Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

Religious threads are no fun at times.

That might depend on one’s creativity and audaciousness! LOL.

This, to me, is very fascinating . . .

from:

http://www.traditioninaction.org/bev/048bev2-25-2004.htm#changing

Is it a pie in the sky? It doesn’t seem so. Regarding this first goal, the well-informed Cardinal Yves Congar wrote these significant words during Vatican II:
“We are still far from drawing the consequences of the rediscovery of the fact that the entire Church is one single people of God and that the faithful compose it along with the clergy. Implicitly, unwillingly, and even unconsciously, we have the idea that the Church is composed of the clergy, and that the faithful are merely their beneficiaries or clientele. This horrible conception is inscribed in so many structures and customs that it appears to be set in stone, unable to change. It is a betrayal of the truth. There is still much to be done to de-clericalize our conception of the Church.” (1)

They keep that up and they might return to much more of a semblence of a New Testament congregation.

DR.E: The choice we make is God's plan.

Ah, so you believe that God's plan is dependent on YOUR CHOICE?

So that's how you read my sentence? Backwards?

Figures.

God's plan precedes everything (Eph. 1.) Our choices follow as part of God's plan.

If that were not true, then it would be our plan and God would be going along with our plan which is what all Roman Catholics, Arminians, Pelagians and semi-Pelagians believe.

As you said yourself, salvation only occurs because we agree to it, thus making our choice to believe the deciding factor.

Which is not Scriptural. We have not chosen Him. He has chosen us and conformed us to His Son through His mercy and not debt.

His plan. His mercy. His grace. His salvation.

1) Ask Mr. Rogers for the source of quotes by Robertson. They were from his post. (Strange you didn’t know that.)

2) I’m happy to give you the link I use most often for John Calvin’s “Commentaries” and his “Institutes of the Christian Religion.” It’s http://www.ccel.org.

Here’s hoping you’ll spend some time at Christian Classics Ethereal Library. Lot’s of excellent source material.

If you need help learning how to link, I’d be happy to show you since you rarely if ever post links to anything.

I think this is kind of old hat, at least in this diocese. Maybe it was a bigger problem in Europe.

Nobody prays to the depictions of the Reformers.

Nobody kneels to the depictions of the Reformers.

Nobody asks for anything from the Reformers.

And nobody would object to a statue of Mary just like they wouldn't object to a statue of Jesus. It is the PRAYING and KNEELING and REQUESTS to the stone cold dead marble of the statues that is blaspehmy of which Rome should repent.

Mary's sacrifice is her Son, who died on that cross.

Thank you for confirming the idolatry of the papacy.

Mary did not sacrifice her son on the cross.

GOD sacrificed His Son on the cross.

This is basic Christianity and anyone who believes your comment is on dangerous ground. Repent.

Lol.

what sort of altar would YOU offer a sacrifice of praise upon . . . if not a mental one???

Amen! They seek the physical when the cross is empty, Christ is in heaven and salvation is spiritual. They need to read more Scripture about the "renewed mind."

I didn’t say they look similar. I said they look like “the same person.”

Which is what that idiotic prayer teaches - Mary saves, Mary sacrifices, Mary mediates, Mary redeems.

The RCC has taken Christ and turned Him into a woman.

It means you have FAILED yet again! The website you got that picture from is Cosepp Technology Online . The owner of the website appears to be a Catholic, but he certainly doesn't speak for the Church

Looks like you FAILED to read my comment accurately, Wagglebee. I said the picture was from a "Roman Catholic's website" and you have just agreed to that fact.

There are hundreds of variations of this picture with Mary standing on the entire planet earth with lightrays beaming from her arms. If the papacy doesn't agree with this, tell it to the thousands of Roman Catholics who believe it.

They sure didn't learn this error in a Christian church.

And somebody should report the following website and its 243,000+ visits to the See.

LADYOFALLNATIONS.ORG

So going by the statement, is it right that the OPC believes that God’s plan is dependent on YOUR CHOICE?

Murphy-O'Conner and Congar are "progressives."

The Barrack Obamas and Nancy Pelosis of the Catholic Church.

Do you have an idea of what my opinion is?

If not, let me be a little more explicit: they are (were, in the case of Congar) gay-loving socialists in cassocks.

Their ultimate goal is the utter corruption of the message of Christ: "modernizing" it and making it "more relevant" to modern society.

It was they and their ilk that Pius X warned about when he wrote Pascendi Dominici Gregis (On the Doctrine of the Modernists) back in 1907.

You say, They keep that up and they might return to much more of a semblence of a New Testament congregation.

You couldn't be more wrong in your assessment, Quix. Unless you think a NT congregation would embrace Diana and the temple prostitutes.

“When the priest announces the tremendous words of consecration, he reaches up into the heavens, brings Christ down from His throne ......

Whoa! Thanks for that. That's pretty eye-opening. I think I have asked before how it is that the priest is not ordering Jesus around, or the Holy Spirit for that matter in the case of baptism. The only answer I can remember is that it is a request that is always granted. That sure sounds like an order to me, but ......... :)
