A prominent Protestant church in Maumee voted overwhelmingly yesterday to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the first in northwest Ohio following the national body's decision in August to be more welcoming to homosexuals.
Members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church voted 250-43 with one abstention - an 85 percent approval ratio - to end its affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). On the same ballot, members also voted to join the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ.
Yesterday's meeting, held in the church sanctuary, was short and civil, with just a few questions or comments that were mainly procedural in nature.
Kip Keller, congregation president, said the matter had been discussed at length during eight previous forums and there was no need to "drag it out for hours and hours and hours."
It was the 550-member church's second vote to secede, as required by the ELCA constitution.

The Rev. Roger Miller, pastor of St. Paul's since 1990, has said he considers the churchwide resolutions to be "line-in-the-sand" decisions that cannot be ignored and are evidence that the ELCA is not adhering to the Bible.
"The main thing is not the main thing anymore," he said.

When did the Church decide to abandon the laws given to man by God (The Bible), and instead decide to follow the fashions of man?
I believe that God says that he is the Alpha, and the Omega. He does not change ... so what would make people think his church should?
Or is the Church nothing but a Social Club? You can’t have it both ways. Either Homosexuality is an ‘abombination’, or it isn’t. God gave us his opinion pretty clearly, not only in verse; but in demonstration (flooded the world, and nuked Sodom and Gommorah).
I think its a great idea for the local churches to leave the denomminations over this crap.
Any Christian church with a bishop this Biblically clueless and mealy-mouthed should make a post-haste denominational exit.
Good for this group of ELCA members!
Ping!

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
During the ELCA Churchwide Assembly, last Aug., they passed a resolution that states that their churches may have openly gay pastors, only if the pastors are in committed relationships.
I agree with you. I know an ELCA member who approves of gay pastors and gay weddings. She said, “Churches should change, to conform to society.” I said, “No, society should change, to obey the Bible.” We argued for about a half-hour, and neither of us changed the mind of the other.
Sometimes those decisions make the church look more like a club than the kingdom of God," Bishop Lohrmann saidOh! The irony!
And right when the ELCA is succeeding so marvelously at burnishing its bona fides with the Bible-rejecting world.
