40 Days for Life campaign is now under way!
40 Days for Life consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, 40 days of constant, peaceful vigil outside abortion centers and Planned Parenthood offices and 40 days of active pro-life community outreach. Here are a few of the ways you can participate:
Excitement high for this spring's 40 Days for Life campaign
At one of those events, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, spring campaign director Shawn Carney spoke to more than 1,800 faithful people who came out to remember the 50 million lives lost to abortion and to celebrate the accomplishments of 40 Days for Life locally and nationally. The entire 26-minute talk was recorded. More than 130 communities in the United States, Canada, Australia and Northern Ireland are hosting 40 Days for Life events through April 5. Please check out the complete list ... and today's devotional.
The pro-life movement is gaining momentum! At national, state and local events, large crowds have been reported at Roe v. Wade memorial events and weve been getting reports from across the country about a heightened level of enthusiasm for the current 40 Days for Life campaign.
You will be surprised what happens at that PP killing house once the prayers start!
That we may use these 40 Days for Life to plead for God's mercy and grace upon all those involved in the sin of abortion.
SCRIPTURE
Blow the trumpet in Zion! Proclaim a fast, call an assembly. Gather the people, notify the congregation. Assemble the elders; gather the children and the infants at the breast... Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say, "Spare, O Lord, your people." Joel 2:15-17
REFLECTION by David Brandao, 40 Days for Life
The toll of abortion cannot be measured. We hear estimates of almost 50 million innocent victims, but that's only one aspect of the harm that has unfolded in abortion's wake. There are also the mothers and fathers of these millions, as well as the grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins. Unborn lives destroyed. Lives of the living shattered.
It's overwhelming and depressing, but even in the midst of such unfathomable darkness, the church teaches us to have hope. Yes, it was indeed Calvary that followed Christ's 40 days in the desert, but without Calvary there would have been no Resurrection -- His victory over death that opened the gates of heaven to those who believe in and follow Him.
The psalmist encourages us to go humbly before God as we seek His will: "A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me... Give me back the joy of your salvation and a willing spirit sustain in me... O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise" (Psalm 51:12, 14, 17).
We are called to be God's messengers; or as the Apostle Paul told the Corinthians: "We are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: be reconciled to God" (2 Corinthians 5:20).
That is the true message to all we encounter at the abortion centers and in our communities who have been deceived by the Culture of Death. We don't bring condemnation; we bring God's good news.
PRAYER
Lord, we ask for the strength, courage, wisdom, determination and stamina to carry out this mission according to Your will.Guide us, we pray, as we go forth and proclaim Your truth, always doing so with a spirit of love and compassion, as was demonstrated to us by Your Son, Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.
Heard some great news today that could also use a lot of prayer petitioning.
Texas is introducing a bill into legislation that will make it Mandatory for ALL woman seeking an abortion to first have a sonogram and see the baby.
Their is a clause in it that the woman can cover her eyes and turn away but the Doctor/clinician must provide this before consenting to doing the abortion.
Huge step IMO.
I wish them well.
The picture of the man standing in front of the Costco size Planned Parenthood is creepy.
Is that an actual abortion clinic? Or the headquarters?
Yes, that would be a huge step. Many mothers to be, even if they are single, do not have the abortion after seeing the baby in the songram.
Actual picture from San Fernando, CA.
Probably is an abortion clinic.
If that is true then I would have to say that is an Abortion Factory.
How dark and evil is that!
PP places them in poorer neighborhoods too.
All supported by our tax money.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Found ya! BTTT!
Father God, hear the prayers of Your children. Lord hear our voices, united before You, coming against the Spirit of Death, the Spirit of Selfishness/ self-centeredness, the Spirit of Fear, the Spirit of Deceit, the Spirit of Greed and any of their co-horts that drive the killing machine of abortion. Lord, we declare them bound, cast under our feet, their bonds and backs broken in Jesus Mighty Name. Father open the eyes of the women and girls who drive to these places of death and cause the scales to fall from their eyes, that they may see the TRUTH, Your TRUTH, and be saved from this pit before Your precious little ones are murdered.
Father, protect Your children who are present at the Planned Parenthoods around the country, praying for the end to abortion, the end to murder, the end to the damages done to the mothers. Protect these warriors and their families during this seige, Father, from any thing in the physical, emotional or spiritual realm that would cause them harm. Bring them encouragement, boldness, discernment and forthrightness, Lord. Anoint them with Your Voice. Father God, be with the sidewalk counselors and cause their voices to be heard by the women/ girls who are about to enter these places. Lay the message heavy on their hearts, turn them from the doors of these places and bring them to find help in the places of Your hand. Lord, be with those who have already had an abortion. Father, bring laborers across their paths to sow seed, bring them to places for healing and help them to see themselves as You see them.
Hear our prayers, O Lord, now and over the coming 39 days. Hear your children, Father, and answer. IN Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
I was out today with a group of 20 people for two hours for 40 Days for Life in Dayton. It was heartbreaking to see all of the cars going in and out of the abortion clinic but in the time I was there I was able to witness at least one woman that changed her mind.
Please get involved in this grassroots effort in a community near you and pray to end abortion!
Yes, Jen, thanks for your testimony. Watch during the 40 days — the number of cars will decrease!
20 people!!!! Wow!!!
Thanks for posting the entire reflection and prayer. I am making use of it. ;-)
Mountain Flower is going to post the reflection and prayer each day. So she might start a ping list so you could read it each day!
Thanks, MF.
Do you want a separate thread each day, or continuation of this one?
You have FReepmail.
May the King of the Universe, who entered this world as a helpless infant, give us the humility to be healed.
SCRIPTURE
My power is made perfect in weakness. - 2 Corinthians 12:9
REFLECTION
The great mystery of the Humility of God is very near and dear to the mission of those serving in pro life and in a special way, post abortion ministries across this nation.
For those wounded by their participation in abortion, the door to healing often feels like crossing an abyss of great fear: fear of judgment, fear of being torn apart by the pain, by self hatred and rage at those who hurt and abandoned you, and manipulated you in your time of temptation.
For men in particular, entering the unknown waters of emotional vulnerability, so necessary to healing calls for a different kind of courage that feels deceptively like weakness.
The door to healing is humility.
It is born in the inability to no longer control the pain, to live with the consequences of that tragic decision to reject life. The hearts cries out, "I have committed a grave offense against my Creator and I am consumed by regret, grief and sorrow!"
During these forty days let us pray for all who have participated in abortion and with love call them to healing and reconciliation. With healing these women and men can become as John Paul II proclaimed in the Gospel of Life, "the most eloquent defenders of everyone's right to life."
Jesus proclaimed, "I am the Vine, you are the branches" (John 15:5). To bear the greatest fruit, the branches must be pruned. Each level of pruning of the vine requires a deeper level of humility so that we can abandon ourselves to His will.
This is not a lofty theological concept as much as it is an earthy experience of pulling weeds, tilling rocky soil, pruning and healing the vines. "If a man wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross, and begin to follow in my footsteps" (Matthew 16:24).
PRAYER
Lord, during these forty days, we ask that with each day of this sacred vigil, everything in us that separates us from your perfect will would be pruned from our hearts and souls. In this blessed freedom may we experience a powerful anointing of your Holy Spirit. Filled with confidence and trust may we proclaim with the mother of Jesus, "Let it be done to me, according to your Word."
