Mormon church gives first lady volume of family history
WASHINGTON -- For the second time in less than a year, Mormon church leaders have met with a President Barack Obama family member in the White House to present a volume of history.
First lady Michelle Obama was presented with a volume of her family history Wednesday morning by Elder Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Also participating was Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.
In July, Mormon church President Thomas S. Monson joined Elder Oaks and Reid in presenting the U.S. president with his family history.
"Last year, the church compiled several volumes for President Barack Obama," Reid said. "This year, I thank Elder Oaks for sharing our faith's tradition of genealogical research with the first lady and her family.
"This documentation of their lineage will be cherished and passed on for future generations," he said. "I am honored that the church can play a part in documenting the history of the first family."

I was looking at someone’s tree and discovered that they had my brother dying in 2007. Whoever did the tree put his name instead of my mom's who died in 2007 at the age of 102. We were all listed in her obituary but I can not understand why they chose my brother instead of one of the rest of us. I understand why dates can be messed up since I have typed the wrong date when working on my tree but I have usually caught it before entering the info.
Since the deaths of my daughter in 2004 and my hubby in 2006, genealogy has kept me sane! It is hard to do though! LOL.

Not just their site, their paper records as well. When I was Mormon, I took a class in genealogy at BYU and was horrified at how sloppy their records were.
It was like the people putting the information in didn’t care as long as the ‘temple work’ was done.

I don’t know about that but my husband is always saying he wants to go by being shot at 102 by the other woman’s husband. That would be of course if I don’t shoot him first.

Haha.
So...when they sealed him, did they use a seal club or a seal harpoon?

I think they are more about getting someone whatever they do to add more names to their data base. It is very aggravating when I know these ancestors were Baptists from the early 1800’s to today. There is one site which has the minutes of a certain Baptist church in SC from about 1800-mid to late 1800’s which covers one family. It was very interesting to see how and why certain members were kicked out of church. This included some of my ancestors, too.

Thanks but I have come to terms with their deaths plus both were in so much pain for a few years before their deaths. Freepers really helped when my daughter died from Crohn’s Disease. That was the very worst thing I have ever lived through.

I Dunno!!!! I don't know what they use to seal, they just do it. ROFL.
I heard it was to enable them to take them to their own planets when they die, where they will be a GOD of that planet. Strange thinking for sure, weird.
I guess they thought since he loved the ladies, he would be very prolific in the other world. Go ask a Mormon, hehe.
Bet they won't tell you about their future planet. Only the men will have their own planet and be GOD. I can't figure out what's in that religion for the women. FOOLS.
Our's not to reason why, our's but to DO or DIE. lol

I doubt that the names of the lynch mob which killed Joseph Smith were recorded, but it would be ironic if any of them were subsequently posthumously baptized as Mormons.

"Whilst doing my own genealogical research, I discovered that the Mormons loved to inflate their numbers and make stuff up in their own records." My mother and I have found the same problems using their resources. We don't even bother using them anymore. Too many..."Where did this guy come from?? Huh???" lol

They put Obama Sr for his dad...
the thread at the time had questions of whether the mormons saw the actuall birth certificate...
For proper genealogy copies of the birth, marriage death certificates have to be used...
I havent joined ANY genealogical society without producing them...
and reputable societies do not accept mormon IGI records...
because they are not sourced or valid...
