not, but did allow for a substitute penance of one’s choosing.
Since I prayed the rosary in front of an abortion clinic every Friday, I thought that fulfilled the obligation and continued to eat meat.
The abortion clinic closed (Praise God!)and I got a job and work Friday mornings and no longer pray there. But.....I continued to eat meat.
You have reminded me again and I will give up meat for Friday.
You are a great keeper of the faith, a true blessing for us all. Thanks be to God.
