My son in law, Sam, went into the ER with severe abdominal pain the night before last; a CT scan showed a bowel obstruction, tumor, on the right side. He had surgery last night, and 5-6 inches of bowel were removed due to cancer. The doctors said there was no way to foresee this, as he is fairly young. He and my daughter have insurance to take care of the medical expenses, but they have three children under 15. After the surgery, the doctor said he was "cautiously optimistic" but the pathology reports are not due until Thursday, and at that time they'll start to work up a treatment plan.
This is a tremendous unforeseen blow to this nice young family, I'm babysitting for the grandkids while my daughter spends time at the hospital. She's strong, and so is he, their faith is in the Lord. He's Baptist, she's Catholic, they've been happily married 16 years.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
PING ME to any significant changes.
A beautiful prayer. I prayed it, joining my prayers with yours, this morning.
Quix, thank you.
Thanks to all who have PM’d me with prayers, and all who have replied on this thread.
Sam was more talkative and cheerful last night when Anne visited him. One thing we know: ALL of us, our lives, our souls, are in the loving hands of God Almighty. His will be done, Amen, alleluiah.
TRUE, TRUE, JUDITH.
Ya bringing me to tears.
I’m reminded . . . I must have been about 4 or 5 years old . . . Mother’s father was at death’s door with heart trouble.
In her rough hewn way, she grabbed me harshly by the arm and said—”COME HERE. Stand on the Bible with me.”
So, somehow the two of us perched on a big Bible
PRAYING for Papaw . . . STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD.
I bet God got a kick out of that one.
Interestingly, he survived that crisis and lived a lot of years further.
Judith, I just . . . you must have similar feelings . . . I just want to scoop your S-I-L up and hug all the pain and disease away.
I just want to grab the enemy manifesting in illness by the throat and fling him back where he came from.
I just want to stomp all over such evil that would degrade such a life and such a family treasure.
Sigh.
Oh, I was going to check on that MSRV or whatever it is . . . my book’s in my van. Next time I get up.
Anyway—at least let him know that we are praying, caring and pulling for him.
OH, THERE IS AN AUSTRALIAN MEDICINAL HONEY THAT’S BEEN PROVEN TO BE VERY POWERFUL AGAINST SUCH WASTING INFECTION STUFF. You can search it out on the net.
PRAYERS AND HUGS.
Peace and calm is the best. Try not to get overwrought, thanks. And thanks for your prayers.
TRUE. TRUE.
THX.
Prayers for your SIL and family.
Hang in there grandma!
You're thinking of Manuka Honey from New Zealand and it does in fact kill MRSA, but only on external wounds. It's unfortunately rendered useless by the digestive process, so if the infection is systemic that's not going to help. Takes 10-14 days for shipping anyway.
The next thing to look into would be Allimax, a highly purified garlic extract. I'll ping you to freeper Scythian's post from a few days ago:

He's had much experience fighting disease when the medical system shruggs their collective shoulders and says, "Sorry...."
Right.
Judith, I don’t think any of us would be offended at your ignoring our inputs.
You have to do what you feel is right, and only that, of course.
It’s just that some of us are of a bent that we like to put legs to our prayers as well as we are able.
Prayer may be the only thing we can do, but it is the most powerful thing we can do. I am joined with you in prayer for Sam and all the loved ones!
AMEN! AMEN!
THX.
Leni
I;m not ignoring anything. He’s in the hospital, under doctor’s orders. I have no say in his treatment.
On the other hand, there has been some improvement over the last 24 hours, Sam is finally getting some of his energy back, he was able to take a walk in the hall, and sit up in a chair for an hour. Still nothing by mouth, but he is feeling better—he shaved himself!
PRAISE GOD! PRAISE GOD!
Very blessed to read of the progress.
Didn’t mean to imply you were ignoring anything, just wanted you to know it would be perfectly reasonable from my perspective.
Well, here I am hoping this will be my final update. Sam is scheduled to COME HOME! next Sunday or Monday, almost everything has healed up. He has stopped using the morphine on his own, and is up walking four times a day to get his strength back, from being bed bound for several weeks. The swelling in his feet and legs is nearly completely gone, he is eating a soft diet, and he is VERY anxious to leave the hospital. The staples from his first surgery were finally taken out yesterday. The doctor plans to take out the remaining drains this coming week.
We were afraid to say anything earlier, because he has had so many setbacks, but this is solid progress. The best sign, to me, is his desire to leave the hospital! Before, when he was so sick, he was indifferent, but now he is enjoying everything, including food. He has an appetite! He will be getting a high protein diet for some time, to help him continue to heal. He’s lost a LOT of weight, more than 40 pounds, but it is as though the Easter weekend marked the beginning of spring in his recovery.
From the family, thank you ALL from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers for Sam. It was clear that he had wonderful prayer support, because at one point, the doctors had little hope, and now the change has been miraculous. Praise God, Sam is on the mend. Thank you, FReepers, thank you, and thank our Lord above all.
Judith Anne, thank you for the update! What good and happy news! I am so grateful and thank you for letting us on FR know.
The mercy of God is limitless.
Thanks for your prayers, lj. The coming home date is the 18th or 19th of April. Sam says this last week will the the longest of all of them, but that’s just because he’s feeling so much better. ;-D
Yay!!!! I am so happy.
That is terrific news!! I just checked now and saw your update.
Thank you.
