GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

I Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.

We don't need a go between between us and God because Jesus is that one.

Saying that Mary is a go between and an Advocate is blasphemy in no uncertain terms. She is NOT omnipotent, she is NOT a medatrix, she is NOT our Advocate.

That prayer by that man does not in so many words say *Mary is God* but attributing to her all the characteristics certainly does.

We come to Jesus on our own. We don't need to go through someone to get to Him.

Thank you however for admitting the truth about what the RCC teaches about Mary's position. But for the sake of your soul, go to the One who died for you, Jesus Christ. No one else can save. If you follow someone besides Jesus, you will end up in hell.

Thank you all for this interesting sidebar, dear brothers and sister in Christ!

False Christs and false prophets can be very persuasive:

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect. - Matt 24:24

But we can discern them by asking as Christ did (paraphrased) Who is Christ?

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. - 1 John 4:1-3

Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, [The Son] of David. - Matthew 22:42

That is because no creature can confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord which is to say, that Jesus Christ IS God - except by the Holy Spirit:

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. – I Cor 12:3

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. - Matthew 16:15

We Christians must not accept or assist any belief which denies that Jesus Christ is the Lord:

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. - 2 John 1:9-11

God's Name is I AM and Alpha and Omega.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. - Psalms 91:14

Who cares what the church faterhs thought?

If what they thought deviated from the plain clear meanijng of Scripture, they were wrong.

And since it’s documented that they disagreed with each other, then which church father do you believe? The one who supports what you want to hear the most?

Jesus strongly condemned the traditions of men and constantly appealed to Scripture saying, “It is written”. He especially condemned putting them above Scripture like the Pharisees did, and when one interprets Scripture in light of church tradition, like the RCC does, then they are the Pharisees of the day.

Contrary to what the RCC brainwashes its constituents to believe, the Bible is NOT that hard to understand.

Was Jesus wrong for getting back to Scripture as well or should He have listened to the *church fathers* (Pharisees) of His day?

If we love any thing or any one equal to or more than God - if only for a moment - then that thing or that one is for us an idol. And that could be a wife, a child, an idea, a church, self, possessions, etc.

Fer shur. And the premier idol is moi. And I am really a very disappointing god. All I do is make myself anxious.

It somehow seems relevant (piling outrage on outrage, but work with me) that May being a sort of special Mary month, our chapter of Lay Dominicans sponsored a 'Holy Hour' this PM. I just got back from it. In a "Holy Hour" the Blessed Sacrament is put where everybody can see it, and a few hymns are sung and prayers are said at the beginning and at the end. The middle 50-55 minutes are silence.

The thing is, to honor Mary, we gathered to worship her Son. Throughout the whole hour, the only Marian thing that was said was, "Blessed be the mother of God, Mary most holy."

Now since most of the time was in silence, it is possible that many were focussing on Marian Devotions. But when we joined in "set prayers" it was almost entirely God 'n Jesus 'n the Holy Spirit, and one shout out to Mary, one to Joseph, and another to "all His [God's] saints and angels."

If what they thought deviated from the plain clear meanijng of Scripture, they were wrong.

What these Holy humble people thought were plain clear meanings differs from what you call clear-you would offer a good argument if protestants agree on what is clear-sadly you don't or there would be unity with concrete teachings, not believe whatever you want pluralistic Christianity

If Mary is a go-between, why did she say “Do whatever He tells you”, and, why don’t you?

Thank you so very much for sharing your testimony, dear brother in Christ, and thank you for your encouragements!

And the premier idol is moi. And I am really a very disappointing god. All I do is make myself anxious.

LOLOL!

And truly, from our first breath we must resist the natural man in us - that which keeps insisting we are the center of the universe.

I find the stubbed toe to be a great challenge. Even as I'm hopping around on one foot, faced wrenched in pain, I keep trying to remind myself it's no big thing, I'm not the center of the universe and turn it over to God. It's a "toughie" for me. LOLOL!

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

Thank God for the time He allows us to pray, meditate and adjust our priorities!

God's Name is I AM.

Jesus said we have an advocate, the Holy Spirit. Isn’t Mary essentially saying, “don’t look to me, look to Him”?

Do you believe that the Catholic Church refers to God’s Word when making doctrinal decisions? Almost always [note - as I said above, I am not Roman Catholic], and I believe they try to do so as a conscious and sincere choice.

One of the many advantages to reading these threads is that the doctrines of the Roman Catholic church have been viewed and discussed in depth.

And those doctrines do not comport with your observations, nor with Scripture.

*Does the word of God tell men to fall down to the stock of a tree in prayer; to pray to dead people who will then act as intercessors between the supplicant and God? Or did Christ tell us specifically to address our prayers to the Triune God?

*Does the word of God instruct us to call a pastor an "alter Christus" -- "another Christ?" Or does the word of God tell us if we meet anyone who calls himself "another Christ" we are to "believe it not" because "false Christs, and false prophets" are real and seek only to deceive.

*Does the word of God tell us to pray to Mary and to view her a "mediatrix of all graces" and a "co-redemptrix" when, in fact, there is only "one mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus" who is our only Redeemer? Is it true or false that Jesus never once refers to Mary as "mother" in the New Testament, but instead calls her "woman," telling us that His family, His mother and brothers, are all those who believe in His name as Lord, God and Savior?

*Does the word of God inform us that the head of Christ's church on earth is a man who is "infallible in matters of faith and religion" or is Christ alone the head of His church on earth?

*Does the word of God tell us we are saved by our own good works and righteousness, or by the good work and righteousness of Jesus Christ on the cross, mercifully imputed to us?

*Does the word of God tell us that Scripture is the Christian's only rule of faith and practice, or are we to follow the doctrines of men and and an "infallible" magisterium?

After several years of reading exactly what Roman Catholics believe via their own posts and websites and catechism, it is more clear than ever that the church in Rome preaches another Gospel.

"For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.

Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion." -- Isaiah 41:28-29

Wouldn't that be kind of an example of being a go-between? Seriously.

No. Seriously.

Do you really need Mary to tell you to go to Jesus? Won't anyone else work?

Jesus Himself called people to Himself. Isn't that good enough for Catholics? They need Mary to tell them as well?

If they're not going to listen when Jesus calls them, why would they listen when Mary tells them what to do?

Couldn't they just follow her example without her telling them what to do?

Has the Catholic church got its adherents so brainwashed that they can't think for themselves and make their own decisions? They have to have someone do it for them?

Ping to 757. There is no "intercessor" between God and men's terrible sins but Jesus Christ who alone atones for every sin of His flock -- "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." (Hebrews 10:17)

"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. " -- 1 John 4:10

No other "intercessor;" no "co-redeemer;" no "dispensatrix of all grace."

Jesus Christ alone.
