Saccharine sweet stories about how God loves everyone and wants us all to sing Kum By Yah completely misses the point of the true and dreadful nature of man and the need for an all controlling and transcendent Rescuer. Read the Scriptures, the story is much different than the pebble in the puddle.

Dutchboy can't you see he beauty of “The Parable of the Pebble and the Pond” is that your responses say more about you than the “The Parable of the Pebble and the Pond”.

Duchtboy we all have unique Worldviews, I am just suggesting that we should make bigger waves.

You may see yourself as a clod, or mankind as evil. But God has his views from a much better place.p>

"You may see yourself as a clod, or mankind as evil. But God has his views from a much better place."

Just pointing out that nonsense like you peddle with the puddle comports neither with the Scriptures nor reality. But, the ignorant flock to "happy" stories to make themselves feel better...until the truth settles upon them.

My Scriptures and my reality are that when the “Comforter” aka the “Holy Spirit” comes there is no nonsense, but a greater sense, take your own advice and seek the truth in the Scriptures.

"My Scriptures and my reality are that when the “Comforter” aka the “Holy Spirit” comes there is no nonsense, but a greater sense, take your own advice and seek the truth in the Scriptures."

My point precisely. You have no remarks about what the Book actually says, just more pablum peddle here about the "Comforter", the Helper limited to to those chosen by the God of Israel, not your silly fantasy.

Unfortunately, the false theology (and the false hope) you give here with your sanctimonious story teaches a universalism that is wrong and dangerous. For those given eyes to see and ears to hear, they will see and hear that this stuff is from the pit. For the rest...well, God has mercy upon those whom He has mercy and He hardens those whom He hardens.

“God has mercy upon those whom He has mercy and He hardens those whom He hardens”

My “pablum” as you put it is for babies, but the sour meat you seem to have eaten would kill the meekest and poison the strongest.

Does not the Scriptures say we should come as a child?

“The Parable of the Pebble and the Pond” is not theology as such but the truth in that, “It's not what is done to you, but how you respond to it”

Why do your eyes and ears see this truth as coming from the “pit” and not from heaven above?

Part I: Whether it would kill the meek and poison the strong is of no consequence. Whether it is true is monumental. The fact you resist this tells us part of the problem with your story.

Part II: No, the Scriptures say, those whom God draws will come to Him and will be raised up on that day. John 6. But the "everyone is welcome and will be cared for" is both errant and the worst kind of poison. Pat their heads while they fall off the cliff and see if they appreciate your buttery words.

Those of us who revere the Book will continue to say, the story is not your Reader's Digest religion but the exercise of the will of the Holy God of Israel. Sometime read the story itself instead of stories about the story. The sword is drawn, the fullness of the Gentiles is almost complete, the Lion of Judah is at the gate. Repentence is real time/space/history gift...not eastern mysticism.

My dear Brother Dutchboy my prayer is to encourge not critize , but thou protests too much.

What do the words “The Good News” of the Holy Spirit real mean to you. I will give you “Northern, Southern, Eastern, Inner and Outer mysticism.”

Your harshness, belittles the Gift, did not Christ die for ALL? Yes God calls those he chooses and those who have not been called, simply have heard.

The harshness and persecution in the World, is like the Spear plunged in the side of Christ, it pains him, but also furthers his plans for us all. Repentance is part of his plan and is for your own benefit and is born of the Holy Spirit By the Grace of God for all Men.

“Those of us who revere the Book will” will have the truth revealed by the Spirit, for we enter into his Presence in spirit

I had to copy this entire post simply to point out its similarities to open theology positions. We would expect such goofy statements from a Brian MacLaren, but at least he acknowledges that basic understandings of the Gospel no longer hold. At least he tips the boat over and tells you that universalism is what Jesus really meant. Your stuff attempts to hold on to the railing while kicking a hole in hull.

Count this as harsh as you wish, but the spear in the side of our Savior occurred in time/space history. Your concepts will never enter the realm of reality.

Ducthboy your words are filled with Orthodoxy, and you seem to use the Holy Bible and God's Law as a very pointed sword to prick others.

Even though you use that sword to goad me and my goofy statements, I am under the shield of God's Grace given through his sacrifice by his Holy Spirit.

The only holes I am kicking in the ship are those filled with men's own works and the only rail I grasp is God's Grace which is Universal, even the wicked are it's beneficiaries.

"The Parable of the Pebble and the Pond" is from my own experience of the Pebble (The Holy Spirit) and the Pond (My response to it).

I guess I am at a loss as to which of my "concepts" you find so objectionable. Our God is a Paradox and leaves it to each of us to balance our understanding of the Law and Scripture through our experience of the Holy Spirit.

God's grace is not "Universal". You have confused the general care God provides for the non-elect (the rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous) with the application of grace, which is evidenced by the implantation of faith, leading to the forgiveness of sin and clothing in righteousness of Christ. Fuzzy, spiritual words used throughout your post may impress some as kind and loving. In truth, these are candy-coated poison full of death and destruction. Their lack of clarity and accuracy is the worst form of cruelty.

The reason you are, "at a loss" is that God has not granted the opportunity to observe the error, and damage, of this faulty teaching.

In my experience God's Grace is available to ALL, Salvation is Universally available to All through Christ's death on the Cross and death's defeat in his Resurrection.

My statement ""The Parable of the Pebble and the Pond" is from my own experience of the Pebble (The Holy Spirit) and the Pond (My response to it)." may seem to be a "Fuzzy" way of saying the source(Pebble) is the Holy Spirit as "evidenced by the implantation of faith, leading to the forgiveness of sin and clothing in righteousness of Christ" and the Soul's response(Pond) which is repentance and Love of God and your fellow man. Like most parables the answer or meaning of the parable is a reflection of the hearer's own experience.

It is true that there is a Narrow Door we must all pass though, but each traveler travels his own road to it. God in his Grace gives each Soul signs along the way pointing to the Door.

Your protests about Grace not being "Universal" seems to me to be the attitude of Jonah. My NIV Bible states the Theme and Message of Jonah as follows:

"The theme that runs throughout the four chapters of the book is God's great mercy to Gentile nations through repentance. The book also depicts the larger scope of God's purpose for Israel; that she might rediscover the truth of his concern for the "whole of creation" and that she might better understand her own role in carrying out that concern"

My experience is Salvation is Christ's work and the only meaningful part I play is in it's acceptance, lest I boast of my own works and not His.

Below is a comment posted on a prevous thread which will I hope help clear up my “lack of clarity and accuracy” and explain my sense of God’s Boundless “Universalness”.

Check out the link at “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sephirot";
which offers an explaination of how God is so Universal that nothing good or evil can exists with out his Presence.

Which brings to mind my original thoughts on “”The Parable of the Pebble and the Pond” God’s gift to us.”

Meteorite Crammed with ‘Millions’ of Organic Compounds..
Discovery News ^ | Feb 15th, 2010
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2452214/posts";

Believe it or not the old Rabbis defined how it all came about in the “Kabbalah” teachings. Take a look at the concept of the “Tzimtzum” “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tzimtzum";;. Strange as it seems they believed in Eleven “Emanations” predating the eleven demenisions of string theory by thousands of years.

“ Only in the future will it be possible to understand the Tzimtzum that brought the ‘Empty Space’ into being, for we have to say of it two contradictory things... [1] the Empty Space came about through the Tzimtzum, where, as it were, He ‘limited’ His Godliness and contracted it from there, and it is as though in that place there is no Godliness... [2] the absolute truth is that Godliness must nevertheless be present there, for certainly nothing can exist without His giving it life. (Likkutei Moharan I, 64:1)
