"We will serve you if you will get us free from the French."
Video at link.
Definitely double face-palm time!
Actually, not just us doing the bashing. Pat is being exactly like the "comforters" in the Book of Job. And their self-righteousness gets one of the very, very few direct rebukes from God in the entire Bible.
Job 15:
1: Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
20: The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21: A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
22: He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
23: He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24: Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25: For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
26: He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
27: Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
28: And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps. .
Job 42:7: And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath
The Book of Job is a DIRECT warning against attributing the misfortunes of others to their sins. That is the sin of Pride at its absolute worst.
I suppose you think that Israel is evil???
No more so than any other nation.
But God did issue many condemnations of Israel for idolatry that are recorded in his word. He also promised the some day he will raise them up again. I think that day is coming soon.
Right...... You holier than people really crack me up.. Let me know when God tells you the time has come..
Early reports on Indian devil worship
Similar practices prevailed among almost all the Indian tribes who inhabited the islands and the two continents of America a few centuries ago. M. Bernhard Picart's illustration 1, drawn according to the report of Peter Martyr, 2 an eye-witness, proves that the tribes of Hispaniola, now commonly called Haiti, paid homage to the Supreme Being under the name of Jocanna, and their practices show that they were devil-worshippers of the worst kind. Even the most civilised Americans, the Mexicans, had not as yet outgrown this stage of religious belief. It is true that the idea of a white God of Love and Peace was as not quite foreign to them, but the fear of the horrible Huitzilopochtli still prompted them to stain the altars of his temples with the blood of human victims.
Today it is difficult to believe, that, except in rare cases, do we find Voodoo in Haiti, strictly speaking, an act of worship. At least in the public estimation almost everything is classified as Voodoo and the very drums that were originally debarred from Voodoo by necessity if not by choice have actually come to be known by the name of Voodoo drums. Magic and even witchcraft have entered into an unholy alliance with Voodoo and the Papaloi and Mamaloi have somewhat assumed the rôle of medium if not that of witch and necromancer.
We are even told that the serpent has now been eliminated from the ritual. This may be true. We would not like to question the reliability of such an authority as Dr. Price-Mars in the matter. However, if so, the change must have been effected within the past few years, as I know from reliable witnesses that the practice was still in vogue well after the opening of the present century. In any case it seems inconsistent to have our friend Dr. Price-Mars insisting on this disappearance of the serpent from present-day Voodoo, and yet demanding that it still be classified as a religion.
Let us quote his very words: "It is inconceivable that the Dahoman traditions should disappear without leaving traces in the Haitian beliefs. There remain as survival a few touches. We remark that the fear noticed among our peasants of killing adders (a species of water boa, ungalia) is the most pronounced manifestation of this survival. If, therefore, we omit the cult of the adder on which rests the whole economy of colonial Voodoo, probably because it approaches more closely to its Dahoman connection, what remains then of the original belief? Nothing except the dance and ecstasy, both strengthened by sacrifices. May we not be permitted to point out that these three elements: the dance, the ecstasy and the sacrifice, formed or form the permanent parts
You unbelievers crack me up; you never understand anything!
You won’t need me to tell you when the time comes.
I believe in god, but I have this motto: He who cast stones tend to live in glass houses..
‘Twas you that cast the stone; hope you have lots of curtains in your house!
Bush’s fault
Natural gravitational and rotational stress moves the crust of the Earth. God could have prevented the damage, had the people of Haiti turned to him.
You just earned your PhD in Geophysical Theology! :o)
I truly believe that the people of Haiti have made themselves poor by ignoring God. He longs to help all of us.
The Chicago Heat Wave was in 1995, btw, not 1998.
God makes it rain on the just and the unjust.
There are things God does that I don't understand, and I would never presume to understand why such things happen.
i guess that having a fault go right under or through port au prince and having earthquakes before had noting to do with it.
