I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
I think about that sometimes, most especially when my family or friends visit, and we have such a great time together...surely Christ in His life had many such moments...
Regarding ritual, I think of all the Passovers and other Jewish ritual Christ must have participated in...even His earthly foster father, and Blessed Mary took Him at the very beginning of His life to the temple...the wedding at Cana was certainly filled with ritual, as were the funerals...
Rituals bring us together at certain important times, so that we remember on a regular schedule who we are in relation to God Almighty and His Son. Our Church rituals are filled with His Holy Word, most especially at the common daily mass and the major Church celebrations. They lift us up, encourage us, and nourish our faith.
Just my 2cents.
Frothing Fingers. FROTHING FINGERS!
Beautiful, JA
You are a companion for the Journey.
Maybe they are calling them "Jesus". The alter Christuses of the Reformation.
Okay...
THERE IS, NOWEVER, quite a strong aversion and even proscription in our congregation AGAINST DOING *RELIGIOUS* stuff out of habit or ritual etc.
So "yes but no never" eh?
ROFLMTO
Just a Queen right?
I pray that the Lord God Almighty free you from all duplicity and anti-Catholic rage.
Amen
Queen of Heaven, yes.
Are you conflating “god” and “queen” now?
Why does your church have an altar?
If you're trying out your new tagline, I vote a wholehearted YES.
Notice the Soviet leitmotif in their art...godless, cold, foreboding, sinister....
Like John Calvin's little pocket deity himself.
Of a truth, I do not claim that the person depicted in the photograph of that sculpture was Mary, blessed virgin mother of the Incarnate Word, Jesus.
The rest of the sidebar dealt with why, and objections as to why, I am offended by any thing or any one being draped on the Cross in lieu of my Lord Jesus Christ as if to say he or it is equal to Him. Spiritually, I perceive that kind of art as an insult to the body and blood of Christ.
The Cross, testifying by its image the blood and body of Christ, truly is that sacred to me.
For the LORD thy God [is] a consuming fire, [even] a jealous God. Deut 4:24
Beyond that I only have two remarks pertaining to vladimir998s condemnations at post 5474:
2. To paraphrase an often used Catholic saying, I will never apologize for the Holy Spirit.
To God be the glory, not man, never man.
That old . . . what is it . . . intellectual??? . . . genetic???? theological--naw . . . psychological???
INCAPACITY to tell
THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN

So, if I go to Safeway . . . or Walmart . . . and sometimes I'm hungry for say crackers . . . say out of 20 trips to Walmart or Safeway . . . I shop for crackers 1 or 2 times . . .
that compared to Roman Catholics et al genuflicting EVERY TIME they get within 36" of an image or statue of Mary . . .
MY slavishly shopping for crackers 1 or 2 times out of 20 trips . . .
is the SAME
or EQUAL
RELIGIOUS RITUAL
to the slavishly genuflicting at virtually EVERY image or statue of Mary by a sizeable chunk of Vatican associated Believers.
GOODNESS!
And they think that the MANGLED DICTIONARY thing is unfair!?!
Boggles the mind.
it must be that primitive Calvinism they keep talking about. Hmmmm.... Interesting..... next there must be a cubism Calvin too.
As you know, I don’t read your technicolor gibberish.
Post like an intelligent adult and I will read it.
NGR invoked.
I am no perfesser, but will be glad to help if I can.
Do not make this thread “about” individual Freepers. That is also “making it personal.”
Have not and will not.
