Utah death-row inmate Ronnie Lee Gardner is set to be executed by a firing squad on Friday. Thirty-five states allow the death penalty, but death by firing squad remains an option only in Utah.

Every detail of April 2, 1985, is burned into her memory. Gardner was in court on a murder charge when he tried to escape. An accomplice slipped him a gun, and he shot and killed an attorney and also severely wounded George "Nick" Kirk, who was a bailiff. Kirk didn't die, but VelDean Kirk says he wasn't the same active, cheerful man anymore. She says his final years were marked by excruciating pain and depression from a sedentary life.
His daughter, Tami Stewart, feels sorry for Gardner, but she can't forgive him. She imagines him in the death chamber. "He's going to feel that fear that he put into every one of those men. He's done. We've given him more than enough," Stewart says.
Gardner did get one choice: how he would die. In court, after being told he'd exhausted his appeals, the 49-year-old made his preference known.
"I would like the firing squad, please," he told the court...

Utah historian Will Bagley says the reason this method of execution exists is rooted in Utah's history as a Mormon sanctuary. "I think we need to be honest about it. We have the last firing squads in the country as a legacy of Mormon theology," Bagley says.
Some early Mormon leaders believed in blood atonement for the most egregious sins. "To atone for those, Jesus' blood didn't count. You had to shed your own blood," Bagley says.

One is only saved by grace if they keep their covenants with the Lord elsewise they have no contract!
So far you did NOT endure to the end, you broke your covenant with the LORD, not with the Church, or members but with the Lord and now you murmur day in and day out!

The gospel is so arranged that principles and ordinances are received by covenant placing the recipient under strong obligation and responsibility to honor the commitment. Thus the severe consequences to Ananias and Sapphira, who deliberately broke their covenant and lied unto God (Acts 5: 1-11).
Words such as "false" "wrong" "error" are not "making it personal."

As a fellow elder, let me suggest that you calm down and act like an elder. Since you are an elder in a Presbyterian Church, this question should be easy to answer. Based on your theology, did your Mormon friend die in a state of salvation? As an elder in a Presbyterian Church, you must know that your church and every other orthodox Christian Church holds that Mormonism is a damnable heresy. If you answer that question honestly, it makes the tragedy of your friend's death even worse. It is a fate that we are trying to prevent other Mormons from suffering. How horrifying it must be on Judgement Day to have Jesus say "Depart from me. I never knew you."

But not satisfactorily, which is why the questions keep coming back. Mormons who desperately want to believe the pat answers accept some very weak and often illogical reasoning but skeptics are going to demand a higher level of proof. In most cases, the LDS "church" has never been able to provide this level of proof.

Regardless of religious affiliation, executing this skunk was the right thing to do. Good riddance, his judgement day is here (not by us, but by the man upstairs). That’s a good thing.

No. I wouldn't expect anyone to really knows his thought process. However, it is unrealistic to insist the Utah's firing-squad executions don't have anything to do with blood atonement. The current practice of firing-squad executions have a historical antecedent which is the doctrine of blood atonement.
In MY opinion, some folks get away with repeated forum-rule-breaking posts all the TIME, and then when THEY get BUSTED, they accuse someone of under-handed, sneaky actions.
I for one would just LOVE for the RF to be moderated fairly, with the same treatment to ALL...I haven't noticed the Inmans whining about moderation, (and we are not about to start) and we receive the lion's share of reprimands.
There are disruptors who claim to be non-mormon jumping in all the time to defend mormonism with posts that break forum rules. Perhaps the mormons should hit abuse on these folks, hmmm?
