CANTON, N.C. (October 13, 2009)—The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, N.C. will celebrate Halloween by burning Bibles that aren’t the King James Version, as well as music and books and anything else Pastor Marc Grizzard says is a satanic influence.

Among the authors whose books Grizzard plans to burn are well known ministers Rick Warren and Billy Graham because he says they have occasionally used Bibles other than the King James Version, which is the sole biblical source he considers infallible.

According to the church’s Web site, members will also burn “Satan's music such as country, rap, rock, pop, heavy metal, western, soft and easy, southern gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, soul (and) oldies.

“We will also be burning Satan's popular books written by heretics like Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, John McArthur, James Dobson, Charles Swindoll, John Piper, Chuck Colson, Tony Evans, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swagart, Mark Driskol, Franklin Graham, Bill Bright, Tim Lahaye, Paula White, T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn, Joyce Myers, Brian McLaren, Robert Schuller, Mother Teresa, The Pope, Rob Bell, Erwin McManus, Donald Miller, Shane Claiborne, Brennan Manning (and) William Young.

During the book burning, according to the Web site, barbecued chicken fried chicken and “all the sides” will be served.

With their list of heretics, it sounds like there'll be plenty of fuel for the cooking fire !

“True. Reminds me of a lot of people on FREEP. “

Yep, I’ve had ‘conversations’ with some of our ‘enlightened’ FReepers.

“...Pastor Grizzard ought to burn himself as Satan is influencing him and he is a willing dupe...”

BINGO!

So far he is burning nothing about the Mormons...

He seems to have given a pass to fiction.

I am not a KJV only person. I do like the style of the King James. Some of the newer translations (or like the Good News Bible -—reinterpretation) just don’t capture the depth of what the King James does. But I love the portions we have of the old manuscripts.

“Mormons use the King James Bible”

Only theirs came from a voice...in a hat.

Hey, if I can get people to buy my books just to burn them, that is a market I will be more than happy to service.

I’ll make up some stuff, drag it out to 150-200 pages of hocum and call it the “Devil’s Almanac” and sell it for $50 a copy. How may do you want?

I’ll even throw in a coupon good for gallon of gas with every case purchase.

Speaking of telephone songs, for the last few days I’ve had Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show’s “Sylvia’s Mother” going through my head.

>> is the koran in there? <<

Why only target other Christians, target the other Abrahamic religions / cults while you are at it.

Maybe a Torah too.

Maybe they should burn a dictionary and a set of encyclopedias as well....

From the news story. Anyone who thinks that James Dobson and Billy Graham are somehow Santanic is so far over the edge that he should be locked up. This guy does sound like Jim Jones

Our Church has a bon-fire on Reformation Day, too. We burn Bibles, too. And flags.

‘Course, the Bibles and flags are old and tattered and given up for the express purpose of proper disposal.

We wind it all up by burning a copy of the Papal Bul against Luther.

I like the King James Bible too and read from it often. The old style English is magnificent. However if you read the article by Doug Kutilek who is a Baptist carefully you will see how the abuses of people like Pastor Grizzard bring reproach to the name of Christ. People like him are causers of sedition and division. I also believe the Pastor is treading on dangerous ground as burning the Bible can be looked at by God as sacrilege.

I sure hope he’s making a good living as a whackjob pastor.

‘Cause as a web designer, he seriously sucks.

"Only theirs came from a voice...in a hat."

I prefer to use Matthew 7:16-18:

"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit."

Which church defended marriage in California and who stood by the sidelines and whistled? Which church condemns homosexuality as a sin against God, and which churchs not only condone this, but allow practicing Homosexuals to act as clergy? I could go on, but when you live in a glass house, don't throw stones.

Another power mad kook lording over a congregation who truth be known is probably a sanctimonious hypocrite secretly drinking and banging his parishoners.

I am not going to get into a theological discussion, but any Hebrew/Greek scholar will quickly state that most English translations take a lot of liberates with “God's Word”

What kind of preacher would burn any Bible?

Abortion is Murder, and the books are just books. Words are from the mouth and God listens to the heart.

I'm not judging but I will question the love, peace and compassion in their hearts by their own actions

The only part I questioned was calling him a liberal.
