Why so many LDS threads?
08-May-2008 | Grig

Posted on 05/08/2008 5:04:47 PM PDT by Grig

I am posting this on behalf of many LDS freepers. They will post their own 'signature' to this in the comments below. --- Some of you have noticed lately a lot of LDS (ie: Mormon) threads here on FR. I'm going to tell you why.

For many years there have been several active LDS freepers here. We post to all the forums on relevant issues, and were happy to have a site where conservative values were so openly welcomed.

Those conservative values include faith in God, and freedom of religion. We fully respect the rights of all posters to express their opinions and views on religious matters, even when people choose to use those rights to express criticism of our own faith. We also support the ideas embodied in FR rules against religion bashing. There is no need for hostility and there should be no room for bigotry on FR. Every religion has it's miracles and mysteries. Every faith has things in it that are not or can not be proven, and things that run contrary to what secular science would have us believe. Someone mature and confident in their own faith generally doesn't feel the need to belittle the faith of others.

We have, to the best of our ability, conducted ourselves with civility and dignity. We do not feel that that respect has been returned by some posters (putting it mildly).

When Mormon missionaries were murdered, the moderators were kept busy pulling jubilant posts off the thread. When Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her home, we contended for months with posters who appeared to be motivated by religious bigotry doing all they could to smear the family and accuse the father. Several posters openly admitted their religious motivation in opposing Mitt Romney and confessed that no matter how conservative any Mormon was, they would never vote for one for President of the USA. When the Pope died, I don't think any Mormon poster posted anything unkind, yet the thread about the passing of our President recently needed many comments removed.

Nearly every thread having any connection with Mormons, or Utah winds up being hijacked by anti-Mormon activists who copy and paste the same false accusations over and over even when it has been clearly and factually pointed out to them on multiple occasions that they are bearing false witness against our faith. Everything possible is done by these activists to make FR a hostile place for Mormons, and for at least some of them, bashing Mormonism is all they do here. Their most recent project is trying to blur the fact that the polygamous FLDS is a separate and distinct religion from ours, just as Lutherans are a separate and distinct religion from Catholicism.

In our opinion, such poster do a great disservice to FR and to their fellow freepers by spreading disinformation and promoting hostility towards a people known for walking the walk of conservative values.

Why the moderators here don't see the behavior of these anti-Mormon activists as religion bashing is a mystery to us, but it is the moderators call to make and we respect their right to do so. That doesn't mean we have to be passive however. We have all spent many hours refuting the accusations leveled at our faith, but these wind up buried deep in a flood of comments, effectively shouting us down.

Recently some of us have decided to take a more proactive approach. Rather than try to wrestle the pig into taking a bath, we are just going to hose it down. We will actively define our faith here rather than just respond to accusations.

So expect to see lots of Mormon threads, now and for as long as we see fit to keep posting them (although probably not as many as there are Catholic threads). They will be about our basic doctrines and responses to common accusations. If you want to know what our faith is about, read the articles we post. We will post them as open threads and I encourage you to compare the difference in tone and spirit between what we post and what our critics say.

The Nicene Creed is an ecumenical statement of faith. It is not new and different doctrine, and is not ‘Thus saith the LORD’ in any way made to add or delete doctrine of the Word of God -so your point is without merit or foundation.

Jesus is the Last Word from God: There is no prophet in that sense, after Jesus, for God has nothing more to say to anyone in this present creation. Any prophet who speaks in the Church of God who adds to or takes away from what is already written as the Witnesses of Christ wrote them for us, as to new revelations, is under the curse of having his name blotted out of the Book of Life.

Hebrews 1
God’s Supreme Revelation
(cf. John 1:1-4)
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person

The Book of Revelation closes the eschatology teachings of God to mankind. Revelation shows the last things being performed whcih were promised to come, by Enoch, and the setting up of the kingdom of God on earth. Enoch and Revelation complement each other. The one is written before the incarnation of YHWH as Kinsman to Adam. The other shows the coming day of the taking to Himself His great power and ruling over His ransomed kingdom and restoring all things.

Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

Enoch 1 1:

[Chapter 1]

1 The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be 2 living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. And he took up his parable and said -Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is 3 for to come. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them:

The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling,
4 And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai,
[And appear from His camp]
And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of heavens.

