Voting bishops [Catholic Caucus]
Curt Jester ^ | November 12, 2008 | Jeff Miller

On the Laura Ingraham show today she had Raymond Arroyo on again and they were talking about the election and the Bishop's meeting that he attended.

Laura Ingraham: Here is the problem, how many of the bishops voted for Obama.

Raymond Arroyo: ...The bishops I spoke to say that maybe half of their brother bishops if not more voted for Obama. Because they thought the symbol of Obama would overcome racism and be a great healer and unity.

This of course is total hearsay and not verifiable. If true, which I suspect it is than it certainly explains a lot. How in the world can we be surprised if 45 percent of Mass attending Catholics voted for Obama if that percentage or more of the Bishops did. Though even if this was ten or five percent it would still be scandalous.

Though to look on the bright side maybe the number of Catholic bishops voting for a pro-abortion candidate is down from previous years. The Bishops were certainly much more vocal this year with a large segment making statements on the election. Though as Raymond Arroyo also said we can't really expect the statements to make much difference when they come out just before an election and the animals have already escaped the barn with people being indoctrinated with culture of death beliefs from the time they are a child.

But I don't want to be all whinny about the bishops when some have been quite active and forceful in what should be our reaction to protecting life. American Papist covers some of the statement here.

Cardinal George's address to the USCCB was an excellent response in addressing these issues.

Though creating a true culture of life is certainly not on just the bishop's shoulders or the parish priests either, but on all of us to live the faith and to defend life.

“The bishops I spoke to say that maybe half of their brother bishops if not more voted for Obama. “

Why am I not surprised by this?

Clean Sweep; say it again, the Church like the direction of the republican party has buckled under social pressures, pandering to every group and the me first attitudes that have attacked our Nations sensibilities—they have done this in my opinion in an effort to be inclusive, pc and more palatable. Compromising values, morals and sound judgment NEVER works.Clean Sweep-the Church may be smaller but it would be stronger! A fence sitter is never a leader, take the leap and stand for what is right and people will follow-the truth stated plain and clear in undeniable.

After reading about collection money going to fund ACORN, I e-mailed an inquiry to the Diocesan Stewardship Office about it. I’ve had no response. I asked my (new) parish priest about it and he said he “didn’t know anyting about it”. Since he’s listed as part of the staff of Catholic Charities, I find that a little hard to believe, but nonetheless. I am one of the guys who helps take up the collection at Mass and, frankly, I will stop doing that unless I get some answers. And feeling as though this new pastor may not have told me the truth makes me less likely to continue at that parish at all. If I decide to go, I will be sure people know exactly why. It does not undermine my faith, though. My faith is in The Risen Lord, not the men who happen to run the Church at any given moment in time.

Agreed.

This is outrageous, although not surprising.

I think you should go to church evey Sunday because God wants you to.

Remember what happened to the Naaman the Syrian general who had leprosy? He was told by God's prophet, Elisha, to bathe in the Jordan. He said "Hell no, we've got rivers in Damascus a lot better than your little sh!!!y little piddling Jordan." Or words to that effect.

But his servant said, "If you'd been told to do something tremendously difficult, wouldn't you have done it? So why not just dip yourself in the Jordan like the man said?"

He did, and he was cleansed.

The first thing, see, is getting over yourself.

I know this from experience.

You don't have to give them money, but you do have to give God yourself. By being there. Or finding some other parish that doesn't make you angry,

Just my two cents worth.

Many Catholics equate supporting the death penalty with supporting abortion. I don't get it since one is the taking of a very few lives of convicted murderers and one is the taking of tens of millions of innocent lives. I think that they just use this as an excuse to soothe their consciences when what they really want to support is the "social justice" (aka socialism) policies of the left.

Ted Turner made a multi-part series about the cold war a few years ago. It contained the comparison "They had the gulag; we had Kent State." I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't being shown in our schools brainwashing America's youth into thinking that we are an evil country....infuriating

People are not symbols. That’s the first part of the problem with their thinking. I also think that played a part in a lot of people’s thinking.

If it makes you feel any better, I think it will be a long long time, if ever, that the bishop now Archbishop in question discovers a red hat in his Christmas stocking. I came to that conclusion after the Mass held at Nationals Stadium.

No problem. I think maybe most are from John Paul II or earlier. Lots of people will tell you the state of the bishops is a generational problem however—Older US bishops tend to be more libtarded than younger US bishops. Also that what most of the folks took from Vatican II (rightly or wrongly) strenthened the position of bishops in regards to the hierarchy at the same time these libtarded bishops were so numerous.

Their reasons are totally irrational. Now, they will suffer the consequences of that decision.

Hardly news. My guess is that a large percentage voted for John Kerry in 2004, even though he was a symbol of nothing.

But by and large this is the same group of bishops who presided over the pederast priest disaster, who if my perception is not wrong, think of the Church’s mission as auxilary to the welfare-state.

**The bishops I spoke to say that maybe half of their brother bishops if not more voted for Obama. Because they thought the symbol of Obama would overcome racism and be a great healer and unity.**

"The walls of hell are lined with the skulls of bishops."
Saint John of the Cross

"The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops."

Attributed to St. Athanasius, St. John Chrysostom, and St. John Eudes. Probably all three said it, but I like to give credit to Athanasius because he was the earliest.
