Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

You have a very selective version of “personal.”

Altar?

It's what we call the front of the church--where the steps up to the stage plus about 12-15 feet in front of the steps (before the first row of seats), are.

It's figurative. There's no altar structure there.

It's a mental altar in our minds and hearts because it is there that we are focusing extra intently on God.

Folks--irregularly and as they individually wish . . .
stand and pray there;
stand and are prayed for with the laying on of hands there;
.
kneel there; recline against the steps there, praying;
kneel at the steps; praying;
.
lie prostrate near the steps;
lie prostrate near the first row of seats; dance between the first row of seats and steps;
.
wave flags between the first row of seats and the steps;
sit praying cross legged near the steps or the seats;

Oh, I get it . . . now some Roman Catholics et al are going to accuse those of us in my congregation of bowing down to and worshpping . . .
.
DRUM ROLL . . .
.

the carpet lint!

NICE TRY! LOL.

Interestingly, it is in that space that maybe in 80-95% of the services, the discernable, detectable, almost tangible VERY MUCH FELT--PRESENCE OF THE LORD'S ANOINTING is heaviest.

Once I have posted a warning to not make it personal, I expect the next round of comments to be on the issues.

Naw.

I couldn't properly fit all the names of the various Roman Catholic et al rabid clique members in front of it. Besides, I don't keep such a list written or even in my head. And I'd hate to leave someone out.

So, you lie prostrate in front of a "mental altar"?

Are "mental altars" scriptural?

If the language use of "altar" in your posts is figurative, how is it possible for you to reconcile that with your criticism of the "Vatican rubber dictionary"? Someone who demands LITERAL interpretation from Catholics on EVERYTHING must surely himself be LITERAL.

Come to the Presbyterian church and enjoy the intimacy that one normally experiences in a San Francisco bathhouse. Next week; wiccan Presbyterian covens naked around the bonfire under the harvest moon!!!! Get your tickets now.

Aha -- that's a link to an OPC website, hence it must be true and OPC doctrine!!

As I told you, I don’t read your technicolor gibberish.

You’re an intelligent adult and perfectly capable of posting in adult standard American English.

If you want me to read your posts, stop posting like a child.

Sounds like someone needs new glasses.

I don't see such a shadow at all.

IF there's any shadow vis a vis Mary and the Cross,

it's IMPLIED . . . and it would be

THAT THE CROSS IS

IN THE SHADOW

OF MARY'S
ARTISTICALLY EMPHASIZED

MORE UNMITIGATED BRAZEN BLASPHEMY.

If you profess to be a Christian you are an affirmed monotheist and cannot acknowledge the existence of any other gods regardless of how inferior. It is possible for Jews, Muslims, Mormons, Hindus, Unitarians, etc. to be wrong about God and mischaracterize God, but they cannot change Him or alter Him.

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more.

Maybe Roman Catholics et al don’t speak in terms of

‘an altar of the heart’

or . . . any place or mental construction where one is concecrating one’s self, some aspect of one’s life

afresh and a new

could properly be called an altar.

An altar is a place or focus of

SACRIFICE

Scripture speaks of SACRIFICE OF PRAISE to God.

I gather the Vatican rubber Bibles don’t have such Scriptures.
