FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

Well, I guess you dont want to see your PMs to me, so be it...to what purpose?..You said I PM’d you first, unsolicited....posting your two PMs to me, would show that to be incorrect...I could very easily copy them, and put them into another PM to you, but because you did not read my only other PM to you, I do not know whether or not you would read this one either...well, so be it...

I would agree that your first PM to me was an accident, which is what I was trying to relay to you in my one and only PM to you, which you said you deleted without reading...

I have heard Murray, answer questions that were directed towards asking him, if he was supportive of these racist groups, and he has always answered in the negative...he has always stated on his TV program, that for one race to think it was superior to another race, was just plain stupid, and also was not supported by the Bible...

I cannot say, I ever heard Murray, say anything promoting racist Identity movements...but he has been on TV for many, many years, so I dont know all what he has said in the past...

Today he is quite an older man, with very white hair...but sometimes, in our area, they would once in a while run some very old reruns of his program, where he was quite a bit younger, with dark brown hair...

I think he has been on TV and on the radio and short wave, and for something like 20 years or so, tho I could be wrong about that...I just seem to remmember him speaking of this timeframe...

Goodness knows, I have heard next to nothing of the bulk of his programming...so what he may have said in the past, is something I have no idea about...

And since they discontinued him in our area(DISH network, always seems to be fiddling with programming), I dont expect he will be back on in our area...no great loss for me, as I have said all along, he was of an ‘interest’ more than anything else, and hardly important in the grand scheme of the things in my own life..

There are always plenty of other TV preachers on the airwaves to view....

“Really? I’ve only casually listened to some of his responses to questions about the bible and had not noticed that - I would have turned a preacher off in a heart beat if I heard him promoting “racist Christian Identity movement.”

I have never heard him preach, I had never heard of him until last night but there does seem to be a huge amount of claims that his teachings coincide with Identity beliefs.

Interracial marriage as a sin seems to be one of those teachings, I have been looking for a site where he answers specific questions but I haven’t found one yet.

When I was growing up, YOU cannot imagine the horrible comments I heard from Mormons about Black people and the "N" word was not only used regularly, it was used almost exclusively every time a Mormon would refer to a black person.

Many people can't imagine the horrible comments about Blacks and American Indians in Mormon Scripture

And it came to pass that I beheld, after they had dwindled in unbelief they [American Indians] became a dark and loathsome, and a filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations – Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 12:23).

At the time the devil was cast out of heaven, there were some spirits that did not know who had authority, whether God or the devil. They consequently did not take a very active part on either side, but rather thought the devil had been abused, . . . These spirits were not considered bad enough to be cast down to hell, and never have bodies; neither were they considered worthy of an honourable body on this earth: . . . But those spirits in heaven that rather lent an influence to the devil, thinking he had a little the best right to govern, but did not take a very active part any way were required to come into the world and take bodies in the accursed lineage of Canaan; and hence the Negro or African race. – Speech of Elder Orson Hyde, delivered before the High Priests' Quorum, in Nauvoo, April 27, 1845, printed by John Taylor, p. 30)

Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so. – President Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, 10:110, March 8, 1863).

For some reason, I have found lds.org to be a little less than completely forthcoming about the matter.

I recommend you check out these sites for a more complete discussion of the topic of racial bigotry and the Mormon Church:

Mormon Racism

An online book -- well organized and well researched -- containing an in-depth analysis of the issue plus hundreds of supporting citations.

It makes more sense and seems it would be easier.

I don't see anything in there about "personal family was races." So.......who's "the white man who belongs to the chosen seed"? In that sentence, it appears the "seed of Cain" is referring to the African race. BTW, this came from a prophet. And he said "this will always be so." So, was he wrong? The Scriptures say that true prophets are 100% right 100% of the time.

Probably from former mormons who spent countless years in mormonism through multiple generations family backgrounds. Kinda people who would know things first hand.
