Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me
Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience
I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

Presbyterians as well as Baptists and Pentecostals lead the world in mission work, and have for centuries.

There really are only two sides - Trinitarian Christians who believe Jesus Christ to be their Lord, Savior, Redeemer and King, and everyone else
Yes, and the Mormons and OPC also believe that and would you consider THEM Christians with their beliefs in John Smith and Machen respectively?

Machen was a saint, however
So your sub-group in the OPCult believes Machen was a saint. Which of the other sub-cults (like the BPC, APC etc.) believe he was a demi-god? Ascribing such things to a cult creator is, well, cultish.

You've been shown numerous scripture that contradict the Romanist reinterpretation I have never seen a passage from the Bible, taken in its close context, that contradicts any Catholic doctrine. Not on this thread, and not ever. I have seen opinions, exegetical constructs and mistranslations, but not plain scripture, on the level of "by works a man is justified; and not by faith only" or "God Who will render to every man according to his works", or "As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. ... Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained", or "This is my body, which is given for you".
When I see theology expressed in biblical quotes the size of a bumper sticker, and I see kilobytes of self-propelled obfuscation, I know which Church to go to.

As for taking "offense," we've learned that Roman Catholics believe any and all questioning of their doctrines to be "offensive" to them.
Nah, I've been to Rome and the Catholics in Rome would say "Non parlano inglese si buffone idiota. La tua dottrina è l'adorazione del diavolo Machen"

You do not understand the doctrine of election..
I post the version of the doctrine of election as stated by the Orthodox Presbyterians. Is yours different from that explanation?

"though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. "
Key point, you became i.e. you chose to accept that grace from God to become free from sin. That signifies the free will to chose to accept the grace that saves.

The resurrection of the dead raises the dead from the graves, yes, and you just stumbled on the prooftext for it. Live and learn.Paul says when he is absent from the body, he'll be present with the Lord...Christians go up when they die...Their dead bodies lay in the ground...
For a Christian, his dead body in a grave won't hear anything...
Your proof text just turned into corn meal mush...Live and learn...

Petronski — perhaps the good doctor is referring either to the police state run by Calvin or the OPC aim to set up a theocracy with only the OPcult views allowed (the future Cauvinist police state). They have a great example in Calvin on how to run a police state.

They were called, every one of them and had no right of refusal.
Actually, they DID. Many tried to escape, but in the end agreed. At no point did God pull their strings like a master puppeteer -- he persuaded, cajoled, even PUSHED them, but he did not treat them like puppets with no will of their own.
God preknew they would answer, but he did not predestine them to answer.

Of course, "authored by Satan" seems to mean something different to Calvinists. To wit: Satan is a tool in the hand of God..he can not act without the permission of God...
No wonder the Presbytero-Calvinists believe that God is the author of evil (through Satan). This Calvingod doesn't like doing the dirty things himself, but gets his tool to do them and then blames the tool!!
CAlvinGod's commandment is to pray to Him
I thought CalvinGod didn't give you free will to choose to pray to him, but CalvinGod makes you pray to him, so in essence CalvinGod prays to himself through his puppets

Their dead bodies lay in the ground... Well, you just saw the scripture that does not agree with this opinion of yours. Perhaps you should produce your own mistranslation, every one else already has one.
