LDS Church exclusion of members access to their own records 2008
WikiLeaks ^ | September 8, 2008 | WikiLeaks - Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons)

Posted on 12/17/2008 4:58:58 PM PST by aMorePerfectUnion

This document is very brief. It is a screen shot of the LDS Church MLS program showing an individual Member Record screen with an alert box displayed with the following text and buttons:

"Members may not have copies of their membership records. Under no circumstances may membership records be given to anyone other than the bishop or a clerk. Although members may not have copies of their membership records, they are encouraged to have copies of their Individual Ordinance Sumary (IOS) for themselves and any dependent children living at home ("Church Handbook of Instructions," [2006], 145)."

'To print an IOS, please go to the Membership Records panel and click More. Then go to the Print Record Panel and click on Individual's IOS. Are you printing this record for a Bishop or Clerk? Yes (button) No (button) "

Screen Shot...

Keep from Members!

Members may not have copies of their membership records

Uh...

This is surprising - why?

There is no impending event that makes the publication urgent.

Gentile; YOU are NOT privy to the INNER workings of GOD!!

Only our Living Prophet is.

If 'technology' is used to limit access to VITAL Church Records, then I know for a FACT that the LP® and his Unanimous Yesmen will have gotten instructions from GOD to do so!

I get a copy of the membership records for everyone in my family each year to verify their accuracy.

YOU get a copy - THEY don't!

The post just quotes the LDS software itself. No more.

That's ok.

We could quote other official church documents and get the same response!

I don’t know any of the three groups who view mormonism as “spooky” as you described those supposed readers.

A #3 checking in. Put me down for heretical.

I don’t fit in any of those categories.

Ok...

Maybe when citizens start to read it, learn about it..and learn what it covers...?

"It could happen!

And the Constitution will be rescued when ?????
______

What does the US Constitution have to do with the information one provides to their church, a group one joins voluntarily?

If the rules of the club you want to join are odious, don’t join. But the US Constitution has naught to say on this topic.

I would also be 4) None of the above. A number 4 who has yet to understand the apparently morbid fascination non Mormons have with the actions of the Mormon church.

No doubt there are those.

Others just have a fascination with the morbid... Keeps the Earth in balance. And you know that is important.

As an LDS membership clerk for a ward (about 500 people) I’m constantly having members correct their records. Anyone can see their records (not someone else’s) at any time. All members are supposed to be given the “Individual Ordinance Summary” whenever changes are made to their records. Pretty much all of the information on a member’s “official” record is contained on that document (at least they look the same to me but with a different heading). It’s just personal information such as when a person was baptized or married. We have had problems with some members (like the type that takes screen shots of databases of other people’s info) taking a copy of membership records and using it to mail out things like Christmas cards or wedding invitations.

+++++++++++++++++++++

Then this is a precaution TO KEEP THE INFORMATION FROM THE WRONG PEOPLE, not a way to keep the information from the member themselves.

They mail a Christmas card to themselves?

There are three distinct groups on FR that have an interest in things mormon:

1. Current Members
2. Former Members
3. Christians

Never mind. TheDon says he can get records for other people besides himself. I thought this only dealt with your own personal record. My bad.

Anyone can see their records (not someone else’s) at any time.

SEEING is not having a COPY.

Why do some seem to have a COMPREHENSION problem?

“I’m starting to question the general sanity of Freepers as well as the accuracy of most everything on the site given that every time I’ve seen something I have personal knowledge of it’s totally off-base.”

AMPU, that's not the point. The LDS church has been teaching recently about a psychological disoder called "Shaken Faith Syndrome". The members are being told that those that question anything are mentally ill.

Just yesterday, in fact Freeper RESTORNU on another thread told me that I should lose all visitation rights to my three daughters until my "mind was healed". I was a high preist and resigned myself and my three daughters from the church a few months ago after finding that some of these "crazy" mormon prophetic quotes were true. The church rejected my right to resign my daughters, for among other things, the fact that they are over 8 years old. They claim the LDS age of accountablility supercedes my parental rights over my minor children. I have had four visits to my house since this letter by mormons, and they have asked to talk to my daughters.

Sentinel,
I am sorry to hear of your abuse at the hands of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - the mormons.

I also know you are not alone in the abuse you suffer.

If I were you, I’d hire the meanest attorney you can find, who can stand up for your parental rights. The church does not have any legal jurisdiction to decide these matters.

I would also buy a nice dog to greet them when they trespass.

As to their database, good luck. Even Catholics can’t seem to prevent them from baptizing dead Catholics - or Jews for that matter - despite their promises to the contrary.

I’ll be praying for you.

As a parent, if you attain parental rights in your state, you will have the right to decide how the kids are brought up, including their religious faith. From there, a lawsuit.
As you’ve learned, they are arrogant.
