Most churches and other houses of worship have a sign out front where they can share news and get their message out. And over the years, those messages have become increasingly eye-catching, offbeat, or controversial. Theyve inspired blogs, grabbed headlines and created tension.
Wed like to see what some of the churches, synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship in your town are saying on their signs. Are they traditional scriptural verses and mass times? Do they reach out to new recruits? Do they aim to shock?
Grab your camera and show us some signs in your town or your place of worship. Send updates as the signs change. Bonus points if you can get church leaders or members to sound off on what they think of the sign and its message. CNN will feature the best signs in a regular feature!
I get these “signs” in emails all the time. oy. The majority of them are Photoshopped.
My all-time favorite:
“Sunday worship does not mean lying in bed screaming ‘Oh my God’.”
Thanks for the idea.
While driving my child to after school activity we passed a church sign that read “Come In Joy and Hope”. I laughed and asked why are only two ladies invited to attend? What if you name is neither Joy nor Hope. About two weeks later the sign changed to “All Are Welcome”. My child thought I had something to do with the change. I just smiled.
I wish I had a camera when I say a sign at Easter that said.
He Is Risen!
Happy Easter.
To our athiest friends, good luck!
There is a long-time church in Hawaii called
Jesus Christ of the Later Day Rain
Seen recently outside a church in South Jersey, where we’ve received about 60 inches of snow this winter: “Whoever’s been praying for snow, please stop”.....
Best one I saw:
How do you like
your afterlife?
Smoking or non?
LOL. These signs are really in bad taste though.
I took that as an imperative message to all, encouraging certain activities be undertaken with a positive attitude.
Actually, they are not Photoshopped, but rather created with the Church sign Generator. You should try them, they are super fun. I have made many throughout the years, mostly to send to my friends, saying stuff like "Steve Smith, get your ass to church!", and stuff like that.
"The only thing you should put off until tomorrow is anger"
"What's missing in 'CH_RCH'"
One of the funniest I ever read was on the sign at my former church. It was NOT intended to be funny, but to inspire Christians to evangelize. It read;
“Do not be satisfied just to go to Heaven, TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU!”
