Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

Mark, Christ did not have to go up to the mountain to be tempted as we are. He lived on this earth and was, as we all are, tempted daily.

The implication was that Christ needed to be tempted in order to understand us. That is a big big negative. God knows all and was, is and will ever be. He knows all. God did not have to be tempted to understand temptation. You guys have a rather interesting view of God.

God made Paul the primary teacher of the new church, Paul wrote exactly what the Holy Spirit inspired him to . If anyone has a problem with that..that is their eternal problem

I'd like you to stand back and look at this statement. This is a very good demonstration of what is wrong with the children of the Reformation. The primary teacher of the early Church (for three years) was Christ. Paul was a teacher. And bishop. But never a primary bishop. Does that gall those who worship Paul?

"Calvin's grave would be a shrine.

Oh, wait, no one knows where his grave is located in Geneva, per his instructions, because he didn't want any part of Rome's rituals of death."

Does that mean I can't adore Calvinus beer?

The so-called reformation wa a sever test of the Church. In the end, we won.

In the end, God wins. In the meantime, we still have to deal with the antiChristians that populate the world, and FR. It is no mistake that antiCatholics abound; as Lenin said, there are useful idiots to be found everywhere, even in the midst of what they should be everlastingly thankful for.

We have not come up with a Queen of heaven eternal virgin or an assumption or prayer to saints..whole cloth doctrine

Is this an admission that you guys routinely come up with your own doctrine?

They know nothing of the history of the reformation outside a few names.. one Catholic told me Luther left the church because he wanted to divorce his wife..

Unsubstantiated anecdotal evidence. I must say that Reformed doctrine is built on even less...

On second thought, I will give you the scripture so you can see/hear for yourself.

"And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken on word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, Saying Go unto this people and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed: lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it". (Acts 28:25-28)

Sounds familiar to me, in a blind, deaf, kind of way..

If God is with us who can stand against us?

Would you like to come join us? I'm sure it's clear by now you can't stand against us.

It's really not complicated just believe The Gospel. You will instantly see you're on the other side of the Cross.

LOLOL. Luther married a nun, Katharina, who gave him six children and they lived happily ever after.

Both of whom violated their oaths before God. I suspect that the happily ever after is not quite the term that they'd be using now.

So the Jews are no longer God's chosen people? Interesting. No wonder that the Jews view Evangelicals in a really really dim light.

lolol. Not only do you not know Christianity, you now seem not to grasp what your own church teaches.

Last time I checked, Rome believes (correctly - GASP) that all Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus Christ are God's chosen people.

Are you now rewriting even this fact?

Countries founded on the Protestant work ethic prosper because they elevate the role of the individual and his God-given conscience, while acknowledging that all work should be done for the glory of God and thus for the betterment of their fellow men.

Fantastic words. Let us examine them further. What is the most prosperous Western democracy now?

Canada. Highly Catholic.

What about the US? A Protestant President driving the country into the ground. Nope.

France? An improving economy.

Sweden? Nobody wants to live in Sweden now.

Germany? Better than the US, that's for sure.

England? No way.

Ireland? The fastest growing economy in Europe.

I congratulate you, Dr. E. Something of a triumph. You have found yet another way to be wrong.

Let us pray more Roman Catholic priests and nuns leave the fabricated chains of celibacy behind and find Godly joy in a marriage and children.

They'll be less likely to go looking for companionship in all those unsavory places many of them frequent.

Even Titanites misunderstood how your post was written and I can see why at first glance being in a hurrey how this happened. I do apologize for the misreading of your post though ,dear sister

Your post is still very inaccurate because you SEEM to be saying calvin was a forerunner in building hospitals-which is far from accurate since there were many Catholic Hospitals way before calvin was born.

Non Catholic hospitals have gone the way of protestant churches in allowing abortion and other atrocities,

There may be some hospitals who say they are catholic who do the same but they are not following church teaching like some so- called catholic universities do as well.

Catholics have dogmatic rules to follow,if they choose not to follow them they are excommunicating themselves. Protestants have no rules to follow other than self interpretation of whatever flawed mistranslated Bible they might be reading

all Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus Christ are God's chosen people.

Mark gleens just enough information and understanding to be dangerous. I was attempting to show him through Acts 28 that Israel becomes blinded and salvation is sent to the Gentiles. For to make of himself ONE NEW MAN of BELIEVING JEWS AND GENTILES> The Church the Body of Christ. Unbelieving Israel is indeed blinded until the Body of Christ is complete, we are raptured, and God once again turns His attention to Israel, the Nation during the Tribulation. I'm sorry for any confusion, I falsely assume Mark will read and study for himself. Maranatha!

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it". (Acts 28:25-28)

Amen

One of the failures of Israel has always been evangelism. The Apostles for all their great traits failed in this area and God scattered the Jerusalem church. The church following Pentecost remained focussed on Jews. Peter to his credit admitted this error after being given a revelation in Acts 10:13-15, but Jesus had already converted Paul and sent Anaanius.

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said to him, "Go for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel."

What about the US? A Protestant President driving the country into the ground. Nope.

Behold the honesty and wisdom of the Romanist.

Some people try to rise from rot and stupidity into enlightenment.

Others wallow in evil and stupidity, and try to pull others down with them.

I can only hope there is a special place in Hell for the wallowers who post here.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

lol. Your post is barren of any statistics; just loony and false opinions.

Protestantism is the majority religion in Germany.

It's about evenly divided between Protestants and Catholics in Canada.

France is Roman Catholic because Rome slaughtered all the Protestants 450 years ago. Even so, you can have France.

We'll take England, Sweden and the United States. Happily.

Your peculiar remark stating "Ireland is the fastest growing economy in Europe" is not supported by the facts.

According to the CIA Factbook, the list of countries by real GDP growth rate reveals that Ireland's GNP ranks 203rd and their GNP has actually declined 7.5% this past year.

Roman Catholic apologists just make things up.
