Religion is the problem. [Piñata for the RF]
January 19, 2009 | gpk9

Religion is the problem, just like government is the problem.

In both cases people have beliefs that don't fit reality.

In both cases people try to push their beliefs on other people.

In both cases people believe in fairytales that just aren't true. They have no factual support.

In both cases people believe "faith" should substitute for facts, like with Obama for instance, and Bush for that matter, and "going to heaven" for instance, and an "ever-burning hell" for that matter.

In both cases you can't say what you think.

In both cases you have to be "politically correct."

In both cases people are generally of poor character.

In both cases people have little or no integrity.

In both cases people have little or no honesty.

In both cases people have very thin skin, and can't take criticism.

In both cases people think they're better than everyone else.

“Thinkers” that try to identify “The Problem” in simple terms are idiots indulging in mental masturbation.

He’s one of these, “the church age has ended” folks. All organized religion is the work of the devil today. I’ve talked to these guys before.

Never argue religion.

Never blame “God” for the acts of man.

And never, ever start a thread that is potentially volatile without the appropriate safety armor.

“Interesting analysis . I’d have to say that most of the responses tend to support your arguments.”

It would appear that way.

In both cases people think they're better than everyone else.

And, of course, you are better than all of them.

Here, allow me to reduce your metaphysical dilemma to a bumper sticker, and address both you fundamental conceptual shortcoming and lack of a valid counter-response at the same time:

Religion drools. Jesus rules.

You're quite welcome.

Is this a vanity or is there a source?

It appears to be vanity based on immature resentment.

Well, well! Someone put a hefty dose of persimmon in someone's tea today, I see! Your outburst reminds me of a story often recounted by Archbishop Fulton Sheen, as recounted in the Catholic Answers website.

At a retreat for priests, one of the clerics complained loudly and publicly about the Church's wealth. He insisted the Church sell off its artworks, cash in its investments, and give the proceeds to the poor. After the session the priest came up to Sheen and repeated his remonstrances.

Sheen eyed him and asked, "How much did you steal?" "What?" said the priest, indignant. "How much did you steal?" repeated Sheen. The priest protested. Sheen asked again, "How much did you steal?" At length the priest admitted he had been taking money from the collection basket, his rationale being that, since the Church wasn't a good steward of its wealth, he could put the money to better use than the hierarchy could.

Just so! Your self-righteous protestations sound to me as if they come from eerily similar motivations. Come home! God loves you!

In the meantime, though, remember that this is the Religion Forum. Your drive-by potshots are perceived around here as incendiary. And rightly so. Do not be surprised, then, that you are being pilloried with indignant scorn on this thread. Neither should you be surprised if you continue in this vein and are simply dismissed in the future as an Internet variant of the Village Atheist: a perpetually angry crackpot fit to simply be ignored. If you won't "come home" to God, you might want to consider at least taking your verbal Molotov Cocktails and throwing them elsewhere. Nothing good can come of this sort of self-important nonsense.