5 And all shall be smitten with fear
And the Watchers shall quake,
And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth.
6 And the high mountains shall be shaken,

And the high hills shall be made low,
And shall melt like wax before the flame
7 And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder,
And all that is upon the earth shall perish,
And there shall be a judgement upon all (men).

8 But with the righteous He will make peace.
And will protect the elect,
And mercy shall be upon them.
And they shall all belong to God,
And they shall be prospered,
And they shall all be blessed.
And He will help them all,
And light shall appear unto them,
And He will make peace with them’.
9 And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
To execute judgement upon all,
And to destroy all the ungodly:
And to convict all flesh
Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

Mormons believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.... which is 'translated' PERFECTLY!

SOMEone must have learned that drivel from the knee of a MORMON teacher, because the JST didn't say IT was translated wrong.

The Bible seems to witness and clarify these things better than man.

So it seems!

TRUTH IGNORED

Smith, Young, Taylor, Pratt, Snow, Kimbal,l Woodruff ...

 1 Timothy 3:2-3
 2.  Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
 3.  not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Timothy 3:12
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.

 Titus 1:6
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

BEHOLD!!!!  The Restorative Power  of the Book of Mormon!!

THE BOOK OF JACOB
THE BROTHER OF NEPHI
CHAPTER 2

24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
  27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

Annoying never accomplishes it’s purpose, unless the purpose is to annoy, aggragate, and turn people off from your argument.

You have hit it!

I tend to REALLY annoy LDS members when they CANNOT answer the question.

If it gets rubbed in their faces too much; too bad; it's NOT my 'testimony' that suffers because of it.

And your claim is to want to persuade, not alienate.

Sorry; but they are all ready alienated... from GOD!

Job 40

1. The LORD said to Job:
2. "Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!"

It is not MY organization that has said that GOD cannot keep HIS word complete!

It is not MY church that says the gospel of the BIBLE is in need of restoration!

It is not MY GOD that says HE'll save me; after all I can do!

Anti's place Logic above revelation.

Christians place what the BIBLE has already said, over Joseph Smith's sputterings.

I already told you another, for which I had no direct link, just anecdotal evidence based on first-hand accounts from blog entries, and a report that one denomination had clarified it’s policy to no longer accept it (one which I thought was accepting — the United Methodists).

I could try to find that link, but as I said, the link says they decided to issue a denomination-wide edict to require re-baptism of Mormons. I didn’t know that had happened.

You can keep asking for links, but I already told you everything, and that I don’t have links. I won’t address it further. I didn’t offer it in any refutation of someone who claimed that no denomination accepted mormons, it was a general discussion of what was required to be saved, and we got off into denominational issues, and I was speaking from memory in that regard.

The only link I could find was the Unitarians, which is hardly surprising. I found 5 that rejected, and a few for which I could find no information one way or another.

I can’t give you links that I can’t find, and my assumption is that there could well be none anymore other than the unitarians, although in order to avoid the OTHER side pestering me over a side issue, I can’t provide links to prove that no other denomination accept Mormons.

I know that my denomination does not.

In my opinion, a conservative political forum should not have as one of it’s purposes proselytising, or antagonizing conservatives of a different religion.

Now, maybe the LDS folks have been doing this for years, and I simply NEVER noticed it at all until I saw the LDS getting trashed. I hadn’t been paying attention until Romney ran for President.

But even if they are, there are ample freepers attacking them for it.

And so long as the moderators allow you to continue, I will assume that the purpose of this board IS partly to drive a large conservative population away from the political fight.

At least some others have a noble purpose of trying to save the lost.

Fine opinion, that is moot when certain groups, religions, or cults defy you.

Once that happens, it is "Game On" - and you are either a participant, or a spectator.

The Mormons that show up at your door in their white shirts and out of date ties will attempt to pursued. Fine with me.

Any group that wants to try and convince others of its legitimacy is allowed under the First Amendment, and even here on FR (a Private website supported by member contributions) - open debate is what we are all about.

God (the Real One) gave us Christians a teaching before He went back to heaven.

Matthew 28: 16-20

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

So that is what motivates Christians. Mormons are motivated by Joseph Smith.

I must ask Charles (and if you answered this on previous threads I apologize) - are you a Christian?

Thanks.
