GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

The theology in Hebrews is consistent with Paul’s and though it is copied down in a formal Greek style by some scribe, there is no reason to think another authored it.

That single church is composed of the body of believers every where for all time, not members of a specific denomination.

Congratulations, you agree with the Catholic Church.

There are other interpretations of Matt 16:18 than the one the Catholic Church uses to justify the papacy.

Yes, we are well aware that the primary focus of modern-day Protestantism is to try to minimalize what our Lord said about His Church.

And whether or not individual believers choose to recognize that one can be saved and belong to a church besides the Catholic Church, is irrelevant. The Catholic church teaches that salvation is though it alone. All it did was make a few exceptions, the major one being for those who are what they call *invincibly ignorant*.

I would venture to say that the Church should probably clarify what they teach about this, it is obvious that modern Protestants have difficulties with comprehension.

For others, like myself, they consider that I am going to hell.

Actually, they don't.

the Bible teaches that salvation is through Christ alone

The Catholic Church has NEVER taught otherwise.

So much of Biblical Critical stuff seems based on the idea that a writer never changes his “voice.” That seems dumb to moi.

So when one lights a candle on behalf of a suffering loved one here, in this sacred place, one does so in honor, in appeal to the blessed Mother of God.

This is wrong to do.

I am really sick and tired of trying to "build a bridge" between Pentacostals and Catholics.

I'm not Pentecostal, but I believe I understand what you mean. I'm not much for phony "ecumenism". If a group of people are practicing idolatry I much rather say so than worry it might not be "ecumenical" to declare we worship God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

I don't know, she did seem to have lots of ‘comrades’ at all hours of the day and night.

This has to stop, we’re getting a little too serious here.

Now back to our regularly scheduled pogrom.

Very simple -Magicians make things appear and dissipear all the time or make something look realthat not even there. Only God can produce a TRUE Miracle [...]

So were there real physical snakes on the floor or not? Nevermind...

What I had asked for is a Scriptural reference wrt your statement that the devil must submit to the laws of nature - That, it seems to me, is not going to happen.

[...] that’s why the pharisees committed unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit by attributing Christ’s miracles to the work of the devil;-The pharisees were the theoligians of their day and they knew perfectly well that ONLY God can produce a real miracle-that’s why they committed unpardonable sin

It is not the physical manifestation that points to the Spirit, but His nature:

Mar 3:22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Mar 3:23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
Mar 3:24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
Mar 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Mar 3:26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
Mar 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
Mar 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
Mar 3:30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

(e-sword: KJV)

... And by the way no is arguing against the Miracle of Moses-it was the work of God-not Moses

I know that - That is why I said:

No, it seems rather sure that God's miracle through Moses defeated the miracle performed by the minions of Satan (Pharaoh's magi), else there would be no need for the eating. One could just walk over and pass a hand through the illusion to prove it false, then and there. Contest over. src

Enjoy your defense of the devil,it’s very telling by the other comments you make

May God bless you for your concern.

Well said...

[No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.- Luke 16:13]

Mammon being things sacrificed to idols, even money.. is a cornucopia of things...
One man's idol is another man's Holy(reverenced) Thing..

All or many on this planet seek God with whatever they have to seek him with..
The Cargo Cultists are as serious as a heart attack... as are the "other" Animists..

Without the Holy Spirit to decrypt it all for you we are all swimming in Mammon Soup..
Some with "christian" flavoring.. others with Buddhist overtones.. yet others with Intellectual Hot Sauce.. with scientific croutons..

Then your popes aren’t because they specified the Roman Catholic church.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2503880/posts?page=1694#1694

And more .....

http://www.catholic.com/thisrock/1999/9907chap.asp

“A special case is the application of vincible and invincible ignorance to salvation. Failure to embrace the Christian faith (infidelity), total repudiation of the Christian faith (apostasy), and the post-baptismal obstinate denial or willful doubt of particular teachings of the Catholic faith (heresy) are objectively grave sins against the virtue of faith. Like any other grave sins, if they are committed with adequate knowledge and deliberate consent, they become mortal sins and will deprive one of salvation.”

I do not believe them to be omniscient in the way that God is,...

And yet RC's bow down, or kneel, in front of statues of Mary with the expectation that their prayers will be heard by her and receive special treatment if she so wills. This is ascribing god like powers to her.

Ex.34:17 You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.

This is what the statues of Mary are and the grotto's RC's flock to seeking her intercession on their behalf.

“The resurrected Jesus is STILL the Son of Mary. The Bible assures us that the evidence of Jesus’ time on earth is preserved in that resurrected body in that He showed the nailprints and scars. If Jesus remembers that, then He remembers His earthly mother.”

“Yo, Joe, your earthly wife asked me to remind you to pray for her.”

“Joe, not being omniscient would have little likelihood of knowing his wife’s prayer, but no one says he cannot be informed of it.”

Pastor, that is a nice sentimental view of heaven captured in many of the old time hymns and Southern Gospel songs but I don’t think it corresponds with the way scripture portrays relationships in heaven. Believers are “reborn” from above. It is not our earthly pedigree that counts. Jesus gave us a glimpse of relationships in heaven when he said:

Mat 12:48-50, “Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

or when he said to Mary and John:

Jhn 19:26-27, “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own [home].”

It is the same with the most profound of earthly relationship:

Mat 22:30, “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.”

There are no exclusive familial bonds between creative beings in heaven for Jesus occupies all of the affections.

Col 1:16-17, “ For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. “

Eph. 1:22-23, “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Honoring father and mother is a temporal command “that your days may be long upon the earth”.
